Backup QB has broken foot

May 2nd, 2008 by Stephen Tsai

Backup quarterback Shane Austin will not be able to train for the next six to eight weeks after suffering a fracture in his right foot on the final play of last week's Warrior Bowl.
Austin was on crutches today. His right foot was in a green cast.
The offseason conditioning program begins May 27. Austin is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in August.

Colt Brennan, Davone Bess, Jason Rivers, Ryan Grice-Mullins, Hercules Satele and Karl Noa are in NFL rookie camps right now.
For Brennan, the weekend also doubles as a meet-the-press tour.
Brennan, as a sixth-round draft pick, is expected to receive a signing bonus of up to $105,000 whenever he agrees to a contract.
Bess, Rivers and Grice-Mullins will receive signing bonuses as part of their deals. Noa and C.J. Hawthorne are not receiving signing bonuses as part of their free-agent deals. Everyone in a rookie camp has to sign some sort of a deal for liability purposes.

Blackie is the winner of the "Road to the Sugar Bowl: the 2007 Hawaii Warriors' Perfect Season."
I'm not sure who wrote it, but there are 128 pages of really nice photos.
He also gets a pass (for two) to an early screening of the new Narnia movie. Please call me at 525-8051 or e-mail at stsai@honoluluadvertiser.com.

ESPN feature article on the Warriors.

"We're the defending WAC champions, and that's how we're going to play," he said. "We lost some good players, but we have some good players in our program, and we have some good recruits to complement the guys that we lost.

"I'm really excited about this football team. We just have to build our personality."

The two coaches are similar, but by no means is McMackin a Jones clone, as players found out during practices this spring.

"In my four years with coach Jones here, we went full pads about three times, maybe," quarterback Tyler Graunke said. "Every day [this spring] we were out there in full pads, pants, everything, and we were going full-go. We've got our helmets on during stretching. [McMackin] doesn't put up with much b.s.

"It's just a whole other level of intensity."

"A lot of people are going to think it's a rebuilding year, but that's exactly what it's not going to be," Graunke said. "We don't like to hear that around here. We're not backing down to anybody.

"We're just going to keep rolling."

I know that ralvic hates JJ's comments about the facilities when he was leaving UH. However, Jim Donovan said that was a key for UH being able to get the money to improve their facilities.

"A lot of times it takes something negative to turn into a positive," Donovan said. "Even though there was a lot of focus on the facilities and there was some negative publicity and stuff, it becomes the catalyst for the [state] legislature, the university, the donors, to step forward and make things much better than they were. We're seeing that starting to happen."

Hawaii is in the process of installing a new turf practice field -- "It's definitely getting done," Donovan said -- and wants to move the football offices to refurbished space. Donovan's long-term goals include improvements to the locker rooms, equipment rooms, training rooms and weight rooms.

Donovan credits the former coach for the progress being made.

"Even by leaving, it might have been his last gift to the university to get people to focus on the things that we needed to improve," Donovan said. "It's starting to happen."

  5. Garret:

Article from a Redkins site mentions Colt.

Finally, the most intriguing selections for the Redskins were two sixth-rounders -- punter Durant Brooks and quarterback Colt Brennan. Brooks was the top-rated punter in the draft and should force incumbent Derrick Frost to look over his shoulder. As for Hawaii’s Brennan, he was one of the NCAA’s most prolific passers with a career completion rate of over 70 percent. But he achieved stardom in coach June Jones’ run-and-shoot offense and needs to prove he is more than just a system quarterback. Brennan has a tough guy’s mentality, but his arm strength has been questioned and he didn’t help himself with poor showings at the Sugar Bowl and Senior Bowl.

  6. Garret:

Hard to believe that an EIGHTH GRADER is giving his commit to a University...before he even chooses his high school! I was 12 and 13 years old (birthday was during the school year) during my 8th grade year at King, so 15 seems pretty old to me for the 8th grade.

Michael Avery, a 15-year-old eighth-grade basketball player who is 6 feet 4 and lives in Thousand Oaks, has committed to Kentucky.

"We know what college he's going to before his high school," his father, Howard, said Thursday.

Colleges offering scholarships to eighth-graders is no longer considered a rarity. Former Santa Ana Mater Dei standout Taylor King committed to UCLA before his freshman year of high school, later changing his mind.

As for which high school Avery will attend, he has registered at Encino Crespi but is trying to gain entrance to a boarding school in Indiana.

  7. Stephen Tsai:

That's not necessarily true about the full pads.
UH was in full pads a lot during Jones' tenure. Mack and Jones are similar in that they do not allow take-down tackles in practice. They allowed hitting and wrapping up, but didn't want takedowns because of the risk of somebody getting stepped on.
A few years ago, the defense decided to put a hit on a particularly mouthy scout-team player. He'd get the ball, boom. Get the ball again. Boom-Boom. The guy was less mouthy after that.

  8. Garret:

Arizona State denied that they have eliminated their cheerleading squad.

The Internet is alive with a new batch of racy photos of cheerleaders in their underwear, and there are reports the pictured women have caused Arizona State to cut cheerleading from its athletic program.

Absolutely not so, school offcials say.

All that's happening, school officials say, is that overseeing the squad is being assigned to the director of the marching band, in an effort to better coordinate all sideline activities on game days.

Initially, ASU officials said the photos all were of former ASU cheerleaders. But Steve Hank, the school's associate athletic director for marketing and revenue generation, said he has since learned two of the six women pictured are current cheerleaders.

The Internet chatter about ASU's cheerleaders picked up momentum last night when Phoenix' FOX affiliate reported ASU's athletic department would eliminate cheerleading because of the photos.

Brand and Hank said the timing of the photos appearing on the Internet and reassigning oversight of the cheerleaders was "a total coincidence."

  9. Garret:

    ST,

Thank you for the info on the full pads in practice! I was just going by what Tyler said in the article. Funny story on the scout team player!

  10. Garret:

This is very encouraging about Bess. He has a real shot at being with the Dolphins this season. Now it is up to him to beat out the others undrafted free agents...they aren't just going to easily give up on their dreams!

For those of you who want to get excited about rookie free agent signings - and I'd encourage you not to - Hawaii receiver Davone Bess, Georgia Southern receiver Jayson Foster, Purdue receiver Selwyn Lymon, Washington receiver Marcel Reece, and a junior college prospect named Justin Wynn are the names to watch.

One, if not two of these receivers, will AT LEAST make the practice squad, and get developed for a season. I know most of you have already fallen in love with Foster, but Bess is my front runner. However, I do have a right to alter that front-runner after I see them in the rookie minicamp.

Notice that Bess, who needs a little work in the route running department, catching the ball with his HANDS at its HIGHEST POINT. The knock on him is his character concerns, and the fact he's 5-foot-10, ran a 4.59 at the NFL combine, and bench pressed 225 pounds just 12 times. If he proves he can catch consistently, and beat cornerbacks one-on-one as opposed to running to spots (which is what they do in Hawaii's offense) Bess MIGHT have a chance to make the 53-man roster.

All of these guys do. It all depends on how much they want it, and the Trifecta wants to see the WANT IT.

  11. Garret:

I loved how I could follow (and post the relevant stuff here) the live blogs of Miami's practices last year and see how Samson, Reagan, and Tala were doing. Unfortunately, the new policies by the NFL means that I cannot do the same for Bess.

I wanted to be there for you, blogging live during rookie minicamp and training camp, helping you discover the next Chris Chambers. But the Dolphins have poured cold water all over those plans. This week they put in place a new media policy that all but bans live blogging during practice. I hope this means I'll get to watch all of practice during training camp.

I suspected this was eventually coming considering how rigid the NFL has become with access. I'll make sure I give you the best recap I can once practice is over, and my story is written. It just won't be as timely....Sorry guys and gals.

  12. onarock:

    Aloha Friday, Tsaikos!

I went to Pictures Plus yesterday to pick up my copy of the autographed 'Perfect Season' book and DVD. Didn't check if everything was inside the package until I got home......No DVD.

Any of you guys get your DVD? Anyway, when you do pick up your package, recommend looking inside before you leave. I called the store, but they said they're not the ones inserting the merchandise into the package, so I have to deal with the web marketing people. I called and left a message with Marlene Tamayo at 673-4721 explaining my situation and asking how I can get my copy of the DVD. I'll update you guys when I do get a response.

  13. Garret:

    ST,

The new blog came out at a perfect time for me--I just finished two big tasks that were due by the end of the week. I'm going to search around for more articles, but I think I found everything relevant already.

  14. Garret:

Nice mention of Chad Kapanui. It is good that he's bonded so well with his top WR.

Wide receiver O.J. Simpson (33 catches, 372 yards), UIF's leader with an average of 6.6 receptions per game, will play tonight despite a MCL sprain that occurred in the fourth quarter last Friday on a dropped pass near the end zone. He had his second 100-yard receiving game of the season, with 11 catches for a season-high 116 yards and TD grabs of 12 and 11 yards.

"O.J. and (quarterback) Chad Kapanui stay at the same hotel and talk about coverages," said DeGeorgia. "They showed what they could do last week. I think O.J. is one of the best receivers the Bandits have had, in terms of a guy who will fight for the extra yard and not allow one guy to bring him down."

  16. lakesidegt:

    Onarock
    Thanks for the heads up.

I've been waiting for my set also; and have been receiving updates from Marlene.

Did the store call you to pick up the set? I was under the impression that they would call first and I haven't received the call yet. Or did you go to Pictures Plus without first getting called?

  17. las vegas:

    Good afternoon,
ST, Do you know if the NFL teams are covering the costs for the FA players going to camp?
i.e. airfare, meals and hotel costs, I know that the equipment and uniforms are provided.
    Look for an answer later.

Too bad I'll miss being here (again) during the giveaway, oh well, at least I'm still cute and cuddly!

  18. James:

    175th.....oh wait, only 17th.....mwahahahahaha

    Good morning Tsaikos....

  19. onarock:

    lakesidegt,

I got an e-mail supposedly authored by Kent Untermann, but via Marlene's e-mail address. The first paragraph read,

"Dear Perfect Season Book Collector and Na Koa Supporter,

Finally we have all the books signed, the certificates numbered and signed by Colt and our last delay was waiting for the DVD which arrived Monday courtesy of KBMB 9. For those picking your books up on Oahu Pictures Plus Stores you will have them ready at the store by Thursday, May 1st. For those on Neighbor islands they will be arriving on island next week and the stores will call you. For those who opted to have them mailed they will be sent by the end of the week."

So, I called the Ward Center store by chance yesterday and asked if they had my copy. Gave them my name and my transaction ID (provided in my confirmation of sale e-mail, a 10-digit number). Picked it up after work yesterday. Should have looked inside before I left, so atleast there's no doubt in their eyes that I didn't receive the DVD rather me trying to just get another one for free. Hope this doesn't get messy. Up to this point though, they've been really good with the status updates service. Not trying to make them look bad, because they've been awesome, just trying to give a heads up to all y'all.

  20. las vegas:

    James,
I really believe that you should rethink the model holding the "Bonafide Tsai-ko lettering decal" on your site.

If nothing else, it's gotta hurt sales and offend the eyes.

  21. Stephen Tsai:

    Garret:
They also had to call off the "hit" because the scout player started getting some regular playing time on special teams and they didn't want to hurt him.

    onarock,

what you just posted is exactly what happened to me. I picked up my padded envelope and just left. I did the exact same thing and did not open the envelope until I got back to work. The book is beautiful but there was no DVD.

I noticed you said that you called. Well I emailed and have yet to receive a response.

If I hear anything on my end as well ill post.

  29. ralvic:

    Good Morning

    Wow Garret,(#3)

That was a great article about the Warriors. And the frankness and candid ency that Graunke describes in the interview, basically undermining Coach Jones' coaching. And deferring Coach Jones' approach to practice as fooling around...and inferring that with Coach Mack we have no BS is a pretty strong statement. You go Graunke.Because that's what I pretty much... what I thought....and touched on in the past on my gripes on how the Warriors in the past approached practicing.I've written that OL was out of shape the whole year.I've written that there mis tackling because they were not practicing that hard. The proofs there to read,Graunke says,"All the time Coach Jones was here we may have gone three times with full pads on.With Coach Mack we had pads on everyday of spring practice".So it was great to hear it from a player. When Bess was here for a chat he also alluded to the fact that he didn't think the Warriors didn't prepare for the Sugar Bowl that well, either.

For myself, personally, there were some barbs that the former coach had said in public that rubbed me the wrong way.Purposely not wanting to get into it,reading the ESPN article with Graunke comparing the two coaches unfavorable allows me to think that this is a much deserved barb directed back at Coach Jones. And deservingly, too.I think this is the tip of the iceberg. And I think the ghost of the past, all of Coach Jones transgressions, here, will someday surface,too....So many years I've listened to how everything, every thing good UH did on the field was attributed to Coach Jones. And I've always contended that the local players and hall of fame high school coaches didn't get the credit due to them. Now, someday ,people will see.

    Hi jojo!

    http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0508/516441.html

"Notes: Zorn revealed that sixth-round draft Kareem Moore, a safety from Nicholls State, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this week. ... QB Colt Brennan, the sixth-round selection from Hawaii, was on the field but didn't take part in any drills as he continues to recover from hip surgery. "We're going to hold him out now," Zorn said. "He's not ready. He's antsy. We had to tell him four or five times, 'You're not throwing today."' ... Three other players were unable to participate because of injuries. CB Carlos Rogers and LB Rocky McIntosh are recovering from major knee surgeries, while TE Tyler Ecker again has a pulled groin. Ecker missed all of last season with a groin injury."

  33. homey ®:

ralvic - ST pointed out some things in his #7 post.

  34. ralvic:

garret -jones makes his statements at a press conference announcing his hiring. This is not the time or place for the former coach to say these things.I'll never be swayed what others think.Because I think this is 100% wrong. JD shouldn't be swayed either. He should look at jones statement as embarrassing the UH. Jones makes this statement to make himself all mighty to the smu press, where people can marvel at how he can do with so much with so little of facilities and recruiting at UH.

  35. homey ®:

XLiz - Thanks for the Colt update! I'm too lazy to search so you make my life much easier. 8)

  41. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc:

    Aloha Kakou:

These past eight months have been exceedingly stressful for me both personally and professionally. First was trying to recover from a serious car accident - please note that a stopped 1970 VW Bug is no match for an SUV traveling 35+ mph. After getting released to go back to work, I had about two weeks to slip back into my day job before the Legislature went into session in mid-January.

By the end of the first week of the Session in late January, spirits were pretty high around the Capitol. Although most of us regulars knew that there would be some belt-tightening, we also had a lot of bills dealing with solid waste management, sustainability & Smart Growth, education, social services & workforce housing, energy, environmental protection, global warming/sea level rise, and economic growth which would help manage Hawai`i's future.

Now, of course, there's not very much to celebrate. All the bad economic news has crushed even some of the most beneficial & innovative legislation in many different areas because legislators feel compelled to "stop a recession from happening" by reducing spending and not expanding existing programs or establishing new ones which benefit the public - thus setting up a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Although I have some immediately tasks to do such as clearing off my desk in order to find some unpaid bills, I do plan to spend this weekend playing real world politics at the Democratic Party's O`ahu Convention tonight & tomorrow morning before heading up to UH to watch some softball and baseball tomorrow & Sunday afternoon. Hard to believe the season is almost over for both teams.

I do have some comments concerning a number of issues raised here on the blog. For starters, although Kitty Lagareta is bright and hard-working, she is an overtly political appointee to the Board of Regents.

Herman Frazier came to work at UH approximately three months before Lingle won in November 2002 so technically he could be considered as part of the Cayetano legacy; however, Lagareta was a Regent and in a leadership position for nearly five years while he was Athletic Director.

Second, there is no such thing as a Senate Board of Education. There IS a Board of Education, but it handles only grades K-12. All its members are elected with half of the 13 seats up for election in even-numbered years. I actually ran for the BOE in 2002 to fill a vacancy and again in 2004 for the full four-year term. Obviously, I did not win, but I did do pretty well all things considered such as no money and no union endorsements.

There are three legislative committees dealing with education. They provide oversight & support for close to 300,000 Hawai`i residents who are students, staff, or faculty in all levels of public education. The House has two committees - the Education Committee currently chaired by Roy Takumi and the Higher Education Committee currently led by Jerry Chang - while the Senate has combined them into one committee chaired by Norman Sakamoto.

All three committee chairs are appointed or re-appointed at the beginning of each two-year term and serve at the pleasure of the House Speaker or Senate President with the concurrence of the majority leadership.

Re the state budget: The Governor has three options under the State Constitution: She can sign the bill, she can veto the bill, or she can let it go into law without her signature.

The second option really does not exist in this universe at this time because all state government functions would shut down within hours or days of the start of the fiscal year on July 1, 2008. No prison guards on duty and no birth certificates issued to name just two state functions would cease were Da Gov to veto the budget. Yes, it's true that other states have been forced to shut down their government operations, but that's because they ran up deficits which are barred by our Constitution.

As for letting the budget go into law without her signature, that's not a wise political move - especially given the overall weakness of the GOP here in Hawai`i - because it indicates that she doesn't have the figurative cojones to make tough decisions.

That means the only realistic option is to sign the bill - HB2500 HD1 SD1 CD1 - RELATING TO THE STATE BUDGET - and then to choose one or both actions to deal with parts she doesn't like. She can exercise a line item veto or she can simply withhold releasing the funds after July 1.

So - what can we do now? The best thing to do is to contact her office by writing a REAL letter using your real name & full contact information asking her 1) to sign the bill and 2) to release the funds as quickly as possible for the Athletic Department projects as well as the UH System repairs & maintenance allocations. Be polite but firm, but please no threats. If writing is not your strong point, find someone to help you out with spelling & grammar.

E-mails are not nearly effective and will still require all the documentation and corrections. Taking a few minutes to make a phone call will have some impact but not nearly as much as the letter.

For those of you who live on O`ahu, go to your community's next Neighborhood Board meeting and speak with the Governor's representative who is always on the Board's agenda. I have a request in to the Governor's office for a complete list of these 33 people. Neighbor Island residents can contact the Neighbor Island Liaisons on Maui, Moloka`i/Lana`i, East Hawai`i, West Hawai`i, and Kaua`i.

Re feeding feral cats - I have been involved with these activities for over 15 years now here in Windward O`ahu as a volunteer and through donations. All responsible caretakers who head these programs are registered with the Humane Society and problems should be addressed to them. Animals do not defecate anywhere near their food supply so perhaps it would make sense to feed the Lower Campus cats close to where you don't want them poop. Another possibility is to put repellant on the ground to discourage any animals from using the area.

This post is wayyyyyy too long plus I really have to get back to work. Will deal with the Aloha Stadium issues which, by the way, really caught me off guard when I first heard about them and my suggestion for a Tsaiko Project for the Athletic Department sometime next week.

"Sparano made it clear that the quarterback position is an, "open competition,'' between Henne, John Beck and Josh McCown.

"At the end of this we're going to find out who the best quarterback is,'' Sparano said. "I was pleasantly surprised. I was happy with what Chad did, especially from a mental standpoint. From a quarterback, it's all about what he does in the huddle. It's how he takes control. ... Chad managed the team fine at the line of scrimmage.''

Sparano also praised the undrafted Bess, who averaged 97 catches in Hawaii's run-and-shoot offense.

"You could see his ability when you watch him catch,'' Sparano said. "When you watch his tape, he's running and catching constantly.''

RE: Perfect Season Book / DVD (via Pictures Plus)

Marlene returned my call. She'll be mailing my copy of the DVD. She noted that one customer called about the same problem thinking the DVD was inserted into the book, but later looked inside the padded envelope and found the DVD. Not so in my case, I checked that buggah 3 times, even flipped through all the pages of the book just in case.

So, long story short, CHECK YOUR ENVELOPE BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE STORE. The DVD should be separate from the book, so pull the book out and look for the DVD, if no mo', go back to the store. Marlene said that she has sent extra copies of the DVD to the Ward store since that's where she has had some other customers also claiming the missing DVD. I'm sure she's having her people checking all envelopes by now.

Marlene, if you're reading this blog - MAHALOZ for all your help, great customer service, and positive attitude!!

  54. homey ®:

    I guess it's easier to wear a t-shirt than a book.

Stretch - Yeah, I second your post!

  55. bb:

    onarock,

thanks for that update. I have yet to receive an email but it looks like that we were not the only ones. When I pulled out my book I not only thumbed through the pages looking for the disk, I even looked behind the certificate that Colt signed thinking there was some sort of secret compartment or something. Its friday, im lazy and i dont want to have to drive back to the Ward Ave store so hopefully she will mail me my copy as well.

Thanks for posting and the update. Much appreciated.

    #56

  57. SteveM:

Very slow day...so I'll answer my earlier trivia question about why I was curious if, and on what day, did TChahng meet BG in Korea.

    Consider this...

March 12, 2007. las vegas and 702WarriorNation meet with visiting Rich2176 in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Tsai-ko Chapter was founded. las vegas the President, Rich2176 the Chapter affiliate.

May 19, 2007. FloridaTed meets with visiting Garret in Florida. The Florida Tsai-ko Chapter was founded. FloridaTed is President, Garret the Chapter affiliate.

August 29, 2007. Ronnie gathers the southern CA Tsai-kos (two of whom are affiliates) for a Calf Call. The Lo-Cal Tsai-ko Chapter was founded. No affiliate needed due to numbers. Ronnie is President.

August 29, 2007. whitey meets with visiting SteveM on Maui. The Maui Tsai-ko Chapter was founded. whitey the President, SteveM the Chapter affiliate.

October 16, 2007. LizKauai meets with visiting Stretch on Kauai. The Kauai Tsai-ko Chapter was founded. LizKauai the President, Stretch the Chapter affiliate.

April 27, 2008. TChahng meets with visiting BG in Korea.... the first international Tsai-ko Chapter ?!? :)

TChahng -- by convention, you are now the Korea Tsai-ko Chapter President unless you run away screaming. Since we can't hear you and know you don't run away... Congratulations!

  58. BigWave96744:

    Another contest :)

    Man it's like ebay...
No action for a while then right before the winner, boom, everyone submits and you miss the boat :(

  59. BigWave96744:

    Tsaikos vs SH Football Game...
    When?
    What time?
    Where?
    How long are the Qtr?
    Rule?

    We should also have:
    - 40 yard dashes
    - 220 runs (per age and/or weight groups)
    - Longest Pass
    - Longest Punt
    - Longetst Kick

    HOW YOU FIGGAH???

  60. bb:

RE: Perfect Season Book / DVD (via Pictures Plus)

I got an email response from Marlene and in her email she said that a number of people that picked up their books from the Ward Ave store were missing their DVD's. She apologized and asked me to respond back with my mailing address. She already replied back that she is going to be mailing it on Monday via USPS.

    Problem solved. (I hope) :)

SteveM - When was the Oahu Tsaiko Chapter founded?

    BigWave96744 - Go ICS!

  62. ralvic:

    Good Afternoon

This week we've heard so much of the Tom Brady argument, namely how a good QB can be overlooked in the draft.Tom Brady was a sixth round draft choice. But does anyone know who the NE Patriots picked first in the 2000 draft?

Players the Patriots took in the 2000 Draft before they took Tom Brady:

2nd Round - Adrian Klemm - Tackle - University of Hawaii
    3rd Round - J.R. Redmond - Running Back - Arizona State University
    4th Round - Greg Robinson-Randall - Tackle - Michigan State
5th Round - Dave Stachelski - Tight End - Boise State
5th Round - Jeff Marriott - Defensive Tackle - University of Missouri
6th Round - Antwan Harris - Defensive Back - University of Virginia

Did anyone else know this? I didn't.

  63. midori7:

ok, I'll help move this contest along today too...

Hope everyone is having a great Aloha Friday afternoon!

ST: is the presentation of the WAC Champs bracelets still on for the Softball team?

  64. homey ®:

    BigWave96744 - I think the Tsaiko's rather karaoke than break a sweat.

  65. homey ®:

ralvic - I don't even think Kiper knew that!

  66. BigWave96744:

Too late, Jason called us chickens...
I've already begun training by cutting down to 5 doughnuts a day..

BTW, if you go to Zippys in the morning you can buy day old sugar or glaze flaky doughnut in a bag for like 6 for 2 bucks... or pay a buck for a fresh one

  67. Rob25:

Hey Ronnie...Maybe I should look into renting a van for the time that I am there. What do you think? Or at least I could rent one for a couple of days...will check on prices and let you know. I don't even have one of those UH car flags.

  68. jojo ®:

    HI HOMEY!
    HI LIZ!

    LOA! Are you hiding?

  69. ralvic:

i know homey. i just happened upon these facts. And obviously Klemm has to be a stud to the number 1 pick of the NE organization. This says a lot about Klemm ability.

  70. onarock:

    1st Annual Tsaiko Bowl!

    Where do I sign up?

  71. onarock:

    71

  72. onarock:

    72

  73. Kekoa:

SteveM ~ Since I live on the ceded lands of Kaupe'a, within the Villages Kapolei, and am a card carrying member of the Hawaiian Nation. Can I be considered the President of the Tsaiko chapter of said Nation.

If the answer is NO! I will gather my Iolani Palace Crew and occupy every Buffet on island. There will be no entrance allowed to the public until I am recognized as the Chapter Prez. Nah j/k!...heheheh

  74. onarock:

"You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down."

    72

  75. SteveM:

    Other related questions to ponder...

    1. Did Maverick really go into hiding after meeting Addahknowjoe in Hilo last summer? Thus no Hilo Chapter. Addahknowjoe would be affiliate.

    2. Did wafan meet I Believe in the state Washington a few months back to meet Chapter criteria?

    3. The Northern California (Bay Area) Tsai-ko Chapter has already meet the requirements to form, except the best Tsai-ko President candidate has to come out of the closet ... :P

  76. homey ®:

BigWave96744 - Jason called you guys chicken too! I know gigi did. Must be the Korean blood.

  77. onarock:

    4. Will Joe "No" Moore ever accept the team's nickname as the "Warriors"?....Doubt it, that guy has an ego the size of his head.

  78. Koauka:

Hurry up, I want free swag. Halfway to paydirt. (lol)

  79. homey ®:

onarock - send your resume to gigi. she'll recommend a position for you. It's only a recommendation so feel free to play wherever you want.

I think AddaknowJoe has the answer...

  81. Rob25:

WOW you guys are serious about winning the prize today!

  82. homey ®:

    5. will there ever be a longer post than post #41?

  83. Rob25:

Cngrats Ronnie on being appointed Lo-Cal Tsaiko Chapter President. I get to visit with someone especially important!

  84. Rob25:

If I am going to Fresno Game with Ronnie and Liz, then I am going to have to start an affiliate...they are both Chapter Presidents...gotta come up with something.

  85. LizKauai [Believer]:

bhf2 - re your #50 - dat was soooo long ago, I porget already!!!!

    bwahahaha

  86. LizKauai [Believer]:

    http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/palmbeach/miamidolphins/entries/2008/05/02/day_1_of_rookie_camp_and_the_e.html

One of them did stand out - Hawaii WR Davone Bess. He didn’t get drafted despite catching 108 passes last season and scoring 41 TDs in his college career. Bess (5-10, 195) is a little small and a tad slow (4.63 in 40), but he catches everything thrown his way.

He made the best catch of the day, a diving grab on a down-and-in route thrown by Henne.

SteveM - When was the Oahu Tsaiko Chapter founded?

homey-- good question. While the Cattle Calls and meets worked for smaller chapters, I would say Blog Party 1 on December 28, 2006 was the date.

...and who doesn't know/realize who the Oahu Chapter President is.... :)
hint: he was Blog Party 1

Kekoa -- you have met the requirements for a Hawaii Nation chapter :)

  89. LizKauai [Believer]:

    Old news:

    http://mvn.com/nfl-buccaneers/2008/04/28/draft-thoughts-and-surprises/

"J Leman (LB, Illinois), Paul Smith (QB, Tulsa), Davone Bess (WR, Hawaii), Ryan Grice-Mullen (WR, Hawaii), and Danny Woodhead (RB, Chadron State) went undrafted. All five are very good, capable players, who went home without a team. I hope they can find their way into the NFL and put every team to shame that didn’t draft them."

    On the WAY, Babee!

  90. Rob25:

Which one needs to be approved...wait who is on the Tsaiko confirmation committee?

Why are you on probation...just like new state employees?

  91. Rob25:

Thanks for the great articles Liz. Glad to hear the Hawaii players get some respect. I think that Colt will prove his worth also.

  92. management:

and what's wrong with a long post?

  93. onarock:

    Stretch,

Don't know how Kanoa puts up with the guy. I still cringe when I flip to their channel for sports a little too early to hear the ego-maniac blurt out the insult to our WARRIORS. No disrespect to the long-time fans with 'traditional' mindsets, but today's players came here, walked-on, signed-on, and committed to become a WARRIOR, not a rainbow. Yeah, I'd like to hear what AddaknowJoe would have to say on this.

    Homey,

    Click-clack, boom!

  94. Rob25:

I agree with onarock...things change and we have to keep up or get out of the way. Football is like that. You have to keep up with the big guys to compete and you still don't get enough respect from the traditional football powers. Kanoa is very good at being diplomatic and you can see that he thrives on the radio show and with the PBS show as well.

  95. homey ®:

    XLiz - Thank u much!

Rob25 - The Tsaiko confirmation committee is like the knights Templar...your everyday Tsaiko but they possess extraordinary skills.

As far as probation, I wear a collar like on he show "Running Man". If I have too many CR's my head explodes.

  96. LizKauai [Believer]:

Rob25- It's a giggle, clap and bwahahaha every time I run across these little tidbits about our Fab Five as they move on to the next level.
Not to mention a nanny nanny boo boo

  97. homey ®:

management - who said there's anything wrong with a long post?

  98. LizKauai [Believer]:

xs-homey - if we put only a paragraph into each post, we'll get to 175 a lot sooner!!!

  99. LizKauai [Believer]:

    eeeeuuuwww - exploding xs-head ...

The Rainbowtique sells UH car flags. Don't know how big it is or how much though.

You & Ronnie & Liz are brave souls for attending the Fresno St. game this year!

  106. Rob25:

onarock...they don't care if we take our time...the train (oh and it is a gravy train BTW) will move on without us. We can't afford to worry about hurting someone's sensitivity meters...this is a business and we have to support the only team that will take us to the promised land. OK don't mean to use so many cliches, but sometimes people don't get it.

  107. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    175!!! Yes, that's what I weighed as a sophmore at KS... 175!!!
(ok homey, take your best shots now and try to make them in seperate posts...)

  108. Rob25:

Thanks midori7. I would like to get my hands on the old white one...the only one that I ever see there is the football shaped one.

The brave souls just might be the Fresno fans that are sitting in our area.

    Yeah, I know, that's a scary thought.

  109. HiFlyer:

    What' the magic number again??

  110. Rob25:

I was just thinking the same thing HiFlyer...along with...what's the prize? I remember something about tickets to a movie.

  111. LizKauai [Believer]:

    http://blog.mlive.com/highlightreel/2008/05/marinelli_has_confidence_dizon.html

Q: How does Rod Marinelli stop and look at Jordon Dizon during this rookie mini-camp?

RM: First, we'll want to see how he processes information, taking things from the classroom to the field. And he's seemed like a quick study so far. Then introducing him to all our little patterns and drills – just playing Cover 2, and how you open up is different for these guys. The instincts, the awareness, the feel. We look at that. I think he's going to be excellent in coverage. He's got to learn the run fits. We know how his tempo's gonna be.

Q: I heard Dizon had an I.V. at almost every game.

RM: I think he goes fast. *laughs* You sit in a room with him, and he just lights the room up with his energy and love for the game. Guys like that just always play well.

    Q: How's Ikaika Alama-Francis' development?

RM: He's having a really great off-season. He's about 280 pounds right now. And you know he can really run. He's in really good shape. He looks fabulous. Now it's just working each and every day to get the skill level up. Last year, he was hitting in practice. And we were just getting ready to go, get him going, and he pulled a hamstring. And that set him back three or four weeks. You know some guys, just when you start to get into habit, then you can't do anything, then you have to restart the engine again. But he's a willing football player. He'll do anything you ask him to do. He tries, he lifts. You get a player like that, and you know he'll be a special player.

    REPRESENT!!!

  112. Da Punchbowl Kid:

We have a president? President al? If he dunn wanna be it, I think Kekoa would make a swell Prezzydent. I'd like to be his Minister of Buffets. ;)

  113. Rob25:

OK went back to the top to look...I don't think that I have that book yet. Just the Jones book...haven't even had time to read all of that yet.

  125. Stretch:

DPK - did you have to wear the tights when you wrestled??

  126. Da Punchbowl Kid:

    "notices" :lol:

  127. Rob25:

I'm not scared of Fresno...apparently we Hawaii fans scare them. The only thing that would make me scared was if they pulled out a gun.

  128. HiFlyer:

Liz, I'm trying to get it there and yea I meant the comments on the blog.

  129. LizKauai [Believer]:

    Stretch- you heah or deah?

OK, I'll put the rascal away...

  196. addahknowjoe:

    Blackie- Congratulations!

You'll need to pick up your book at the next Tsai-ko function!

  197. HiFlyer:

Okay now everyone back to our normal programing, if there is such a thing here.

  198. Rob25:

Get out of the way onarock....it should have been me!

    Gotta get back to work!

  200. LizKauai [Believer]:

Rob25 - I can think of a few kolohe things...
but the best thing will just be waving the green and cheering for the Warriors and watching them get the W :!:

    L8terz

  201. Blackie:

addahknowjoe - The book doesn't matter that much to me, I hope to make it out to a function regardless. It's just a matter of finding the time...

  202. Kekoa:

    DPK ~

Check post #88 - As this will upset the 3rd string Warriors when they learn about the latest house rules. These are rewards & words from your newly appointed President ~

    RE: Hawaiian Nation Tsaiko Chapter

Before appointing anyone to the position of Minister of Buffets, or any other office representing the Hawaiian Nation, I will create a nomination panel of registered Hawaiians to select those who are elgible.

Who might they be? There is a list being compiled as we speak. Should be completed by COB Monday, May 5, 2008. Cinqo De Mango Day.

Other positions that are open for nominees are:

Vice- President ~ of the Hawaiian Nation Tsaiko Chapter.
This person basically catches all the Sh-eesh...what I job! He is the Minister of Bufftes, Parking, Location procurement, and Misc.

Master-At-Arms ~ Keeps order between the President & Vice-President especially if their discussions begin to get personal, and involves name calling or engaging in fisticuffs.

  203. midori7:

    Congrats to Blackie!

Listening to Peter Cetera right now, so just wondering...

SteveM: how did Peaches like the Chicago concert? Forgot to ask her at Genji's.

  204. Kekoa:

BTW ~ It's Pau Hana for this President as it is nearly 3 PM on a Friday afternoon.

  205. onarock:

Cutler recently was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The story was first reported Thursday night by The Denver Post on its website. "

  216. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc:

    Hey Tsaikos:

Remember back in early March when the paid staffers at HA went dark on the blogs and bylined their stories Advertiser Staff? We were asked not to post during the protest period and I believe most folks abided by ST's request as did some of the non-staff regulars like Portnoy and Toth. (Burris blogged during the blog strike.)

I believe a similar blank period is happening now but this time with the video clips, but Da King was asked not to use this blog to promote or support union activities.

  217. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc:

Chawan - see you tomorrow. I don't expect to be through with meetings tonight in time to get to the ball park. However, I'll be listening in from time to time.

  218. Kekoa:

Midori7 ~ Gonna be rolling in with Koakane and my Pops for the ball game. Where can we meet you and your sister Julie? Stretch said he might come later. He also said you had some tickets left over from last year... :?:

  219. LizKauai [Believer]:

Doc- good question. We should ask more and ST can nod or shake because he cannot talk about it.

  220. Will:

Great pictures of Colt. He does need to work on converting his mini-keg back to a six pack though.

  221. chawan_cut:

    capitol-ist...
so you're saying our favorite tiser videographers are not getting paid right now? or do they have other non-video work like writing to work?

  226. NYUH:

Anyone want to comment on the prospects of the prospective DEs?

LDE- Victor Clore, Alasi Toilolo, David Veikune

RDE- C.J. Allen-Jones, John Fonoti, Elliott Purcell

  227. Stephen Tsai:

    Aloha, folks.
You may continue to post on this and every other union-friendly blog.
The action that The Advertiser management won't let me talk about extends only to the Princess Leila's speciality.

  228. Stretch:

Thanks Liz for the info on Rivers.

Rivers and Bess seem to be making a good first impression. I hope they keep it up!!

  229. Stephen Tsai:

By the end of training camp, Clore was in the playing rotation at defensive end. Of course, Fonoti and Veikune are the starters. But Elliott Purcell has really made a move, and he'll be in the rotation. They really like Toilolo's quickness and toughness; remember, he's a late bloomer. And if Maka gets eligible, UH will be at least three-deep at defensive end.

  230. LizKauai [Believer]:

Okeydokey, ST! Ignore my voicemails

  231. Koauka:

So ST, all of the HA videographers are on "hiatus?"

  232. LizKauai [Believer]:

  233. BowsForever:

Colt looks like he belongs there. His number works for me -- he was part of Hawaii football's version of the Fab Five, after all. Wonder who #14 is in those pics, btw.

  234. BowsForever:

Aside from Maka, are there any other Warriors still fighting for extra years of eligibility (I guess for injury hardship)?

  235. ralvic:

    Good Afternoon

I'm looking at pictures from the Warrior Bowl(pictures 1-26 on other page).Looking at the player's apparel I'm questioning if all the players are wearing Under Armour. Some of the shoes and socks look like they have Nike swishes.Or does Under Armour logo look like Nikes, too? Does anybody know?

  236. HiFlyer:

ralvic, they were still using the old nike unis.

  237. ralvic:

tks hiflyer...gees I was wondering why dan k had the distinctive nike logo on shoes, socks and uni.

WHEN IS THE NEXT MAJOR KARAOKE CALL?

Help decide this. The planning committee is just forming but already has widely varying dates. We will establish the WHEN before tackling the WHERE.

The Krazy Karaoke Call on March 19 was an intermediate-to-large evolution. The next one is hopefully in the large class (40-50 people so no one is left out), be in a totally different venue and have a more casual tailgate/party type atmosphere ...along with great karaoke. :)

I have a brief explanation and a survey posted to gather your input. Decided to resurrect the survey rather than send emails. This way, no flooded email boxes and those not currently on the karaoke email list can participate (also send me your email address if you want to be included in any email announcements). Please take the short survey at:

  257. Garret:

This video of Miami's rookie mini-camp shows Bess catching one or two passes.

  258. Garret:

The WR Foster who is probably the biggest competition Bess has in the rookie mini-camp is pretty small--some of the UH WRs (like RGM) were put down due to their size, but RGM is pretty big compared to Foster.

Jayson Foster also looks like he’s pretty dynamic. But at 5-foot-7, 170 pounds, the former Georgia Southern star is going to have to be something pretty special to make this team.

  259. Garret:

This reporter lumps Bess and Foster together, calling them both "super tiny". But I think Bess is quite a bit bigger than Foster...unless I'm remembering things incorrectly.

Receivers Davone Bess and Jayson Foster are super tiny, but they have the ability to adjust to the ball, and possess the quickness needed to separate. It's going to be hard to tell how they would do against real competition because I didn't notice anyone worth mentioning in the secondary.

  260. Garret:

By the way, no blogging for me on almost all of Saturday and Sunday. We have Faith's soccer game early tomorrow and then we're driving to Whittier to visit our friends. Sunday will be Disneyland, and then I'll catch up with the blog Sunday night.

  261. Garret:

Looks like Pete Carroll and a USC assistant coach may have to testify in Reggie Bush's trial.

USC Coach Pete Carroll and one of his assistants could be summoned into the courtroom as part of the civil lawsuit involving Reggie Bush, an attorney in the case said Friday.

A would-be sports marketing agent, Lloyd Lake, has claimed he gave Bush nearly $300,000 in cash and gifts while the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner was playing college football for the Trojans. Lake's attorney, Brian Watkins, said Carroll and running backs coach Todd McNair could play a role in his trial strategy.

"Both Pete Carroll and Todd McNair are most likely going to be witnesses," Watkins said by telephone after a morning court hearing. "I can't talk about what we're going to be asking them."

Carroll was linked to the case after Lake alleged that he overheard a telephone conversation between the coach and Bush's stepfather. Carroll could not be reached Friday.

Lake also claimed to have met McNair on several occasions while Bush was at USC. McNair has previously said he was not aware of any alleged wrongdoing. Friday, he declined to comment.

Both coaches have spoken to NCAA investigators who want to know if Bush and his family accepted improper benefits and, just as important, if USC knew.

Returning to the courtroom, Lewis announced that Lake would be deposed by Bush's attorneys on June 5 and 6. Bush is to give statements under oath on June 23. LaMar Griffin, his stepfather, and mother Denise are to give depositions shortly thereafter.

The judge also denied a defense request that deposition transcripts be kept confidential. Bush's attorneys suggested they might revisit the issue. Watkins reiterated that he would consider handing the transcripts to the NCAA.

  262. SteveM:

Well, based on blog testimony and photographic evidence submitted by wafan, it looks like we officially had a

    Western Washington Tsai-ko Chapter

since February 16, 2008 (the documentation was lost in the email). Congratulations to President wafan and VP Izzy. I Believe is designated the W. WA Chapter affiliate. 8)

  263. Garret:

Another article about the Reggie Bush court dispute.

Bush might actually go to trial in March 2009 and possibly drag Pete Carroll's program through the mud.

The farther the Bush case is distanced from 2004 and 2005, the better for the Trojans, but the damage assessment scenarios remain unchanged.

If it's determined USC had nothing to do with an alleged off-campus money grab from a dubious hanger-on, the NCAA won't hit USC with major sanctions. If USC is involved, well, that would be a good day for UCLA.

If Bush acted alone, he could lose his 2005 Heisman Trophy and USC might have to forfeit games in which he played. If Bush is ruled to have been ineligible in 2004, the year USC won the BCS title, it remains doubtful the Trojans would be stripped of their championship. The NCAA does not govern the bowls, so USC's title would have to be recalled by the Associated Press writers (fat chance) and the voting coaches (fatter chance).

I picked up my book today from Pictures Plus Kahala, and as soon as I walk in, the lady goes, "Picking up your book??". I guess the UH shirt and hat must have given me away.

ST & HA Staff - great work, great pictures. BTW - I am famous!! There is a picture of me in the book. It is like a "Where's Stretch (Waldo)" but at least I know it's me.

I got it at the UH book store.
And that's how I found out about Shane Austin. I was driving on Upper Campus and I saw him hobbling on crutches. I rolled down the window, and yelled: "So?"

Remember how we used to be well stocked with QB's in the past? Eventually, some would transfer. Seems we have the same set-up again. I hope none of them transfer; and I hope they all get to play! Maybe some will have to change positions but I believe Mack will give them each a fair and square shake.

  276. Manoa Mist:

    Hi Stephen.
Just wanted to let you know that all Hawaii supports the Advertiser staffers enduring this union/contract battle. It's just sad that Gannett has to put employees who do great work for them and the community into this situation. An offer of a 1 percent raise and increased medical contributions is just a slap in the face. Is that the thanks you folks get for going above and beyond with blogs and shooting videos? I'm going to contact the Hawaiian Kingdom people, and have them chain the doors closed at the Advertiser building. No one who works for Gannett on the mainland will be allowed entrance, unless they first sit down with the police chief and buy him donuts. If they make it to the lobby, we'll have the Kauai Superferry protesters waiting for 'em. All the folks I know who work for the Advertiser are fair-minded, talented professionals who care deeply about Hawaii and its people. Gannett needs to recognize that, not disrespect it.

This practice report isn't great for Bess, since it says that Foster did well and is returning punts. No mention of Bess returning punts, but it did point out a drop.

Jayson Foster, playing exclusively at receiver, was impressive. He has great acceleration and catches the ball cleanly which is impressive because he played QB at Georgia Southern last year.

*Bill Parcells watched throughout. The only player I saw him talking to was Foster, which is great for Foster because Parcells obviously thinks enough of him to even know he exists.

*Foster was also used returning punts.

*Khristopher Kasparek and Davone Bess each dropped at least one easy pass.

Colt born in 1983 is a Boar on the Chinese Zodiac
(copied from the above web site)

Chinese New Year zodiac Boar is a splendid companion, an intellectual with a very strong need to set difficult goals and carry them out. People born in this Chinese zodiac sign are gracious and gallant. Whatever they do, they do with all their strength. They have tremendous courage and great honesty. They don't make many friends but they make them for life. They don't talk much but have a great thirst for knowledge. People under this Chinese zodiac study a great deal and are generally well informed. Boar people are quick tempered, yet they hate arguments and quarreling. They are kind to their loved ones. No matter how bad problems seem to be, Boar people try to work them out, honestly if sometimes impulsively. They thrive in the arts as entertainers.

Chinese zodiac boar are most compatible with Rabbits and Sheep.

Of June Jones and Jim Zorn, both born in 1953,are Snakes

Rich in wisdom and charm, people under this Chinese New Year zodiac are romantic and deep thinkers and their intuition guides them strongly. They say little and possess great wisdom. Chinese zodiac sign snake never have to worry about money; they are financially fortunate. Snake people are often quite vain, selfish, and a bit stingy. Snake people tend to overdo, since they have doubts about other people's judgment and prefer to rely on themselves

They are determined in whatever they do and hate to fail. Although calm on the surface, they are intense and passionate. Chinese zodiac sign snake are usually good-looking and sometimes have marital problems because they are fickle. The Snake would be most content as a teacher, philosopher, writer, psychiatrist, and fortuneteller.

Chinese zodiac snake are most compatible with the Ox and Rooster.

I just did this for fun.And the disclaimer with reading Horoscopes and looking at astrological and zodiac signs is purely for the entertainment value. But reading about the qualities that embody a Boar(Colt)-courage and honest. And a Snake(Coach Jones)Snake people tend to overdo, since they have doubts about other people's judgment and prefer to rely on themselves.Vain,selfish.(there are truths to each).

After studying the Chinese Zodiac signs, relating to the persona's of Colt and Coach Jones I see some similarities. But in doing so it was all in fun.

  313. Jason:

Hey everyone! Guess who I saw today while walking from Moanalua High to 99 Ranch Market with my friends — chawan_cut! I yelled at him, "What are you doing here?" He replied, "Holding up traffic!" :-)

I have a copy of Road to the Sugar Bowl. Although it originally sold for $19.95, it's now $5.00 from the UH Bookstore. It was published by Canada Hockey LLC, which appears to be owned by a guy named Mike Bynum of Birmingham, AL. Seems like he also published Canada's Quest for the Stanley Cup and Two roads to Badgers hockey heaven : the 2005-06 Wisconsin Badgers men's and women's hockey national championship seasons. The UH book contains pictures and stories from AP, USA Today, the NY Times, the Seattle Times, and Ka Leo. There's also a feature story on Colt by Chad Nielsen of ESPN the Magazine. Most of the photography is from a local freelance guy named Jordan Murph.

  316. al:

    ralvic,

while all that may seem to be of interest to some. please remember that colt is a Christian so astrology and Chinese zodiac will have no consequence to him.

  326. las vegas:

Weeeeel, now that you ask, traffic downtown was horrible.
The gay, lesbian and transvestites had a parade and milled about the 4th street area.

  327. whitey:

ok, time to hit the sack cause got game tomorrow at kahili gc.

  328. myki1:

Hi Jason, I've been to Shokudo twice and have enjoyed it. The food is quite interesting and delicious. It 's typically Japanese in that it feeds your eyes as well as your palate. Our server described it as "fusion" cuisine. A bit of Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

I can't remember the actual menu items but we especially enjoyed a mochi cheese au grautin dish, a tofu salad, an unagi rice dish, and a hamachi carpaccio dish among others. Our group chose to eat family style so that we could try several dishes. Some items were a bit pricey.

Let me know what you thought of the place.

hubby learned a valuable lesson today. You should never assume your CD will roll over to the highest interest rate if you do nothing. Instead of 3.5%, his CD got a 1.5% rate. When your CD matures, ALWAYS go to the bank in person to get the best rate and term possible.

  352. gigi-hawaii ©:

  363. al:

    too funny.

you do know that the yatta were gay right?
you are joking along aren't you gigi?

  364. gigi-hawaii ©:

so... that was NOT Vegas, then? Could've fooled me.

  365. al:

i believe vegas is a bit taller and has a normal sexual orientation.

    you're joking right?

  366. gigi-hawaii ©:

i tend to be literal, Al.
You can tell me the sky is falling and I'll believe you.

  367. gigi-hawaii ©:

you may be wondering why I am still awake.
The reason is that my clogged sinus prevents me from sleeping.
I feel doped up from all the meds I am taking.

No More Cloudy Days is my FAVE...

    hmmm...

  369. gigi-hawaii ©:

The copyright for The Perfect Season belongs to Honolulu Advertiser, per the copyright page. The writer -- Stephen Tsai -- was already paid because he received a salary when he wrote the stories. Same goes for the photographers.

So I guess no royalties for them.

  370. gigi-hawaii ©:

    That's just my educated guess.

  374. al:

people said you knocked em dead at the last karaoke call.

  375. gigi-hawaii ©:

possibly the remnant of a satellite? The sky holds a lot of junk.

  376. gigi-hawaii ©:

hey, isn't it late for you, Al? it is 1:30!

  377. al:

nah. i usually sleep around 2 am. i get a lot done when all's quiet. of course i get up a bit later than most folks or i take a power nap during the day.

  378. al:

btw, you guys need to look for some tax deferred investments instead of 2 % cd's. by the time you pay taxes on the interest you'll have made too little. you could get more than double what you're getting now and with the tax deferral your money will grow three times the cd.

  379. gigi-hawaii ©:

i can't breathe. this is torture.

    clogged sinus

  380. gigi-hawaii ©:

    my cds are all iras.

  381. gigi-hawaii ©:

our IRAs are on stocks, CDs, annuities. Plus hubby has a profit sharing plan at work.

  382. Esme:

al ... I think maybe there was a misunderstanding. They didn't say I "knocked 'em dead." They said I made them DEAF. !

  383. al:

cd's for ira's at your age is the worst return on investment.
there are two kinds of annuities variable or fixed. the variable is not guaranteed.

    okay lights out.

  384. las vegas:

I also have invested in CDs, mostly classic rock.

  385. al:

    esme.....you are too modest.
but, that is a very good quality in a person.

  386. al:

    eh, vegas
gigi said earlier that you were "da kine".

  387. las vegas:

btw Th eYatta guys are not gay, they are a bunch of comedians who originally did the Yatta song as a skit.

Hard Gay, the singer from YMCA is inspite of his name married to a real girl

  388. las vegas:

    Al,
I wave my limp wrist to you! tee hee heee

i friend of mine was in vegas a few weeks ago in early april and said that there were some days where the weather was in the 90's/

    what's up with that?

  391. Esme:

al, I'm not being falsely modest. I just believe that my so-called singing is less about talent, more about ... volume.

OK, lights out here too. Aloha, everyone!
