Dylan Linkner chat/Thursday practice notes
April 17th, 2008 by Stephen TsaiThanks again to wideout Dylan Linkner, a proud Kailua High graduate and Kailua resident, who served as chat guest today.
* * *
Here are some notes from today's practice:
• Two NFL scouts are in town to evaluate next season's UH seniors. Linebackers Adam Leonard and Solomon Elimimian, and cornerback Ryan Mouton are drawing the most buzz. The scouts work for a national service, so their information will be shared with the rest of the NFL teams.
* * *
• Laupepa Letuli apparently is done for spring ball after aggravating a pulled left hamstring. He suffered the original injury a month ago when he was running the 40-yard sprint. Letuli aggravated the injury during Wednesday's practice. He was expected to compete for the starting job at left tackle.
• Running back Camron Carmona skipped his second consecutive practice because of back spasms.
• Left slotback Mike Washington said he tweaked his left hamstring. Jon Medeiros replaced Washington as the No. 1 left slotback.
• Quarterbacks Inoke Funaki and Tyler Graunke continue to improve in receiving snaps from under center. The technique now allows both quarterbacks to successful run bootlegs. Both were effective on bootlegs and play-action plays today.
• Graduate assistant Brian Kajiyama is in charge of overseeing the workouts by kicker Dan Kelly and long-snapper Jake Ingram. Did we mention that Lucas Ingram, Jake's younger but taller brother, will be joining the Warriors as a walk-on this coming season?
* * *
Good thoughts and prayers have been helpful. Robert Kekaula's son has improved greatly from injuries suffered in an accident. Greg McMackin and June Jones have called frequently to offer their support and best wishes.

Hi Dylan!
ST: only able to get here through the RSS feed link. All other paths are blocked by the questionnaire to nowhere.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Aloha.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:24 am
So Dylan, are you feeling comfortable with the snaps coming from under center as opposed to from the shotgun and the timing it takes for you to get into position?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Liz,
Clear your browser cache and delete your cookies.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Dylan, do you notice any particulars in the way each of the QB's read and get the ball to you?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:25 am
April 17th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Scott- thanks. that worked. I will go back to the other blog to see if others can get through now.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:28 am
at first the timing was different from what we were use to from shotgun. it's a little faster coming underneath the center, but i think we all got comfertable with it after the first week of spring ball.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Aloha Dylan,
Don't worry more people will start answering questions once they are able to pass the questionaire thing to get into here. I had to try several times.
Anyway,
Do you guys, as receivers, feel as if the past few practices where taking snaps under center have been productive for the QB's, the WR's, the o-line, or just the entire offensive unit as a whole?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:29 am
Welcome, Dylan, to Tsaiko-Town.
I've been following your time and perserverance at UH for some time. I admire your staying power.
Question: Do you think that this season, the coaching staff shows more fairness in regards to playing time?
Best wishes for your future.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:31 am
yes, not every qb is the same. and of course some qb's have more experience here in this system so their reads are a little more quicker than the newer qb's. also, i dont know if all the wr noticed (im sure they did) but kiran is a left handed qb so sometimes to us it seems different when he delivers the ball, not in a bad way, but just cause he's a lefty.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Dylan,
What is your opinion on this years offensive sceems and plays? Do you see a great offense in the making?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Dylan,
When are you graduating and what are your plans for your future?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Dylan- we will be there to cheer you on- on the 26th!
Do you think that the great chemistry Colt had with the fab 4 last year will be something you will strive for or are you taking a different route?
From coach's comments, it sounds like the offense this year will take on a more scientific rather than intuitive approach.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:34 am
Dylan,
Do you think that we will end up with eight receivers who will play and could start ?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:36 am
i think it has been productive for the whole offense because it it something new that is brought to the table and when you have something that is different it kind of bring the team together more because they all want to accomplish the "new" task. but for the most part i think taking snaps under the center helps out the o-line and rb the most. the rb's will have more time to see the holes develop and the o-line will have d-ends not cheat up field any more making it easier to block.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Dylan (you don't have to answer all my questions-just don't want to leave you twiddling your thumbs while the rest of us are trying to get here), how does the receiving corps as a whole feel from your perspective?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:37 am
Dylan hows ur Dad Jim .....is he still doing recording engineering......good luck in this coming season........hope u make first team.....know Coach Ron & Cal from the Outrigger Showroom back in the day.....Ten Que for sharing your Aloha today.....!!!!!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Dylan,
What is your take on the O-Line? From what you see, is it coming together nicely?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Hi Dylan,
thank you for taking our questions. Without getting you into trouble, can you provide observation from a receiver's perspective on the two co-number 1 QB's?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Dylan,
From this also proud Kailua resident, thank you for your hard work & perserverance!
How did you keep yourself motivated all these years?
Really looking forward to the scrimmage on Sat & the Ohana Festival next weekend!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:40 am
first of thanks for following and being a loyal warriors fan. and to your question, i think it's always pretty much been fair with what was being ran position wise here, but the difference now is that when coach jones was here, he liked to stay with the first 4, with coach lee and mack, they want fresh legs out on the field at all times, so therefore they look deeper into the depth chart, giving more guys a chance to see some PT.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Dylan,
Congrats for getting into the rotation. Thanks for being the hard working patient guy you are, we all look forward to seeing you on the field more.
My question is this: How do you like the emphasis on the running game? Do you think it will help win more games?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Dylan,
Give me the truth, does the team truly believe that you guys can beat the Gators? We do !!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Programming note: Dylan's father is Keali‘i Reichel's recording engineer.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:43 am
as of right now my plans are to grad in the fall, right after the season is over. Since im graduating with a COM. major i would love to get into some type of marketing or public relations field with the NFL, but if not i would love to do sportscasting, sports is life!!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Dylan,
What is your favorite route to run and why?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Is the reading of the defense for a receiver that much harder than the previous Offense?
I'm figuring that due to the difficulty of reading the defense to know what route to run coupled by that fact that the quarterback has to read the same thing, will make it very difficult for the JC's that are coming in the fall.
OH and All Hail to the Blue and to the White...Hail Hail Kailua HIGH
April 17th, 2008 at 10:45 am
Dylan,
When you break free and see the safety coming in front of you would you rather juke or engage?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:47 am
well we cant deny that they had great chemistry last year and of course i hope that this year we will develop our own chemistry with what every qb ends up getting the job, but it will most likely be the qb and the fab 6 or 8 since there will a lot of rotation this year at wr. hopefully that answers ur other question FlordiaTed
April 17th, 2008 at 10:48 am
My understanding is that the offense will have fewer plays but each play wih have more options for the receivers depending on the coverage. How well are the receivers and quarterbacks learning the addtional route options?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:49 am
"the fab 6 or 8 "
YEAH! That's the spirit!
ok. gotta go back to work now that the chat room is starting to fill up.
GO WARRIORS!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Dylan,
Do you setup a DB for a pre-determinded deep route to be run later in a game and how do you do that if you do?
Mahalo
Go Warriors!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Dylan,
Taking a trip back in time...
Did you decide that you wanted to play ball for UH while still in high school or were you approached by a coach afterwards?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:51 am
thank you so much, and yes he's still doing music and loving it.
by the way everyone stephen is behind me eating his musubi and slacking on the blog today. i dont think he got enough sleep last night. haha, just joke stephen!!
April 17th, 2008 at 10:53 am
i think they are doing great and are coming along well. coach b (brian) has really done a good job stepping in as o-line coach.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:54 am
Dylan,
I had the opportunity to meet your dad at practice last season. He was a really cool guy. How much influence has he had on your sports career?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Dylan,
When I was at practice I heard Coach Stutzmann call for a "90-switch" or a "switch play" to that affect.
Is this play a basic one in the run and shoot as I remember Coach Jones using it before.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:56 am
from what i believe the general feeling is that both qb's are doing really well and are making the decision for the coaches difficult to decide who should be number 1. all the receivers i think believe that both qb's are great
April 17th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Hey Dylan:
I enjoy your play during your years at Kailua HS. Wishing you much success this year.
Could you compare and contrast two great Warrior QB's in Tim Chang and Colt Brennan. Physically, command of the offense, and the tangible stuff that sets them apart other QB's.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:59 am
what kept me most motivated was my education, i came to college for a degree most importantly. then, lucky enough i made the coaches happy in the summer time of 2004 and they invited me to join football. also, during the "bad" times, i didnt want to quit because i knew that they were only going to be even more good time ahead of me. plus, giving up on something you love just isnt for me. i love football.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:02 am
i like it and yes i do believe it will help us win football games. it will also open up the field for the passing game as well. perfect example, during the washington game last year when we were down and couldnt seem to do much in the beginning, we tried running to just try and get something going. i believe daniel libre sprang two big runs that got us into scoring position and most importantly, got us some momentum.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:04 am
yes we do believe we can, and if they dont believe, then they shouldnt even be playing. cuase u can never win with that kind of attitude
April 17th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Howzit Dylan -
Thanks for joining us this morning...
Is there a difference in the mood/attitude of the team with Mack the Head Coach than with JJ??
April 17th, 2008 at 11:06 am
thats a hard one. there are so many i like, but probably a route we call a switch route. i say that because i feel if u run it correctly, no matter what, u will be open!!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:10 am
it not harder than the last offense, its the same but it can be difficult if the person is not familiar with coverages. it was a big learning experience for me coming from kailua when we just had set route and did need to worry about coverages. but up here reading coverages is everything in our offense.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:10 am
The techies speak with fork-tongue. I forgot - perhaps six times today!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:13 am
lol, thats a good one. thinking about it now, from my past experience i think i've tried to juke to try get more yeards and maybe score. but i consider myself a more of a physical receiver and i would like it more to engage. but who knows, depends on the situaton.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Dylan,
Thanks for your great answers, You are a fine young man and will do well whatever you decide to endeavor in. All the best for your future. Make sure you convey our love for the team, there is an abundance of it on this blog.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:15 am
sorry, as far as i know we are still running the same stuff and we've been doing the same stuff in practice. nothing taken out or added. just little adjustment on a few things
April 17th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Good Morning
Where's wildwahine....that's right she can't get into the site,too.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:17 am
The situation differences are if the safety is the size of Esme or Pride. Not too difficult choice what to do.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:18 am
we have route that are pre-determined and route that we do based on what the db is doing. we might run something and see that the db is cheating on a certain read and we'll talk on the sideline about and say, the next time we run it, look at the other route that might be open because of the db's guess on where the ball is going.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:22 am
well like i said i wanted to get into a college first then worry about football. but after my senior year at kialua i never did get any help from my coach because they was a scandal that happened at the school and he was occupied with that, so i contacted UH myself and told them about me, sent in my table, worked out in the summer with them, and thank god they asked to come to football camp.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:25 am
well he doesnt care if i play sports or not, he just supports me in everyway he can. so as for influence? i dunno if thats the right word, but i'd say both him and my mom have played a big supportive role in my life with sports. LOVE U MOM AND DAD!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:26 am
yes this is one of the many great plays i believe coach mouse davis created.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Dylan, not sure how much more time you have so I'll try to ask this:
I have to know...
HOW YOU ENJOYING THAT BLING?!?!?!?
Have you worn the ring since you got it or do you plan to wear it for special team functions?
Mahalo for your time with us and go get yourself another ring!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:30 am
(Just a statement)
RE: 90-switch.
Dylan, no doubt. I always use it in NCAA 2008, but I think the game calls it a "PA READ" or another variation is "Wheelie Smash".
April 17th, 2008 at 11:32 am
well to start off timmy was physically way bigger than colt. timmy's body frame was naturally big. as from what i saw, i believe colt had more command on the field, as when timmy was there i felt like chad ownes had more command on the field, chad had a strong presence about him. i really cant say much about timmy except from what i saw he was a great qb, just cuase when i was there when he was they i was on the other side of the field doing scout and i didnt really hangout with him much because he was busy with his newborn that he had his last year there. just a side note, he named his son dylan too, but he told me they spelled his name different.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:36 am
yes, there is a change in mood/attitude this year with mack than with jj. we have become more disciplined and at the same time have more fun. yes its weird, but its true. i guess we are all excited about the new start.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Interesting insights. Again best wishes for the upcoming season. Tell your pops I'll be waiting more of his awesome recordings.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:40 am
OH YEAH, of course i wear that thing, it's unbelievable what we did last season and i wear that thing with pride. i usually only wear it for special occations or if im dressed up!! but there are somedays where i just throw it on because it looks so beautiful. lol
April 17th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Dylan,
I find it hard to believe that your dad doesn't really care if you play or not. When I talked to him at practice he seemed like a very down to earth guy AND a very proud Papa!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:47 am
well thank you everyone for joining me this morning and hopefully i answered all your questions. i hope to see you all up in flordia and if your not going to make i know you all will be cheering us on from your living rooms, favorite bar, etc. Stephen is happy i did my own typing, and he quoted, especially since princess leila quit on us. We opening up with the gators on the 30th of august and i hope to have a nice birthday present from that game since my birthday is on the 29th. support hawaiian music, cook rice not ice, and if you every come down to kailua enjoy our wonderful beaches. alohas
April 17th, 2008 at 11:57 am

GO WARRIORS!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Thanks, Dylan and thanks Tsai-Meister and crew for another great chat. Who's next?
April 17th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
What a nice, pleasant young man! Dylan, you will go far in life. Good luck and best wishes!
April 17th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Wow, what a class act. Just can't help but be proud of our Warriors. These chats really allows me to connect to the players on a different level, especially when game time comes around - even more motivation to cheer!
Setting up these chats is very much appreciated. Thank you, ST, Princess, and all the behind-the-scenes guys! Who's next....................
April 17th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
"Cook rice not ice"...
Nice!
April 17th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Dylan,
I'm an old man that's very local, so please understand my words are of the highest praise and respect for you...Brada, you one good boy.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Comments from the earlier blog today.
Is there any legal option to get the "balanced budget" bonus back from HF? It would appear that "creative accounting" occurred to balance it.
Hope that JD will insure that Colt is reimbursed for his airfare expense.
Sugar Bowl- please explain why Georgia got $17 mil and UH only $4.3 mil? Is the payout different if you represent a BCS conference? Why?
Stretch - re your #45 post. I learned a long time ago that as a "staff member" you have a responsibility to make recommendations/voice your opinion( for or against )
,but once the decision is made, I had 2 choices: suppport it 100% or resign.
"Happy faces" - Mrs A-House wants to know how she can make the symbol in her posts.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Thanks for the great chat, Dylan!
Now, I have a "Duhhhh..." question:
Scott -- why is the HA server setting cookies and serving files that need to be deleted/cleared in order for the next page to work?".
Rather than make everyone go through these gyrations--just FIX of REPLACE the server software. Cannot fix, then replace. (this is not aimed at you personally Scott, but sometimes executive management can't see the forest from the trees....
April 17th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I did not understand a word of Scott's message to Liz. What is a browser cache and what are cookies and how does one clear or delete them????
April 17th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
I use Wordpress for my blog and have never had problems with it. So why is the HA having trouble with Wordpress?
April 17th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
regarding this web design, why not aim it personally at those responsible? Why be pretentious? People are locked out,and if they don't know how to bypass the questionnaire then they become angry. And it's those people that I care for.And not the web designers, who are in their 20th day of this mess. Like someone else said-:They speak with a fork tongue ..and I'm beginning to agree.
I know venting here, obviously, has no results. So I'll look at leaving a message with the owners of the HA, Gannet..
April 17th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Stephen, I don't think any of the players have been reimbursed for their airfare yet.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
I missed another great chat...
gigi - I suggest that you read some books that teaches you the basics of web design, history of the internet, browsers, and open source software.

Finally met LOA! He isn't just a name on the blog but a person I would recognize in a dark alley!
Loa - If it wasn't for Princess Leila I wonder if you would have walked right past me, d1shima, sjmacro and myki??? Thanks for making it down to practice. So what did you think? Did the boy's look big and fast? Heun is the real deal. The "D" is the real deal. The rb's look very good. Pilares looks like he is adjusting well and I see him making huge gains from short passes. The qb's looked good too!
Maybe we can hook up again next week on Kazz's day off...

Wow! I posted 2 comments and they didn't show up!
April 17th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
EFan:
As I understand it, some players no longer on the team have been reimbursed.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Here's the dealio:
If you have a complaint — locked out, type is too small, etc. — then e-mail site designer Andreas Arvman at: aarvman@honoluluadvertiser.com.
Maybe you'll have more success than me.
By the way, I'm no longer taking the fall for this. I already apologized once. Now you're free to swing away.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
ST mentioned some injuries. I'd also like to add that due to forearm strikes to the upper torso area 3 practice dummies got carted off the field.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
And, homey, the worst part is the blue practice dummies were in the shotgun.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
let's see if this works for me.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
yay! mahalo for the tutorial, Liz
April 17th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Homey,
So you are good for next week's Thursday practice and then Camellia's afterwards? I think I may have missed your e-mail.
Right now we are looking at approx 6-8 people joining in.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
ST - I believe you apologized more than once. I emailed aarvman and at least he did respond back to me and acknowledged what some of the problems are.
Hopefully, a majority if not all, of the problems will be corrected and then the neighborhood can live in peaceful harmony...
April 17th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Kazz - If not the practice then Camellia's for 90% sure! How can I pass up large servings of squid, beef, and chicken.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
OK, ST, I entered Arvman's email addy into my email address book.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
I know some people who would make good blue practice dummies.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
gigi - What would you email to aarvman? I thought everything works good for you.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Good afternoon, All.
Thankfully the rain held up and didn't grace us with its presence this morning.
Nice meeting Loa. Man, what an intuitive sense the guy has. With me, myki and sj-macro all there in a group with homey, Loa nailed it in recognizing homey on the first crack! The "tip-off" must have been cause homey was the only one standing up and we were all the SAME HEIGHT!
April 17th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Oh, forgot a shout out to Princess Leila. She made a gloomy voggy sky much brighter!
Chawan, was that lame?
April 17th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
April 17th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
why can't we have the old site back?
April 17th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
OL looked MUCH better today than last Saturday.
Funaki looked more comfortable going thru his progressions.
Glad we only had one "kicker" on the field today.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
OH OH, and another shout out to Pete Robinson, father of Kate and Sarah Robinson. Thanks for all your help and generosity yesterday!
April 17th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Echo praises for Dylan Linkner. Quality young man.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Had a nice time at breakfast after practice.
)
Thanks to those in attendance (you know who you are
April 17th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
homey,
re: 103.
Another reason why it "pays" to be a Tsaiko, eh?
April 17th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
K, I couldn't get through the survey either..."error on page". I don't want to delete cookies from my PC!
Good luck, Dylan, on getting more PT!
IMUA WARRIORS!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Homey, my only gripe is being "locked out" -- I sometimes can't proceed beyond Go on the survey.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
d1shima - ...and it didn't help that the ones sitting down were still taller than me! If the practice was packed with people he would have never found me.
April 17th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
homey,
Hope the DVD plays for you.
VROOOMMM!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
gigi - I may have been locked up but have never been locked out.
d1shima - Yep, about the "pay". Now I have more beer money!

Homey, the way I finally get into the chat room is by patiently waiting for "them" to let me enter. Every 10 minutes, I would click on comments til I was allowed in.
Go figger!

OK, homey, I printed your advice and will follow it the next time I am denied access.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
I have a question.
Why is it that the most common injury that our Warriors have are Pulled hamstrings?
Is it the weather?
Lack of stretching before and after working out?
Is it their weight training regime?
Strength and Conditioning Coach?
Please advise.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Who's tossing their cookies?

Uh-oh. :blushing:

April 17th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
D1,
Clueless to what Mrs lv has planned for tonite.
However last night was Tonkatsu, Daikon suri with Ponzu and Daikon/Tofu miso shiru.
The Mrs cooked up 6 large katsus of which I ate 4 last night with half a pot of rice and 3 bowls of the miso soup.
Lunch today was the lone remaining katsu and Nagatani-En ochazuke nori.
Happiness is truly a (overly) full belly.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

yes, that could fall under the lame category, although i think it doesn't have the same effect unless it comes from me...

Stephen: Please tell all these people to do the following:
Clear their cache, including their cookies, then relaunch their browser.
If they are still having problems, let us know.
Thanks,

April 17th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Typically, one can attribute "self-sustained" injuries to dehydration, lack of proper conditioning, etc... and then there are factors like pre-existing injuries.
I'm not suggesting that either of these could be the case for our guys but of course like Homey said, football is football and almost no one goes unscathed following a practice period/camp.
But as ST mentioned before, several people have already been injured most likely as a result of wet turf conditions.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
btw,
who's showing up at practice on saturday? i have no clue what you all look like except for midori7 & uhfan808 since they have been so nice with baseball tickets.
i'll be hanging around with the sportshawaii folks, so if you see a bunch of guys in sportshawaii.com shirts, i'll be one of them.
i promised to introduce myself to stephen, if he's not busy interviewing players or coaches.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
To whom it may concern,
I am STILL experiencing the problem with the questionare, even though I have encountered it, cleared my cache and entered the blog 5 times previously. HOW MANY TIMES WILL I HAVE TO DO THIS??!! HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO FIX IT??!!
Thank you.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
RK,
If you are reading this, my aloha and prayers go out to your son. May he have a seepy and complete recovery.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
excuse me, that should read "speedy" above, not seepy.
April 17th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

April 17th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
I've been reading this blog since it's beginning. Never had anything to share, so I never posted. However, I was just curious if anyone else out there is using a blackberry to view the blog? I was able to access the blog earlier in the morning, but now when i use my BB, it says I'm banned
I've already sent out an email to the address that was posted above. I miss the old site.. oh well.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Sigh...I gave Sandee more credit than that...maybe her statement is out of context.
BOTTOM LINE: Why do the clients/customers (regardless of platform or browser) have to go through these steps when it is the buggy server software causing the problems?
I hope I don't hear this is all somehow all our fault because something must be wrong with all our computers, platform, browsers, internet connections, network, CPU orientation. to magnetic north, etc... but remember, you heard it here first...
April 17th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
ST - I also echo SteveM's #152 comment. We don't see other websites advising their users to clear their cache and delete cookies.
The only reason I see for doing what Sandee is requesting is that there are different versions of fixes in the Advertiser software and the saved cookies and cached files contain older versions of "fixes" and thus confuses the browsers. Okay, I just made that up but older versions of saved temporary files and cookies can cause problems.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
I hope those scouts that are in town also take notice of a few defensive line players.

April 17th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
chawan - you can call it lame or lameness but in my opinion what you bring to the blog is not lame. Many thanks for your insights and especially for your youtube videos! Oftentimes, I end up watching them more than once and it's not because of Liz Chun.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Mav,
Virginia Hinshaw made it to "Da Hale" last night.
Unfortunately I missed half of her segment.
Oh, and no "Pop's Poetry".... or "Kimo Leahi"..
April 17th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Why not Homey?
April 17th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
homey,
well, i think everyone knows the real reason why i'm lame.
hopefully not the videos and stuff.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Maverick,
UH Manoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw was the special guest. A few items she discussed included the Sugar Bowl payout and the $$$ JJ still owes the University.
You can watch a rebroadcast on Sunday @ 4:30 p.m.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Chawan,
NONE of your videos are lame.
In fact it's a great video "scrapbook". My favorite ones are the compliatons of the news broadcasts following our WAC Championship clincher.
BUT you have this one video on there with a really LAME music video they played before the Washington game. It was real cheesy bad 80's rock being played in 2007 with poor lyrics. I don't know who put that video together but yeah.... wow...
April 17th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
I share in all of your frustrations.
I've had three simple requests. 1) Put a link to the blog under the Sports icon on the main page. 2) Redirect those who go to the old blog to the new blog. 3) Drop my title as "author" and call me host because all of the readers are "authors."
I've shared this with Andreas Arvman, the site's designer: and two of his workers. I've been assured the changes would be made ... TWO weeks ago. Nothing. So I don't know what else to do or say.
I feel if somebody is going to impose drastic changes, they should be available to address the problems. Or at least be compassionate, because we're asking readers — our customers — to make adjustments.
Anyway, that's the dealio. I'm at a loss for what else to do.
April 17th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Hey gang...just wanted to say hi. Been sooooo busy, haven't been able to say anything for a couple of days now.....HOpe all is well
April 17th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Hey - the front page is less cluttered and easier to navigate.
Great blogs w/ the Gwen Nakamura and the student athletes. Really fine people representing UH and Hawaii!
April 17th, 2008 at 4:26 pm

ARRGH! Questionnaire pops up again when I tried to enter the blog through the sports/warriorbeat/blog path.
I sent a message to feedback as instructed.
April 17th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
ST
Andreas Arvman.
The brother has to get his own brand new computer, leave it home and try hooking up to Warrior Beat about 15-60 minutes after you change to a new post. Today, the info at the end of your comment section was wrong, said 44 posts but there were actiually over 100. Alll i could get to was yesterday's chat a little after 1pm, and people were still posting there even though i now know the chat was on.
The truth is I love coming here and these little problems are not insurmountable because I love coming here. i know that the other posters here love our Warriors, are a part of Warrior Nation, and I can handle. But this is a pain because sometimes I am on the run.
ralvic,
 reel mad!!!! flew home to make da blog, an no can blog. breathe, bradda, breathe.
i wuz mad
chawan_cut,
i going get da stink eye. i like meet you too. thanks for the great videos.
i going be wearing my black autearoa vynl pullover, shorts, white hair, major muscles toned by years of ingestive activity, and probably hanging by sjmacro and myki and a 40 year old coach from Hilo.
Garrett,
love your posts, and when i'm not interested, i just fly by . say hi to uncle.

Hiya Liz! ❀
Richard Ambo's photo of Kenny Estes is a great action photo. There's no jitter or shakiness due to the photographer or the the action of the subject - not like some videos of thunder & lightening!
Don't "hog" the microphone on Saturday!
April 17th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Al,
Sorry, I just got out of a meeting....long one. Now it's food prep at KSM.
Hope the Boss likes the goodies....

ok, time to head home.
Happy dindin time!
April 17th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
How come Esme's HawaiiMoms.com website is so nicely designed with pink highlights on a greenish background? There are photo's and nicely organized/working links, calendars, ads. There are noticeable differences from "other" plain, spartan, cold, and often dysfunctional, neglected websites we (also) care about and visit. Oh - there's also no lame "About the Author" section cluttering the site.
Hey - did the WB freeze-up on just me, or for everyone? I noticed that all of the other "featured blogs" were also broken - but not Esme's HawaiiMoms.com! She must be special!
April 17th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
shaky Liz - too much caffeine! Some people "black out". Liz - "white outs!"
April 17th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Mahalo for your Replies Kazz & HawaiianBod. Would of enjoyed listening to Chancellor Hinshaw speak.
No poetry corner, eh?
The last one was worth noting, and even had Inoke smiling.
Man, what a great quest lineup Pops & Kainoa are getting.
NO NEED watch late night t.v. with "What's their names" that have quests and music.
April 17th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Mav,
I local "Late Night with______" type show is a good idea, BUT gotta have F-U-N-N-Y writers.
But then they have to adhere to certain critera of material and cannot go too far of course.
Friends of mine are currently trying to put together a skit comedy show on Olelo right now and from what I was told about their stuff, they would probably be placed very late at night on Olelo.
From Sam The Man to making fun of local MMA fighters, no one will be safe!
April 17th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Seems the techies screwed up and do not know how to fix it, or do not see it as screw up.
If they do not know how to fix it there are alternatives: (1) call a local high school web class, (2) contact any one of the numerous Tsai-ko's who are at the very least computer literate, or (3) switch back to the old format [at least it worked].
If they do not see it as screwed up: (1) perhaps they do not live in the real world, (2) this is how they see the world, (3) they took lessons from hermie in dealing with problems [ignore it or let someone else deal with it].
April 17th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
BTW,
Anyone know who won "Greatest Hawaii Sports Highlight" for L&L?
I hope Dan Kelly won, even though Tes Whitlock's BYU buzzer-beater will forever be a hard one to beat in terms of straight up excitement.
April 17th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Check out that Richard Ando photo of Kenny Estes in today's photos. It's photo #8. I don't want to post the URL as it's ... super long. It's a great action photo of Kenny Estes leaping for a reception. In the background is Coach Mel showing off his "guns". Oh - there's some other guy there - trying to strike the same pose. Funny....
April 17th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Mr. Tsai . . .
I have been struggling with Sandee's comment of, "Tell all these people . . ."
Sounds like a directive. And, while technically we are all people she could have worded it softer. How about, "Please ask your readers . . ."
I am sure Sandee is a nice woman who has nothing but the best interests of the staff and loyal readers as her primary concern while at work. But, the strange feeling I get is one of exasperation and disgust.
Please correct me if I am incorrect.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
wafan:
I'm sure they're all frustrated because I keep forwarding our readers' comments to them.
Oh, well.
In this matter, I'm just going to be the messenger. What you guys say, I forward. What they say, I forward, too.
I don't understand the whole thing, anyway. All I care about are my three simple requests.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
I want you to know we're on a hill. I'm short, but I'm not Esme-short.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Wow, that was a really nice chat. What a class act Dylan is, he and all the others that have joined us.
Glad to hear that Robert's son is doing better. I was wondering what was going on there. I'll continue to pray for his recovery.
Hey, I just found out — after having three nieces, I'm finally going to have a nephew. Thank goodness.
Here's a link to an ESPN.com list of the Top 50 NFL Draft day busts:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft08/news/story?id=3325687
Hmm, let me go through the list and see which ones I recall criticizing on draft day. Um, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Curtis Enis, Cade McNown, Akili Smith, and Maurice Clarett. Then again, I loved Charles Rogers, Peter Warrick, and Jonathan Sullivan. Well, can't get everything right.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
That should be Johnathan Sullivan. I thought there was an H in there.
Hey, where's Robert Gallery on that list. There's a pick I was really wrong on.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Kazz,
Michael Mamea's homerun in the LLWS beat out Dan.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
I'd still go with Tes Whitlock's shot at the buzzer.
It was a great play.
BYU's Russell Larsen tries to drive. Phil Handy steals the ball, then lofts a long lead pass. Whitlock chases it down and, in one motion, launches a one-handed, semi-hook shot that touches nothin' but net.
It received an ESPY nomination.
April 17th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Hooray--the blog is kinda working again... Need to make an announcement:
Mrs. Bulla (our April 19 Karaoke ring-mistress and emcee) and Bulla are staging a recon mission to check out the equipment operation at Krazy Karaoke (Young Street) at 2000 tonight. Peaches and I are suiting up for the drop. Call is out for volunteer backup teams...
April 17th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I still like Robert Lan's "to the house" fumble recovery best.

D1,
I thought it was funny that on the L&L radio show they had to use an old Sears TV commercial sound-byte to rehash the moment on the air....

ST,
When does the Nike contract expire?
I need to set a date to figure out when I will start to hit the Rainbowtique hard for the new Under Armour uniforms and other stuff.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
My wife Taffy's famous Samoan food is featured today through Saturday at the Samoan Festival at Keehi Lagoon from early morning to late afternoon. Today she sold Oka (raw fish in coconut milk w/cucumbers, onions, lemon, etc), a heavy plate lunch with lamb Curry, grill fresh fish, rice (& oka), Koko Alaisa, and her buddy Emma selling Fa'ausi Talo (Emma is Fonoti's Mom from Kahuku and the San Diego Chargers). You can find them in a blue tent on the left side as you enter Keehi Lagoon Park with a sign Fa'ausi Talo on the front. Tsaikos are welcome to hang out, eat, and practice their tunes for the big Karaoke Call. Admittance and parking is free, lots of cultural stuff, Oka $5, Koko Alaisa $2, and the heavy plate with Oka, $10. We expect Pride to stop by to order 50 plates for his guys, and Brashton Satele's father to feed half the Wariors for lunch Saturday.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Now I know why the Dallas Morning News NFL "expert" does not have Colt listed in his top 10 lists of QB prospects for the draft. He has Colt at #13! He seems to have Colt's height (he's closer to 6' 2.5" than 6' 2") and weight (he weighs more than 207 now) wrong too.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Looks like the Big 12 teams who have to travel far to non-BCS bowls actually lose money on the bowl game.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
I'm sure everybody has their favorite moment, but I would say I can think of four or five who all deserve equal billing and leave room for hour long discussions..
The Kick - A whole season in the balance.
LLWC Homerun - Chickenskin.
Tes Witlock - Wonderfully unexpected against a 'hated' rival..
The fumble recovery - pulling out an improbable win.
I'm sure there are plenty more favorites, but I can't choose, I like them all.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

Some discussion of the WAC here.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
One of my favorite UH football moments was the 50 yd extra point against BYU. It was just salt in the wound.
I wonder if the excessive celebration penalties being assessed on the kickoff instead of the PAT was a result of games like the BYU game.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
OOPS, just got caught downstream from Garrets info river, Lol, just joking Garret. Love your stuff,

Draft analysis by USA Today.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
South Florida Sun-Sentinel analyzes the QBs in the draft. He has Colt #12 for QBs.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
This parody of a mock draft takes a shot at Colt.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
FloridaTed,
I'm done with the links now. Those were all of the articles that Google found, except for the one Mock Draft that was clearly not serious (Mike Tyson drafted?).
April 17th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I don't get why people don't like this year's QB crop. I LOVE this year's crop. There's nobody that's a Peyton Manning, but there are a bunch of guys from 1 to 12 that could develop into an NFL starter with the right tutelage and coaching. I'm not saying they will all be great, but the potential is there. Anyone who wants a QB this year should get a good one — the question is when.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
After three clearing attempts, and a three hour nap, finally I got rid of the survey.
I guess somebody likes me.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Thank God for homey's tutorial on how to clear caches and delete cookies. I finally got rid of the survey and was able to get into the comment section without trouble.
That survey was useless anyway as many of us were providing false answers!
April 17th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
I'm curious as to what goes on when you see this survey. I've never had to go through the trouble that all of you go through. I guess that means I'm special.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Hiya!
Well, imho, still the greatest single game I have ever seen in any sport was the 2005 Little League World Series game. But my favorite part of the game came before Mamea's HR. It was the linebacker stare in the eyes of Vonn Fe'ao as he pitched Curacao into submission.
I have never seen a better example of channeled fury.
Now, there might be a new #1 some the Swamp.
I am focusing my energy through the Warriors to erase all memories and references to their last loss by annihilating the Gators in their own house.
THAT will be the ONE!
and the start of another perfect season.
GO WARRIORS!!!
April 17th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

April 17th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Hi Esme!
I have a livingroom full of teenage boys watching AliG in da House and reviving Magik Card games...

47 hours to the K-Call!
April 17th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Liz, Esme,
I've had tons of fun watching these kids play in the LLWC. That was inspiring and exactly how the game is supposed to be played. A great example of never giving up and pure passion. I stood up and cheered watching these kids.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Liz, haha, in my house sometimes it's the grownup boy watching AliG.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:48 pm

What voice do you sing - and what kind of music do you like?
I like movie and Broadway stuff the best.

I can count on two fingers the number of times I've had "cookies" issues in nearly 13 years of being online. As browsers go, Firefox is more than pro-active when it comes to ad-ware and other malicious attempts to interfere with my net-surfing. Of course I consider all forms of pop-up ads, surveys, etc. as malicious, LOL. So is this ZAG survey the result of the HA wanting everything on its site to be revenue-generating? that seems to be classic "not out of the box" thinking.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
OK, you know the drill: I'm in. I'm gone. Gotta go tuck in the keiki. Thanks for the momentary stress relief, Tsaikos. Back later ... maybe.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Hi Liz,
Looking forward to seeing and hearing you this Saturday. Will you be here in time to watch the team practice? You'll really enjoy the intensity of the team. Your Kauai young men are doing quite well. sj keeps trying to catch them on camera but with all the trouble with the blog he hasn't uploaded todays pictures.
Maybe he'll feel inclined to do so a little later this evening. See you soon!!

Liz, I remember the Vonn Fe’ao look! Hoo! Braddah could melt steel with that glare.
Heh-heh. I think Vonn was part of the St. Louis secondary that gave up that winning TD to my Leilehua Mules in the state title game. But the kid was saying even back when they won the LLWS that he'd rather play football. Not that I want to pick fight with any of the St. Louis alums/backers on this site. Does town still hate country and vice-versa?
April 17th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Hi Myki1- actually, sj put up a very nice slideshow of the practice with the Kauai guys earlier!
I get in around 6:15 pm Sat. I was supposed to arrive earlier but, ahem, it was on an Aloha flt. Sorry to ,miss practice... but it all worked out as I have Man of La Mancha practice in the morning and afternoon. My role is miniscule - basically to just hit the high notes in two songs. So the director asked me to shoot some publicity shots during rehearsal. That will keep me busy
April 17th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Liz, what time is the last flt from Oahu to Kauai? Will you be staying overnight with Claudia?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Liz, with all that singing during the day you will be primed for the evening. Not that you need any practice for the K-call.
Do you have a ride from the airport??
April 17th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
bulla,
Mom is safely back in Philly, thanks for asking. She had a wonderful time and loved the entire staff at the hotel. Great people with genuine aloha, they made her feel like royalty. Sweety ordered some special stuff to make Lynnie's lil gift and we were happy she liked it so much. I'm glad you liked your "present", and while we broke the gall bladder kapu, we tried to keep it lght for you.

April 17th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Hi DPK! Great news about your ohana!
Myki1 and gigi- actually, SteveM and Peaches are picking me up. Accommodations are still in the works.
I don't leave til Sun. afternoon so there is a lot of opportunity to hang out - as long as I have time to fill up my cooler with fuud from Palama Supermarket on the way to the airport
April 17th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Nice try. Fe'ao is a d4mn fine running back. But it's OK, Mules win 2 in 25 years so take every oppy to mention it.

Gigi,
Not veered away; just dissipated.
Drier air now, yeh?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
D1, not sure it's drier, but kind of cool. am wearing a sweater right now. Overcast all day. After seeing Liz's video of the lightening, I rushed to the bank to make a deposit before the rain came -- but no rain! haha

I've just read 10+ articles on the slipup (or calculated ruse) by the Dolphins GM about the top draft pick. I'll post just a few articles that summarizes what happened...if this was not on purpose, it shows that this guy needs practice dealing with the media.

Buried in this article, and not mentioned in the other 10+ articles, is the Q&A about Reagan. Not much of an answer but it sure doesn't seem positive...especially when they already signed a FB that was promised a shot at Reagan's starting job and are looking to sign or draft another FB.

Even though the high school student had turned 18, North Carolina laws do not allows for ANY age of consent in a teacher-student encounter. I wonder if professors in North Carolina will have to worry now?

d1 and gigi- I really like Carol Welsman - a Canadian singer/songwriter and friend of Diana Krall.
My fave is "Hold Me" - but I cannot find it online to share with you.

Didn't know Diana Krall is Canadian. And she is such a talented pianist, too.

Michael Buble is also Canadian! I finally finished listening to his 3 CDs so I gave them to hubby to listen to in his car. Will definitely buy Krall's.

Good Evening
Looking at Warrior football spring training,I was,at first,
wondering why there is so much intensity at the practices. Is this different from years passed? It seems like there is so much of a rivalry with the offense going up against the defense that I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this? Even little scuffles, thrash talking and stare downs are common place.
It seems that maybe pass successes bred a higher intensity to do well in Spring football.Clearly it's understandable that the players may have an extra hop in their steps. After all they're defending WAC champs and just returned from the spotlight of a Sugar Bowl game.Or is it because the players are auditioning for jobs that they're playing and practicing like there's no tomorrow.Even for some players getting noticed and hopefully getting an invite back to Fall practice is a goal.
After the third practice the team was off and running with controlled hitting and 7 on 7 drills. And I like this approach.I liken the idea of the first team offense going against the first team defense.Practicing against the best players in practice in my opinion makes the players and teams better in the fall.
And once the season starts I wonder if changing from conventional thinking and I having the first team offense practicing against the first defense team wouldn't be such a bad idea. What I'm striving at is that I hope the intensity of the Spring Practices carries over in the Fall. And instead of the offense and defense practicing against the scout teams, and lower tier players, practicing against each other might bring out the beastly killer instincts in the players.Sure I know we have to watch out not hurting each other. But I also think being too complacent in practices doesn't bring out the best play in the players.
Remembering how the team practiced for Georgia, mostly watching the team in touch football mode I didn't think brings out a higher intensity in the players. And it showed in the Sugar Bowl game.Even the announcer commented on the 15 missed tackles.I thought watching their practices was too laid back.So seeing how the Spring football is progressing,
and reading that there is some good popping, blocking and hitting going on is a real fine start for the Warrior team and coach Mack.Understandably, one can see that how Spring ball is shaping up-teaching the X's and O's and developing the intensity and discipline is all relative. This really great.
To all the Warrior fans and Tsaikos that attend practice and give a cheer to the players, and highlight their practice sessions with videos and write ups and good words it's very inspirational to the players.Having the fans that we have gives the players the motivation and incentives to do one extra repetition or running as hard and fast as they can.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
ralvic,
Agree wicchu. Much more poppin' and 'tude on the field now. Maybe it's because Mack said that all positions are up for grabs?
It's a good thing....

Gigi/Liz,
Since you like fuud and now I know gigi likes jazz...
Try Michael Franks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrtQ6c3uUkI
April 17th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
IDK about that. You practice against the scout team because you need to practice your gameplan against what the opposing team will give you. Sure, we can put our 1st team defense against our 1st team offense, but that won't prepare the defense for Tim Tebow and Florida's spread. Right now, you can put the best vs. the best because you're not worried about what the other side is doing, just what you are supposed to be doing.
I don't think there will be a drop-off in intensity, though. There seems to be an air of confidence on the Mānoa campus now. The Warriors got to taste what excellence is like; now they have to get back in the fight for another bite. I don't think they are forgetting anytime soon what that felt like. At least, they better not.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
ralvic- one of my neighborhood keed heroes is Jordon Dizon.
This award banquet tribute by his coaches says it all to me. I hope that our Warriors approach this year the way Jordon approached his whole college career at Colorado.

The scout team I don't think can simulate the Florida defense as better as the first team defense. I think having our offensive linemen practicing against the fastest, quickest defensive linemen would better prepare them for game conditions.

Perhaps I've missed the announcement in the days since Nawlins, but it's pretty plain that you're the new Rotary President. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think congratulation are in order for our incredibly multi-talented and spiritually impressive Tsaiko from Kauai.

ST ~ I was gone most of the day doing my doctorial thing with Pops, but upon return this afternoon...I was frustrated for about 45 minutes trying to climb back in the saddle.
I felt like strapping on the explosives and walking into the new HA building here in Kapolei, to pay a little visit to whomsoever is reponsible for screwing up our blog. Then, I realized I needed names, I want names ST...give me the names of all those who even thought about changing our cozy little playhouse!
Breathing and respiration begining to slow down. Wiping the nervous perspiration from my brow. Putting weapon on safety. Taking explosive harness off....whew that was close. ST I can't promise that I will be able to control the rage of my PTSD tendancy the next time I get locked out!
BHF2 - Help me stay calm brah. I can't take this much longer.

As far as intensity in, I don't think JJ was a big fan of full contact in practice. Apparently, McMackin is, so the players are more feisty. That's a good thing, though, because I think this team can surpise next year, but they have to gel quickly. The intensity will help that. Further, if you want to win at the Swamp, you gotta be rolling hard now. These guys are...

April 17th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Kekoa,
FYI, gigi is not directing you to "cashing in" nor "tossing your cookies"
Jus thought I wuld clarify dat.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
d1, I never did figure out what cookies are -- other than the ones you eat.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
gigi,
If you would relieve yourself of your self-imposed limit of one six-pack per weekend, it would become pretty evident at some point what the "cookies" are.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
i am here! you bet, it was worth your seventh effort to trek upcountry. she popped those butter rolls in the oven and inhaled 5 of em.
meanwhile i sat in the corner with the donut on a stick and for dessert i had my all time favorite long johns!
i am dieting from tomw.
mahalo plenty!
btw i thought it was your better half at the gate but i didn't have time to ask her. the boy looks like her right?
April 17th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
hey, I don't drink 6 beers per weekend. I drink 3. I'm a dunce when it comes to computer jargon. Oh well, if it doesn't affect my typing, I really don't care what cookies are.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Whoa!!
(I'm on Ukuboi's account - he's downloading some hugemongous game file)
I'm the president-elect of the West Kauai Rotary Club. That means i will be taking office as of July 1. All this stuff I'm going to nowadays is preparation and training and networking.
I am inviting all of you to my "change of gavel" which will probably be (pending reservation confirmation) installation which will be June 28.
Let me say- our club is small, diverse, and most of the members are of the EIS type. We have a dinner meeting on Tuesdays at the Waimea Plantation Cottages and several of the peeps like to hang out and test a few after the meetings.
You all know I am a tea-totaler/designated driver type - ergo the "diversity"
Anyway, Rotary events are often fancy dinner things but our club is very down-home, wessai style. My installation will be a potluck barbecue at the pavilion at Kukuiolono Golf Course in Kalaheo around noon.
Before that, we will have a fun golf tournament starting 8ish - teams, best ball, so everyone can have fun and no be shame that they play golf once a year like me.
Kukuiolono is a lovely 9 hole course that is very inexpensive - less than $20 with a cart. The ground is hard so don't be thinking about divots and do be thinking about long rolls!
A good time can be had by all - the FFFF's without the football.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Al, you mean you didn't buy any Krispy Kremes??? I always buy those on the way to Kahului airport.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
gigi,
"tossing your cookies" has nothing to do with computers....unless you happen to be sitting in front of one when it "comes up"
April 17th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
June 28? That is my 28th wedding anniversary!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
ralvic: d1shima and the others already said it. You can't have the offense prep not only for their gameplan, but also to simulate Florida's spread. Same thing with our defense. Besides, there are some really good athletes on the scout team, it's not like the talent level is a major drop-off. Some of those guys are transfers that have to sit out, or young guys that are redshirting, or guys that are just stuck behind a group of talented starters and immediate backups.
gigi: Info on cookies.

Gigi ~ I just bought Girls Scout cookies outside the store. I wasn't about to delete them!
Seriously, I did dump my ie cache, as AOL used to require it quite often, along with your historicals. It's just so backasswards to have to operate a site like they do.
It's criminal to refer to your readers as"these people!" and treat loyal participants as yesterday's news.

My pick for all-time most electrifying, most spectacular sport's moment in UH history is: Chad Owens' 100 yard kickoff return against BYU in 2001.The skill to accomplice this feat is so hard, yet in 2001 Chad had 6 special team touchdowns. But the sport's moments that gets me on the edge of the seat screaming and yelling...and tearing ...and the opposite of happiness...and being upset and angry was the time the wahine volley ball team was up 2-0 against Florida and on the verge of an final four appearance...and lose three in a row.I forgot the year and the players on the team but it stands out to me as being the saddest moment. Come to think of it-am I thinking that this is the same Florida we're playing in the first game.
But I agree, too, that there are many great sport's moments. For my mother she is not much of a sport's fan.But through out my life time very few times has she shown any emotion, except when the Ewa Beach team won the Little League W.S. She's really a stoneface kind of person, not much for laughing or talking(sort of like me)so for her to cheer was a cherish able moment.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
gigi- you and Mr gigi should plan to celebrate your anny on Kauai and join us!
Hi Kekoa! Pls give Pops and Diana a hug from me. Your house bustin at the seams with relatives still??

April 17th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
i've had my fill of krispy kreme's. i'll eat emif they are hot off the rack.
d1 you are thinking of komoda store/bakery. known for its one of kind pastries in particular donut on a stick, cream puffs, long johns, and rolls. okay, i am naming them all.
i like the maui style poke myself. ah fook's and takamiya. the salt style with real limu and kukui nut. however, many of the ma and pa stores are closing down in maui. ie noda's, ooka's, kitada's etc.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Yes Liz, but I'm trying to figure a way to make arrangements for you. Problem is, not so much a logistical one, there really is plenty of room. It's the access to the property late on the night of the K-call.

Liz ~ Diana and I are feeling guilty about having to leave Pops with a nurse. She really has been looking forward to enjoying the Tsaiko Warblers up close. I know she deserves the break...we both do.
We have another house at our disposal that has several spare bedrooms. Problem is, it's in a ritzy gated community, and I have to wake up my son to come down the street and open the gate for us to drive in at prolly about 1 or 2 AM. That part, we are trying to work out. The neighbors are very huuuh, you know....!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
Kekoa- no worry, beef curry. I am all set!
2 more days!
OK- the gaggle of guys have been quiet for awhile. Time to go mini-bocha and hit the pillow!
Niteynite!
April 17th, 2008 at 11:57 pm

Yikes, the Rockies and Padres played 22 innings! Started at 7:05 p.m., ended at 1:21 a.m. Thank goodness that wasn't Boston and New York, those 9 inning games are four hours.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:18 am
just how old are you???
do you remember the mamas and papas?
weren't they pretty good back then?
April 18th, 2008 at 1:52 am

April 18th, 2008 at 1:53 am
Kekoa, just checking in and ... omigoonis!
Thanks, I think.
Easy, easy ... sked, you!
--
Meanwhile, to all: Nighty night! Can't believe I'm actually heading to bed this "early." It'll be the first time in four days that I've been able to sleep earlier than 4 a.m. Woo hoo! You'll know why I'll prolly show up at the k-call with circles under my eyes.
In today's Advertiser, you can see part of what's kept me and some of my colleagues working long hours: a special section heralding our first HawaiiMoms.com Mom of the Year awards program. Hope you'll check it out ... then head on over to HawaiiMoms.com to vote for your favorites.
Go there only for a minute, though. Then come right back here. I don't want our beloved blog host to think I'm wooing Tsaikos away. Heh.
Enjoy!

Nice read about Jon Medeiros. Wow, catching the bus at that time of day for a 90-minute ride is a sacrifice that deserves a reward like some PT once the season rolls around. Hope things continue to look up for him.
Yesterday I noticed that there are other students around real early in the morning, too. Lots of them have uniforms on as well. Different kind. Military kind. Hopefully someone else will notice their sacrifice as well and give them a shout out in the paper someday.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:20 am

Somebody named JJ on AM1500 now!
April 18th, 2008 at 6:25 am
d1shima,
i noticed dem too. i taught homey was instructen em. da pushups was so professional luukin.
April 18th, 2008 at 6:39 am
morning bighilofan2, d1shima, myki1, Stretch!
myki1 - thanks again for offering sj's chair
d1 - i'm with you on the other uniformed students
bighilo - intensity was up yesterday
have a safe and happy day!
oh yea, and hope everyone has tons of fun tomorrow day/night
April 18th, 2008 at 6:53 am
d1 - I caught the interview on 1500. JJ was giving his side of the story of the whole contract situation. I think he might be screwed since everything he says seems to be verbal and can only be confirmed by HF. We'll see how it pans out but I hope it just gets resolved and everyone moves on.
Speaking of lawsuits, anyone hear anything about the lawsuit by that recruit who didn't get the scholarship??

Mornin' chawan_cut ~ Mahalo for da practice #10 vids. Great reporting from our local stations last night, thanks for recording all 3-in-one. (Clever these rice bowl guys!)
April 18th, 2008 at 7:24 am
STRETCH
I remember (vaguely) that HF verbally told JJ that if a pro job should emerge after his second year, JJ would receive UH's blessings.
No pro job emerged.
The cliche is that no verbal contract is worth the paper it's written on.
Per Chancellor Hinshaw on L&L's program, the UH apparently is taking the position that a written contract reflects all the terms of employment.
See you on 4/26?
April 18th, 2008 at 7:31 am
Mornin' Tsaikettes!....La-La-La if you don't know the words yeah?! Us guys good for dat.

April 18th, 2008 at 7:37 am
JJ mentioned that he recalls singing a addendum/revised contract that states after 3 years he will not have to pay the $400k but it was misplaced at UH and can't be found. Hmmm, sounds kind of funny that he and Steinberg would not have a copy of their own in their files.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:52 am
excellent point, Stretch. Why didn't JJ have a copy of the addendum?
April 18th, 2008 at 7:56 am
Stretch ~ I need remedial training at Li'l learners preschool on da subject of table manners and recognizing local cuisine. That Grindz test was a whoppa-doozy! My score only proves that I no pay tenshun to what I eat...I jez grind!
