Can't skip the commercials
May 12th, 2008 by Stephen Tsai"Ferd" Lewis reports that the Warriors will fly commercial to Atlanta for the Florida game. They will stay in Atlanta for two days, then fly by charter to Florida. After the game, they fly by charter to Atlanta, then it's commercial back to Hawai‘i. Blame the collapse of Aloha and ATA for the unavailability of charter flights between Hawai‘i and the Mainland.

Shhhh.
This is finals week. UH's student-athletes are trying to study.
Besides tests and projects, this also is a stressful time. There's a week break before the start of Summer Session I. Students must move out and scramble for housing. The softball players who dorm must put their things in storage. The team leaves Tuesday.
* * *
It has been documented how the softball team overcame the loss of star pitcher Justine Smethurst, who decided to remain in Australia this semester, and pitcher Courtney Baughman, who has a shoulder injury.
But sometime last year, several UH teams were told the compliance department re-calculated the value of a UH scholarship. The way it works is that some sports are allowed to offer partial scholarships. For instance, let's say a program is allowed to divvy up 10 scholarships. If it is determined each scholarship is worth $15,000, then the program has $150,000 to give to its players in any amount. Some could get the cost of books ($500), some the cost of tuition. Under the re-calculations, the value of a UH scholarship was lowered. That meant programs like softball, golf, tennis, men's volleyball, etc., had a smaller scholarship pool. That is how the softball team, which lost two starters last year was only able to bring in one scholarship player.

Know UH's women's golf coach?
Too late.
Ashley Biffle announced her resignation.
At her team's postseason dinner.
Anyway, here's a video of the next golf coach:

May 12th, 2008 at 7:50 am
Ho! first?
May 12th, 2008 at 7:53 am
las vegas,
Mahalo for meeting me & my Mom in LV for lunch on Saturday. We had a mini-me mini-moo at Sweet Tomatoes, a buffet salad bar place, for those of us who want to be more mini than me.
If I can get off work, I might be able to make it to the softball game on Friday!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 7:54 am
Lowered the value of a scholarship. Gee, you'd think it increase, given the state of our economy. Well gas anyway!!!
Gigi and Kekoa for UH golf coach!
May 12th, 2008 at 8:03 am
Great suggestion, Duffer.
I posted the video of the next golf coach.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:11 am
ST - do you think that will be the new style of uniform for the golf team??
May 12th, 2008 at 8:11 am
I wonder if they are taking away scholarship money from the "lesser" programs to give to the basketball and football scholarships.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:13 am
haha ST, tanks, brah! I really wish I could golf like Kekoa and Swing. They have awesome swings.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:13 am
I heard Under Armour is coming up with a sports muumuu.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Word to da wise: I buy all my muus from Sears.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:15 am
No, they're not taking from one sport to give to another.
Football, the two basketballs and women's volleyball all get full scholarships that may not be divided.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:15 am
sorry Kekoa and STRETCH.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:17 am
Now, if we only can get Gigi to bowl ...
May 12th, 2008 at 8:17 am
I hope the UA muumuu is free fllowing and NOT skin tight. I wouldn't even want to think about it.....
May 12th, 2008 at 8:19 am
It would be easy for gi-gi to bowl in a mu'u mu'u... can color-coordinate the bowling shoes.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:20 am
I should have taken the camera to bowling and you would have seen UHFan808's textbook form. It is almost like a golfer who hits a good shot, posing with the club over the shoulder, watching the ball. Everything looks good, the results, well......
May 12th, 2008 at 8:21 am
I wii-bowl. Does that count?
May 12th, 2008 at 8:26 am
If you love sports and what it brings to people, this is worth donating for.
http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008805120351
I was born an raised on the Big Island (Pahoa) and I tell you, to make states is a VERY VERY big accomplishment for that school. Those kids have soo much against them..not just the funding for the school, perception of the people there, and crap from everyday life. I'm going to call a lot of favors (Going to ask my GM too) and try to help them out. If anyone cares to help, please call Coach Marzo (808)936.0456
I know I can't even be considered a regular poster and here I am asking for people to help...but thank you very much.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:29 am
studying? there sure were a lot of people out on Saturday night though.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Tsai-Meister,
Something doesn't seem fair about the scholarship divide. Could you expound a little what the reason for this unfairness may be, vs the other "main sports"? Is that an NCAA rule or is it up to the schools? The Soft Ball team deserves at least as much as the Bolla disaster, but that's just my amateur opinion.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:39 am
Re: Scholarships
I hope when calculating the scholarship total dollar amount, they use the out of state tuition. How can the dollar amount go down when tuition is rising, food cost more, books cost more and housing cost more?? Maybe we should live where the compliance department does, cost of living seems to be going down there.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:52 am
Kind of an update, I just got off the phone with Coach Marzo and he said that everyone from the community has been helping out. With that said, he estimates that they only need less then $1k dollars now ($700ish to be more exact). He welcomes people who want to donate, but DOES NOT and WILL NOT accept more then they need. Thanks to all if you called to help out.
Damn, its time to return home...for good. Real proud of them 'Daggers'!!
Hail to our school that we love so dear...
Always in its name shall we revere...
Oh my the spirit never die...
Hail to our school...Pahoa!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Hey! Are you making fun of my golf swing?
May 12th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Good morning Tsaikos...great time Saturday..thanks ....
Stretch - I too noticed UH808's form...good bowling technique...now if only I had a form like that...mwahahahahahahahah
boy, and midori7 is ultra-competitive....I was like a chihuahua and she was like the pit bull....just kidding....bwahahahahaha
Mr. A-House - next time I gotta try and finesse da ball to make it go left.....
Peaches - thanks for bowling for me until I could get there......you added mucho points to my first score....
D1/Mrs D1/Koakane/Addahknowjoe - I still wating for my onion rings...I tink should be grown by now and ready for batter.....Bwahahahahahahahahahaha
May 12th, 2008 at 9:18 am
Stretch - I agree. It seems strange that the figures for schollies would go down with rising costs everywhere. I wonder what kind of math the compliance office uses?
and if they had to be lowered, that means they were too high last time around. Did they give too much scholarship money out last year? Questions, Questions, questions.....
GO WARRIORS!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:19 am
gigi - I've heard UA is indeed making a UH muu muu....not skin tight but more of a flowing lycra type material that can be used outdoors for golfing, tailgates, tsaiko parties.....
May 12th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Wow...4 posts in a row...
May 12th, 2008 at 9:26 am
James, will the UA muu be uni-sex? haha guys should wear muus. Veddy comfy!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:29 am
gigi - good idea, that will provide good ventilation
May 12th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Watch out James. LizK is the consecutive posting police, you might get cited. I personally enjoyed every bit of your 4 for 4.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:55 am
The power of ONE.
I think gigi is rewriting history here. From first lesson to video superstar and college coach in less than 24 hours!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:55 am
CAN YOU KEEP IT DOWN, I'M TRYING TO STUDY HERE. GEEZ!
Quick post before I get ready for the first final of doom.
gigi: You are Annika Sörenstam to David's Jean Van de Velde.
Esme: Ack, I've been busy with studying for finals, I forgot to wish you a Happy Mother's Day too! I'm so sorry! I'll make it up you, Nanay, I promise.
*clears throat*
Happy belated Mother's Day to you
Happy belated Mother's Day to you
Happy belated Mother's Day, dear Nanay Esme
Happy belated Mother's Day to you
May 12th, 2008 at 10:06 am
do i sense that the curse of the fumbler(and cronies) will haunt the program for years to come?
over valuing the scholarships in the past will/does hurt all existing programs except football and basketball. ummmm. perhaps women's volleyball will not be affected not sure on that one.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Congrats to Coach Gigi. She will revolutionize the UH golf program with her aforementioned Uni-Muu.
Her laid back style of coaching will lull their opponents to sleep, thus allowing her girls to ramp up their game and breeze by them. Very crafty this wahine!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:08 am
ua muumuu?
no. thats just wrong!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:13 am
james,
you sound as if you have a cold.
you better call in "sick" tomorrow.
then i'll take you somewhere where the seaweed soup will help cure your ailments.
oh. and they also serve lots of nourshing foods with chili pepper paste to burn off the cold. not too mention the overload of garlic.
the beef, chicken, and pork will also be so fresh since you have to cook your own as you like it. as long as you don't sit next to a grill hog(like a certain "kid") you will be able to replenish the nutrients your body needs to get well.
please consider it "doctor's orders".
May 12th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Stretch-
Cool videos of Gigi and Hubby. Yeah, I guess it's worth the fifty bucks...bwahahaha.
Gigi-
Proud of you guys. Keep practicing. If you can make consistent contact with the ball that's a good start. I've seen people miss the ball entirely....consistently.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:16 am
Kekoa-
Awesome job, Coach.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:16 am
i nominate kekoa as golf's man of the year.
what courage!
what patience!
what .............!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:16 am
sports, yep, I've done that too -- hit the air! Thank god Stretch didn't capture that on video.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:16 am
XxFaithxX-
I'm a Ka'u alumna but, am always proud to see any Big Island team represent.
In the 70's, there used to be a small schools basketball tournament. Pahoa made it in when the tournament was held in Hilo. (May have taken the tournament) In '84, the baseball team made it to states small schools tourney and did well. Won it all if I'm not mistaken.
In the fall of '82, Pahoa assembled their first football team under Wayne Yamauchi. For two years they lost every game. Their third season suffered the same fate but, everyone in the league could tell, they were much improved and were on the brink of putting it all together. Two weeks before we played them, Pahoa got crushed by Konawaena, 86-0. The media were all over Konawaena for running up the score. Pahoa's coach Okabe said no, we don't want people easing up on us. It's our job to stop them. The following week Pahoa beat St. Joe for their first win in school history. That victory ended what then was the longest losing streak in the nation. The news made CNN! Unbelievable! Suffice to say, the following week Pahoa beat Ka'u. (Whew! Thank God they beat St. Joe first and not us)
In whatever sport, Pahoa has always been laden with talent. I hope the success this years volleyball team achieves spills over into other sports and the community to demonstrate that there's no excuse- Pahoa can and will achieve success!
I Mua Pahoa!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:18 am
that was amazing really.
i gotta ask gigi how she hit the ball while lying down.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:19 am
gigi
i heard that certain videos will be made public at the next blog bash event.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:21 am
yeah Stretch, how come the videos are sideways? funny kine camera!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Al, the videos are so short that if people blink, they will miss da whole ting.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Jason ~
Is this the same "mother" who was out on the party circuit this past Saturday while her abandoned, starving student son was cramming for exams?
I'm not surprised. The woman is a brazen hus...well you know the type. We've sheltered you too much. With your birthday coming soon, you'll be able to get past all this.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:28 am
but.....way to go gigi!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Gigi-
The sideways video doesn't make that hook look too bad, actually. But then, I didn't tilt my head all the way left.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:59 am
al...
I know the doctor is ordering me to stay home tomorrow...but....that will be hard to do...I appreciate the offer though...maybe next week...ha ha ha
May 12th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Quick post before heading off to work - how can we really support the Wahine in Arizona this weekend?
Is anyone going to Arizona who can blog the games for us if they're not going to be broadcast on ESPN1420? Stephen: will you be going or do we have to rely on some generic reports coming in off the "wire"?
The posted game times are several hours before the Bowsball games which start at 6:35 local time.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:05 am
gigi - I'm impressed. You are real nimble for a 99 year old!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Since you asked.... I didn't have the wide lens camera so had to turn it to the side. uh oh... am I in trouble now?!?!? HAHAHAHA
May 12th, 2008 at 11:06 am
Hey al, now's your chance to ask! BTW, how is your golf game?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Hi and bye sez I, honey do list means that I gotta fly. Bye!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:11 am
DPK - somehow your fly bye's are not as good as Esme's. But by all means, complete your list. You can't beat the rewards.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:12 am
gigi - I think I will have to charge you royalties everytime someone views your video. It's been up only one hour and it has been viewed more than 200 times!!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:14 am
Stretch - I got seasick watching it. Now I have a kink in my neck.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Stretch, that's amazing considering I am not a porn star!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:16 am
homey.....you imp!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Now homey will really throw up and not due to being seasick!!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Doc:
Nope. I'm grounded. I'll be in Hawai‘i during the Regionals.
But UH does post live updates on the Web.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:18 am
james....no worry we will, again, partake of your share.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:18 am
gigi.....WHAT are you talking about?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:19 am
and no forget the cattle call tomw
camellia's mccully
1130
tsai.....you hungry?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Is that the shadow playing tricks on the arms or does Ms. Gigi have some guns?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Al:
I'm always hungry.
I was at Camelia's with the family on Saturday.
Quite good.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Eh, ST.....was you in that muumuu taking a swing at the golf ball?? sure looks like you from the sideways. bwaaahahaha!!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:24 am
I read today in the dallas morning news that, Jeff rinebold? is SMU's recievers coach now. I forgot, but wasn't he a line coach at UH?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:25 am
al - See you tomorrow!
Stretch - It's not like I haven't visited grannies.com.
ST - When does Princess Leila make her video reappearance?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:26 am
delayed reaction:
that was an interesting video
May 12th, 2008 at 11:29 am
mctruck - Looks like Jeff is a jack of all trades when it comes to coaching football positions. I wouldn't be surprised if he also has the power to offer scholarships.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:30 am
jojo - see you tomorrow
May 12th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Homey:
Princess Leila and the rest of our union-friendly staff return to the video room on May 20. Not sure which videos are posting now. I ignore them.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:46 am
i would never ask that question #64.
....
me too.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:51 am
ST - I don't watch them too! I'm just waiting for the day Princess Leila posts "new video is up".
I think the tekkies should give us a daily status report of items they fixed, modified, or enhanced. I'm like you in that WTF is the neighborhood reports doing in the sports section.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Those guns come from carrying a stack of books and a violin case to and from Roosevelt High every day.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Scholarship value:
How does one arrive at the "value"? - what factors are used to determine that? - is location a factor? - why does the value decrease? I can see it increasing, but decreasing? - what they hay!!
Can "boosters", individually or collectively, provide funds through a "non-profit" that can give dollars to student-athletes at any time during a school year in the form of a special scholarship?
Someone inferred not to long ago, that athletic programs at the "rich/powerful schools" receive additional funds so they are not concerned by the limited number of scholarship set by the NCAA. Any truth in this?
Do they pay attorneys to study the NCAA rules and find ways around it.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:55 am
do I have to reserve my place for tomorrow? and who will cook for me anyhow? I only know how to burn things...
May 12th, 2008 at 11:55 am
al - now that I viewed the video for the 20-something time, I conclude that gigi indeed has guns. Can you imagine how far the ball will go once she gets her timing down and makes solid contact!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:57 am
jojo - A-Sports is a great cook. She makes plenty smoke!
May 12th, 2008 at 11:59 am
homey, do my guns outmatch your guns?
May 12th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
gigi - I bow in you presence...I hope to be like you when I'm 99.
Anyway, my guns are water pistols. I once challenged Jason in arm wrestling and he let me use two arms!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
jojo--you sit next to the kid and pick off his food from the grill since you won't have any room for your stuff anyway.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
addahknowjoe,
Thanks for the support. Its good to know that at least the Big Island peoples feel the same way...gotta stick together, ya.
Coach Wilfred Okabe was my P.E. teacher and his wife was a teacher at Pahoa too for a number of years. She eventually transferred to Waiakea.
Yeah, Pahoa has had some success in the HS ranks like you mentioned.
Softball has been to states numerous times. The Kajiyamas were/are great coaches (Auntie Pearl and uncle Darryl) Mostly during the early 90’s.
Football like you mentioned, under Coach Okabe, had a decent amount of success in the early to mid-eighties. Unfortunately after that, due to lack of bodies, the team was dis-banded…just before I became a freshman. To my knowledge, there was an attempt(s) to revive it, but the kids are just not into it. Not that much school pride there because we are kind of neglected….,but I won’t get into that here.
Baseball in the mid-eighties and a little of the early 90’s went to states, but once again, the disparity in support and talent ( most students who excel in sports and or academics transfer to other schools….) proved to be something hard to overcome. Coach (Uncle)Frank Degele was/is a great coach, but he got burned out just a few years ago. My sister was his statistician and my father volunteered a lot up until a handful of years ago.
Basketball also had its hayday in the eighties ( During that time, there was a lot of multi-sports athletes, the Pachecos, Salazars, Shimabukuros, etc.…I know all of this because I went to a lot of the games due to my brother and sister who graduated in the eighties ) and of course the past handful of years they have had some success too (dem filipino boys can ball =) ).
Track not soo much. I played during my freshman year, but there was always as lack of bodies. Soccer was always popular with the haoles there ( a lot of kids from hippies lol ). The only winning season we had was my senior year when myself and about 6 other classmates decided to play…we were a rough and tumble bunch...taking on all those schools who always ragged us ..was good times lol, especially when we beat them!
Sorry for spamming you all..now back to the work grind. Aloha
P.S. Wish your ala mater good luck, esp when you go against the big schools!!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
homey,
i think the videos that up now are being borrowed from kgmb. i don't watch them either.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
homey
i'll refrain from comment. that way i'll stay out of trouble, last time i chimed in with you i was crucified--guilt by association. i didn't even get a fair trial.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
oooh, I get choice people to sit by! Ok, I'm there. Is 1130 the starting time or the congregate time?
May 12th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
OK. I'm committed.
Just made the plane reservations for da Swamp game.
on the 26th of August arriving at 11:35PM. The US Air flt departs on the 27th at 7:55AM so there might be time for a "midnight call" somewhere in there
(ack!)
The US Air "free" trip from the NOLA bump was unavailable so I had to take the $200 discount.
I'm flying in to Las Vegas
Coming home, I arrive back in Las Vegas at 10:49PM on Sept. 1st. and will be praying to get on the 2:30 AM flight back to HNL (this leg is standby)!!!
If not, I may have a few more Kau Kau Kalls opportunities with las vegas!
Hey, las vegas! Hope to meet you soon!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
videos?
HA don't got no videos til the Princess comes back!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Doc- I think Mei Ling is going to try to be the representative Tsai-ko for the Softball Tournament.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
If I go the the Wahine Softball game on Friday, I could text msg. someone with the scores. No way to send dynamic updates to the blog. Gotta find out if I can take a vacation day...
May 12th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I give you credit, Liz. You're a die-hard fan!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
jojo
people start eating as soon as they get there.
homey for example.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Kymry says:
FYI...in case you or anyone you know are $50 deposit holders for season tickets this year...you will be able to purchase away game tickets before they go on sale to the general public (if there are any left). I just spoke to the ticket office manager and they said to download the forms on line at: http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/Ticket/22008-fb-away.html and fax the forms in (fax # on the forms) but note on the form you are a $50 deposit holder and you will be placed on the waitlist for tickets before they sell to the general public.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
afternoon gang!
hey jojo - happy belated moms day
gigi - nice swing, you must have a good coach, i thought you had to wear a collared shirt to play golf?
i hope someone either televises or does radio play by for the Wahine regionals
May 12th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
MeiLing- if you have no other contact, you can text me and I can try to relay to the blog. Depends on the time of day. (that will be fun!)
May 12th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
gigi- Diehads, yup!
So are Kymry and her gang and bhf2!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Hi folks! I'm eating school lunch at work today and tomorrow. Someday maybe jojo will sit with me at Camellia and help burn my favorite spicy pork. Every time I try, they keep changing the burner plate or turn down the flames.
Tip: If you don't want to see Al's Zatoichi-like chopsticks picking off your food, cook the spicy pork...
May 12th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
hey SteveM - looks like most of the gang on lunch break, so hows the school lunch? probably much better then back in the old days
btw, thanks for the list on the last post, amazing how many posters have visited this never ending tailgate party
May 12th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
al - crucified? C'mon, stand together and we can take down DPK!
Anyone wanna bet jojo has an excuse for not showing up tomorrow?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
okay.....homey.
if jojo shows up....you eat with only one chopstick.
if jojo no show up...i'll use only one fork.
and jojo, i know where you live.

May 12th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
off to work now.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
homey - it matters if jeje picks her up from work to come lunch. I don't think they made it to the restaurant the last time. Good thing al set up lunch at 1130 and not "noon" so she shoudl have no excuse.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
hi xs-homey - long time, no see!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Hi Loa. Gotta get the 411 on you someday
Yeah, ever since the metaphoric full moon battle ensign was raised over the blog ship last year, it has been a never-ending party and national community center. If the blue torpedoes don't sink us, it has already done a lot of damage. But it's good to see some missing friends posting once in a while...with them, we'll survive.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
XLiz - How come? Playing blindfold games again?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Stretch - I don't know about them 2. Always gotta go home for something...
May 12th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
that's a new term, "something".
May 12th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
eh! I'll be there! Without jeje. It's his fault, that we're late, or we get lost!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
jojo- way to skip over the innuendos!
bwahahaha!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
xs-homey... I was looking at and posting the new pix of my moopuna!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
yep, I can vouch for dat. It was jeje's fault dat they were late for my wii party. (He was out hiking and forgot da time.)
May 12th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Well, UH is going commercial to Florida.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Just to make sure: We're talking McCully, right?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Terrible news, ST! The team will be exhausted.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
LizK,
You have my email. Send me your cell phone #; I'll em you mine. I have to see if I can get out of a mtg. on Friday. UH is playing at 1:30 pm your time, 4:30 pm AZ time. It's a 2-hr drive down to PHX, little more to get to Tempe & find parking. Maybe I can get out for the afternoon from work.
D-Backs are playing Detroit at 6:40 pm; I could make it a double-header evening! I would rather see Colorado or SF, but those games are in the middle of the week.
Hope you get to meet las vegas during your lay-overs. We had a really nice lunch at Sweet Tomatoes. I ate a heaping plate of salad stuff & didn't feel guilty.
Tsai-ko sized buffet at Spice Market in Planet Hollywood! Went w/ my 'ohana on Friday night. I "behaved" ~ picked out the king crab leg meat & made myself a crab louie salad for my second plate. Uuummmm!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Oh my God...
Commercial?!?!??!!!!????
May 12th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
ah. come on now jd. can't we work this all out?
that's too long a stretch to go commercial vs charter. won't the guarantee cover the charter?
a 767 could handle with one pit stop.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Re: Flying Commercial
That's going to suck. No more seats in between players, waiting around the airport during layovers...
Is this the only game they will fly commercial?? I hope they can work something out with one of the airlines to go charter. Doesn't Alaska Air fly the 737 to Hawaii??
May 12th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
back to work for me, but....

commercial? bummas, hope no more delays or maybe go early since the first game
ho boy jeje getting bashed
May 12th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
yes mccully right.
it will be most amusing to see homey eat with one chopstick!
should i bring a video camera to go along with the gigi's inauguaral golf swings. we could start collecting the "funniest tsako videos". starting or ending with the sleeping lion.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
chawan......you coming tomw?
can we put leila's tab on yours?
it would be almost a date......
May 12th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Stretch - According to gigi the new term is "hiking".
Commercial flight huh. When are they leaving, the beginning of the week?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
LizK:
We arrive in LV about the same time, but in different terminals - we will be at Terminal #2 on the Hawaiian flight.
We will look for you on 9/1 as we are booked on the 2:40a flight back to HNL.
Also, at the "swamp" tsaiko tailgate with BHFan, including you, and Florida Ted.
HIlo Greg said he wil not make the trip.
Any other Tsaiko going to the Swamp? Please let SteveM know so he can add you to the "travel group".
May 12th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
The team flies commercial... whew.
Hope it's not pinball commercial! OTOH, maybe we'll be on the same flight part way!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Loa - only the women are bashing jeje.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
xs-homey- according to Loa, now it's called "getting bashed" ... hmmm.
A-House- OK! Will pray to be joining you on the way home! Looking forward to the T-Gator too!
I will probably drive or check on a bus from Pensacola to Gainesville. Gotta see my mom and sis who live near Cola!
Ok. MeiLing. Friday sounds like a plan! Will email.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
BRING IT ON!!!
If it's gonna be that way then so be it!
2008 was not going to be easy, it's started out rough then got better and leveled out for now. The same goes with this season.
DA**IT!! BRING IT ON!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Wow Kazz! I feel like to season has started already!!!
WOO HOO!
GO WARRIORS!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
XLiz - Cute baby pics!
May 12th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Can you imagine if the Warrior uniforms somehow get lost on it's way to Florida.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
homey - yeah and they will have to use the same boxers for a few days. somehow that story sounds familiar....
May 12th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
homey, liz - lmffao, lets see if i got this now, something = hiking = getting bashed?
getting one headache already trying to keep up with the lingo, hey i just learned what lmao means
watch out Kazz is getting pumped, i can hear bighilo in the background coming
May 12th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Re: Charters
I wonder if it is possible for the team to fly commercial to the west coast somewhere, then take a charter flight the rest of the way?? It will minimize layover times. There has to be more options to fly charter on the mainland than there is from Hawaii.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
loa - didn't you know having a headache is the worst excuse for "something - hiking - or getting bashed"??
May 12th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Stretch - and some of them, well most of them, will still look good in store bought UA.
My motto - Be prepared, you never know when you may get something, go hiking, or get bashed.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
SteveM,
gigi and hubby will attend the June 19 bash for Ronnie and Rich. What time will dinner be served? At 5 pm or much later?
That will determine when hubby leaves work.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
homey - it's always good to take the raincoat when you go hiking
May 12th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
i wonder if there are any out there that know what stretch is telling homey?
May 12th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
stretch - maybe thats why i've been getting headaches, i thought was from not enough sleep, (just joking honey)
May 12th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
stretch & homey - thanks for the ab workout today, grace pacific time, laterz
May 12th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Loa- bwahahaha!
ok...
I agree - good ab workout
May 12th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Commercial? Well, that royally sucks !! I sure hope they leave very early, if not, there's no way around the jet-lag and they will be at a disadvantage right away.
Tsai-Meister,
Any word on when they will leave? I don't know what the NCAAA allows, but I hope they'll leave at least eight days before game day.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
My bad. The softball team leaves tomorrow. No mo' flights Wednesday.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
hmmm. it would cost me $100 RT to take a 9 hour bus ride from Pensacola to Orlando to hook up with bhf2. $150 to rent a car for 3 days.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Yea! gigi and Mr. gigi are coming to the Rich and Ronnie K-Call!
May 12th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
ST - You probably mentioned it many blog topics ago, but who does the scrambling to make all the travel arrangements for the UH teams? Especially when teams, like the softball team, find out where they are playing in a regional.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
As one who recently did the HNL-MCO jaunt, IMHO homey is right, they better leave at or near the beginning of the week. Jet lag was my concern for the team even when a charter flt was in the mix, but moreso now that it looks like the plan is for a commercial flt!
Figuring in check-ins, security checks, lay-overs, etc, from the time I rolled out of my driveway to dropping on the bed in the hotel room (which is all you want to do, believe me) we're talking about a 15 to 16 hour Odyssey. And that's with no hiccups along the way. Yikes!
Talk about a tough row to hoe!
May 12th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Florida Ted,
I see we are thinking along the same lines re: the commercial flt issues.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
And all this is not even taking into account what the loss of 100 or so seats going there at that time is gonna do to the fares for the average fan.
Lucky you, Liz to have made your resv. this morning!
May 12th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
d1shima,
We both had the hard reality experience, lol.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Flying RT from Pensacola to Orlando and back would be $475!!!! YIKES!
May 12th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Since I've finally been bitten by the IE blue background bug, and I'm not sure how long this will take to post, I thought I would say everything at once (please pardon the long post)
First, and foremost, Happy belated Mother’s Day to all of the Tsaiko moms! I hope you all had a great mother’s day.
Congratulations to the Softball Team! I wish I could be there in Arizona to cheer them on. Hopefully MeiLing will get the day off – and maybe even bring some friends to cheer for our team.
I can’t believe that the football team has to fly commercial to Florida. It takes a full day from the west coast. Does this mean they can leave ten days before the game to make sure they have enough time to get acclimated to the time change, weather, etc…? I like the idea of flying commercial to the west coast and charter from there. Is that possible?
I can’t wait to get home! Dinner on the 19th is going to be great! I’m trying to convince some of my family to go too.
Davone goes to Miami for his next mini camp this Friday. I hope he keeps on shining.
And finally, as I mentioned, I was finally bitten, last week, by the blue screen bug! It now takes me an average of 2-5 minutes to refresh my screen! I have even resorted to installing Firefox, which seems to have helped, once the initial load completed – which took about 4 minutes. If this keeps up, how are we ever going to have a chat guest? They will only have 5 questions to answer. Are the template designers local? I ask because I noticed other Gannett paper sites using the same template with different color schemes. Are we the only paper having these problems – or do none of their other papers have such an active blog?
May 12th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
But as Kazz says, if that's the way it's to be, so be it.
As a great American once said, "Fight. Fight. Fight. I'm with ya!"
May 12th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Stephen,
Is there any decision yet re: travel arrangements for the other road games?
May 12th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Excellent, gigi! i will call you just to make sure this is you posting
Seriously though, if the buffet option happens, we will announce the time frame...likely after 6:00. If you are "ala carte", the food is whenever and whatever you want to order. I'll check the survey when I get home for your choice. It is possible to have people attending under either option.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Or as one local braddah would put it:
"TRY YOU F**A, KEEP IT UP!!! SEE WHAT KONNA HAPPEN!"
May 12th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
XLiz - Tell bhf2 to pick you up.
dishima - with all this take about something, hiking and getting bashed, I thought you wrote "one tough hoe to row".
May 12th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
xs-homey... somehow I don't think he's gonna wanna spend his whole trip being my chauffeur... but now that you mention it... hmmm.
nah nah nah nah...
hiho~!
May 12th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Kazz,
That's the spirit, lol.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
homey....back in the day. what color raincoat you had yellow, army green, or see thru?
i know the see thru kind more thin. some prefer that. others just want the protection so they take the jpo yellow kind.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
whoa....kazz you flirting with the "smuud" effect.
calm down boy. talk to papa al.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
A peek into the mind of homey as he furthers his "Astronomy" studies.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
al - my raincoat of choice back in the day was sheepskin.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
oh ronnie.....really looking forward to meeting with you.
i keep thinking of veronica in the archie comics whenever i hear your name.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
omg...
May 12th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
homey, al and d1 - please hold off from further conversation for 4 days 21 hours. we still have minors in the house.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
If I were them, and having to travel commercial, I would wear all the gear on the plane to make sure they arrive with me.
But while I can easily say "eh, no mattah, as long as we get there, etc..." because I don't have to sit in a cramped airline and face the risks of delays, long layovers, crying babies, and pilau people, I just BELIEVE that the WARRIORS WILL OVERCOME because...
THEY ARE THE WARRIORS OH YEAH... IF YOU DON'T EM' DEY NOKEA.... CAUSE DA LAU LAU'S SO FIIIIINE... LOCAL BRADDAHS KNOW HOW FO' DINE....
DEY REPRESENT THE "H-ISLES" THEY LIVE TO BRING THAT WARRIOR PRIDE... DEY HOLD THEIR HEADS TO THE SKY... UH NOT GOING BEG AND CRY
THEY ARE THE WARRIORS OH YEAAAHHHH, IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM THEY DON'T CARE, 'CAUSE THEY'RE FEELIN' SO FIIIIIINE, PLEASE DON'T WASTE THEIR TIME!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Stretch,
Does that mean I can't mention the "ventilated" raincoats?
Doh! too late!
May 12th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Al,
I calmed down... it always helps to sing.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Big fires raging in Florida right now... yikes...

May 12th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
James - Yeah, many have mistaken me for Kazz. In fact brew thought he saw me in the group photo at the scrimmage. The one where everyone is on the field.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
homey - Kazz was there? I thought that was mojo....bwahahahahahaaha
Just kidding to Kazz and Mojo....
May 12th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
200..Whoopee...
May 12th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
You gotta be kidding me, commercial from Honolulu to Florida? I can barely get through a flight from HNL to LAX, and I'm only Tsaiko-small.
Did I hear something about gigi and porn videos? Are we sure homey and gigi haven't met before?
One final down, two to go. Gotta run, see you all later.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
huh?
May 12th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Jason - And what would the title of the movie be? "Behind the Senior Citizen's Door"?
May 12th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
your comment at #57
May 12th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Why don't you ask James — isn't he the producer?
May 12th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Whoa Jason...no talk like dat to your elders....mwahahahahahaaha

May 12th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
So I star in 1 movie called "The Golfer" and you are seeing me in other kinds of movies?
May 12th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
That's what makes Hawaii so special. haha
May 12th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Was also thinking about the "exit strategy" being altered by flying commercial.
Blows if the team cannot get outta town until the next day and have to cut into prep time for the next game. it's also a lo---ng trip back.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Good afternoon Tsaikos. Good to see that all of you are in fine spirits. I, like others, am confused about how the Warriors are traveling to FL. Game was agreed on sometime back (had plenty time to plan) and only now they finalize their flight plans? Planning a long trip like this is not something you wait on and I said that over 2 months ago that you are asking for troubles. IMHO, you could have flown commercial to Vegas, then charter from there. Plus you could have worked with the Boyd Gaming group (R Wallace) about the overnight room. UH wants to go big time, then you got to start thinking big time.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
For the Tsaikos going to cc tomorrow with al, be sure to congratulate him cause on Mother's Day, he became grandpa for 7 new "kids".
May 12th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
5 boys and 2 girls
May 12th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
what is tomorrow?
May 12th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
I don't know their name except for one of the boys and I think his name is Hershey or Hershel.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
nah.....no can hershey. thats the name of a very famous chocolate.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Also wondering about the travel plans for the other games.
Flying to/from PDX, not bad.
SLC, not bad.
BOI, bad. Can you say Turbo prop?
FAT, bad. Anything to do with Fresno, bad.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
My bad.
Leaving Fresno, not bad.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Right Arm Whitey!...Think Big!...that's the ticket.
Now, whatever happen to Doris Duke's big private jet that used to sit at HNL waiting to take her anywhere in the world. Now that she is no longer of this planet, what happened to that bird? That woman knew how to travel!
It's time to start seriously considering rent-to-own/leasing/or out right buying a plane for the UH. There's enough sporting events to keep that bird in the air year round. What would the cost be vs what we are paying now? How do you compute the fringe benefits of getting there and back in one shot with all your players, coaches, equipment and stuff? Other University football teams have them, why not us? We have no option of using a bus.
Something we should ask JD about. Anything is possible if we plan it out right.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
al,
what tab are we talking about? i'm lost...
May 12th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

May 12th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Oops, sorry, I thought I was on the WarriorBeat, didn't realize I stumbled on the set of 'Animal House', lol.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
ok, maybe not Hershey, but how's about Ghiradelli?
May 12th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I can't escape my finals tomorrow and join you guys, but that's okay, I get great Korean food early — Mom is making spicy pork for dinner.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Al ~ Did you say that one of the pups is chocolate colored?
How 'bout the name "Brown Sugar?" In Hawaiian, the translation would be Kapa'a Ula Ula. Shorten to "Kapa'a" for his first name...Ula Ula can be his last name..Bow Wow, ladat!
May 12th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Kekoa, am not trying to put down UH travel plans, but they knew they would be going to play FL in 2007 and date was set (time wasn't), so why wasn't plans finalized by January? Plus would have saved tremendous amount of money. In a way, this is making me think that UH is just going there to play, get their bees kicked, and come home and say that they played a national power. In other words, a game of this magnitude should be given very high priority and to help the coaches and players get ready for this game, they shouldn't be thinking about the travel plans, but how to prepare for the game. Everything tangible for the team should have been done or is in the final stages, so the team can concentrate on their game.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
kekoa, could take it one step further on the name, Molasses! Hahahahaaaaaaahhhhhh! Mo a---.
al, you some lucky to have friends like us.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
am glad mrs al don't read the blog otherwise i in trouble.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Al ~ I had a very aggressive German Shepherd years ago that was the rascal of the litter. Named him "Kapu" 'cause he showed signs of being the type of dog that would make sure you kept away from his domain. Uncanny. He really lived up to that name.
It's too bad dogs have such a short life span.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
witey, from the way Coach Mack was talking to us during the Ohana festival, I do not think the Warriors are planning to visit the swamp and act like deer in the headlights. The memories of the whomping the last time a long trip was made in that direction still stings and I think we will be better prepared for reality.
My concern is that the green shirts in the stands will not represent 1/3 of the entire stadium so those going should be prepared to:
Practice our best - don't even think of going there or your juju is juiced - stink-eye,
Go ahead, make my day- samurai - Godzilla strut,
Smile politely- but carry a big Ti Leaf mojo and
SCREAM FOR DA TEAM!
May 12th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
whitey,
I think that as Stephen indicated, the plan was probably to have included a charter via Aloha that suddenly went bye-bye. From his statement perhaps ATA was the Plan B?
I think, though that your assessment of the other part of it may be dead on. What started out as a vigorous logistical exercise to support the former coach's desire to match wits with his golf buddy has turned into a travel agent's nightmare.
Seems like another thing The Idiot left as part of his legacy. Why no return visit for this game? Weak!
May 12th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
whitey - I see what you're saying. This is now. We knew then. Why wait until late. So many viable options you've mentioned could have been laid on, and then tweaked as we got closer to travel day.
ST who's the travel director of this route-step outfit anyway? What are the plans for the rest of the travel schedule, and is it too late to make better arrangements instead of throwing in the towel?
May 12th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
al,
Name the puppies after the Tsai-kos. Duffer sounds like a nice name, so does whitey....
May 12th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
al- how about "cha-su-bow" or "kolohe-gurl". How many you plan on keeping? Are they papered? If the answers are none and no- let the new families pick da names
May 12th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Liz,
Wow, IDK but in some neighborhoods a name like that would just DOOM the little buggah!
May 12th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

May 12th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Kate Robinson has agreed to write a journal for us.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
al,
someone else can catch the tab for me...
May 12th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Stephen- cool news about Robinson, mahalo!
Have you heard from any of our former Warriors now getting some mini-camp experience???
Jiggety jig!
May 12th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
i appreciate every ones' imagination on the names.
we are keeping only one, choco female.
the rest have homes already.
so just working on the one name.
i always wanted to name my daughter "mahealani" but got overruled by the boss. perhaps i'll win this one. mahe for short.
i kind of like "truffles" too.
one of the pups is on the white/cream color side. but, whitey a girl. nah.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Al,
Kanani = beautiful
May 12th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Kate Robinson is Kate Robinson and we all know what she can do, but I wonder how much time will Jessica Morton get.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Liz:
I had to go to school today, so I didn't get a chance to speak with RGM.
I also left a message with Colt. I found a bunch of programs I was going to send him.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Re: Commercial.
As it turns out, it's commercial to Atlanta, then charter to Florida. Charter from Florida to Atlanta, and then commercial all the way back to Honolulu.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
ST,
non-stop to Atlanta then non-stop back to HNL? If so, not that bad.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Stephen,
Could you ask colt about the Lego??? heh... Thanks!
I know he's had a whirlwind last couple of months. Hopefully things slow down a little now that he's rehabilitating and doesn't have to stress too much about combines and workouts and the draft.
BTW, how do the early exits of RGM & Bess affect the APR? (Sorry if this question was asked before)
May 12th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Kekoa - great idea in Post #220.
Does anyone need road game tix? We won't be using the benefit so we can buy them for Tsaikos who will be going on the road.
Liz: How long is the busride? Long-haul buses are very nice and very cheap. Is there train service that far south?
Eat heartily tomorrow. Off to another meeting.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Chawan:
UH takes a one-point hit each for RGM and Bess.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Of the other departures, somebody might be costing UH a two-point hit.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
My friend named his dog, "Taxi." Made for an interesting scene every time he gave out a loud whistle and called for his little buddy.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
homey at 70. brilliant, just brilliant.
and who might that genius (220) be who said everything is possible if we plan it right? yep, kekoa.
like da proverb sayz, proper prior planning prevents poor performance. 6 Pees. yakking started around the 180 days to go mark, that da Hilo 5 planned to go to Florida. an SteveM put out a calendar for the cc in Orlando, and gave dis gang the heads up about planning for Florida 3 months ago. das right, wuz us. After Aloha and ATA shut down, some of us made reservations to go and return to Florida. das right, 6 Pees. an whuze been calling the UH ticket ofc banging an clangin for tix for da Fla game? das right, homey's proteegee - da 6 Pees.
I'm a firm beleeva in da slippa whacka ackshun. gets da attenshun. we gots to make big noise so Mack noze dare is a problem; he can plan for it. he's got 109 days to get ready for da game, 104 days to fly so he can get da boyz used to da heat, practice ova dayah in da stadium. maybe he should call ahead, get permission to run closed practices a couple of days, at least some schemes closed practices. but mostly, get the team used to the humidity, the size of the place and the vision of BELIEVERS IN DA STANDS, and SUCCESS. c'mon gangee, you can do it!! yes you can.
GO WARRIORS.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
ROOTSRUNDEEP
HOWZIT HOWZIT.
LizK, FloridaTed and 4 Hilo fans(yours truly family) would like to sit together in the Hawaii section. Can you arrange that? That would be FABULOUS. We'll cover your expenses, naturally. We're going, we'd look to sit together. Thank you. 808-933-1758.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Rootsrundeep- 9 hours on Greyhound from Pensacola to Orlando and vice versa... looong.... but if I buy the tix way ahead of time, only $100 round trip.
Doesn't give me much time to say howdy to my family in Pensacola.
No train route... I checked that too.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
ALSO- Kymry from Kauai needs 4 Swamp tickets!!!
LizKauai needs 3 or 4 tickets to the OREGON STATE GAME too.
May 12th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
that was a cute video of gigi, seriously. gigi, good job! btw, 257!
May 12th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Stephen,
Thank you sir.
May 12th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
bighilofan, LizK,
I would love to sit with you guys, but if you have somebody more deserving, I'll step back from the possible ticket. Are you all chartering a bus, with enough Tsaikos, going from Orlando and back?
Jacksonville would be a lot easier to get to Gainesville, but not much going on over there, as compared to Orlando. By the way, a lot more people in Jacksonville are Gator fans, rather than the Jaguars, It's a lot easier to get tickets for the Jaguars, even on gameday. It sure is SEC country, much bigger then Pro-Football.

May 12th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
chawan_cut: Was that Kevin Garnett who got dunked on? Amazing! ST: Please let us know how Colt is doing in training camp when you hear from him next.
May 12th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
UH Travel arrangements:
I believe that Panda Travel is listed as the "official" travel agency for all UH sports. They have an office in the Athletic Department complex.
Never again after the Sugar Bowl when our 2 escorts disappeared after we got in, refused to give us their room number or cell phone number ( just leave message at the front desk, they said), some rooms were terrible( no curtains with workers outside, no furniutre, toilets stuck, etc - and we paid premium price for a 5-star hotel; oh yea, couple next to our room on the 11th floor paid amost $100 per night more than we were billed), they showed up for the bus transport to the game, but never told anyone we had to walk over 300 yards just to get to the stadium, and on and on and on.
Finally, when we went to the airport to check in for our flight home, United Air Lines had one person to check in over 300 of us and we stood in line for nearly 1 and a half hours before we moved 1 foot. Finally, the escorts arrived and did assist with the check in, but it did nothing to remove the sour taste for many tour members. There was a pure lack of coordination by Panda Travel!!!!!!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Unassisted triple play by Indians' Asdrubal Cabrera. Only the 14th in MLB history. He could have the ball and his glove in the Baseball HOF. But wait...
May 12th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
AHouse - Sorry to hear about your troubles. And to think that you guys paid the premium price for your trip.
May 12th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
21. Fresno State Bulldogs
The Bulldogs bring back 10 starters on offense, including quarterback Tom Brandstater and tailback Ryan Mathews. Coach Pat Hill will have to replace 2007 WAC Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Riley. The Bulldogs play a typically tough nonconference schedule with games against Rutgers, Wisconsin and UCLA, so there won't be much room for error.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
11. Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders bring back record-setting quarterback Graham Harrell and receiver Michael Crabtree, but coach Mike Leach is most excited about his team's improved defense. Texas Tech is deeper and bigger up front on defense and the addition of a few key juco transfers makes it a big sleeper in the Big 12.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
5. Florida Gators
Last year's 9-4 record was pretty humbling for the Gators, especially after they won the BCS title in coach Urban Meyer's second season in 2006. Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow won't be the only Gator running the football in 2008. USC transfer Emmanuel Moody and speedy freshman Chris Rainey will help alleviate some of the pressure on Tebow. Eight starters are back from what was a very young defense last season, and end Carlos Dunlap looks like a premier pass-rusher. The Gators play only one really tough road game: at Tennessee on Sept. 20.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
14. BYU Cougars
The Cougars look like the best bet from a non-BCS conference to crash the big boys' party this coming season. BYU returns 10 starters from an offense that averaged 442.8 yards and 30.1 points per game. Quarterback Max Hall is surrounded by a myriad of playmakers and should be better in his second full season under center. The defense must replace three of four starting linebackers, but the Cougars will easily be the class of the Mountain West Conference (and might even finish unbeaten).
May 12th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
NYUH,
I was kinda hoping you'd show up yesterday.
Is Mother's Day still the "slowest" day of the year for NYPD?
May 12th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
AHouse,
Sorry you had a kinda bummer stay in NOLa. Sumday I'll tell you about how da NOLa pickpocket wen make me
But all in all, it just got me ready for this season and Fla and OSU, Cinci, Wassu and Weber St, besides Fresno, SJSU, Boise.
I am soooo jacked I'm thinking refresher course in anger management, Vili pushup development.
I hope da peeps understan that there is intensity just below da surface of WARRIOR NATION!
i going hang my bannah so you peeps (Kekoa) can look upon it an wonda, WTF..... das not a bannah....
BWAHAHAAAHAAAA
May 12th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
NYUH- re the comments on the teams....
Bwahahahahaa...
UH is in stealth mode...
May 12th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
A House, am truly sad to hear that Panda gave you all big time grief. At one time, I used to work for them and they had a truly first class outfit. JT (boss) knew how to take care of his employee and made sure they took care of their customers. I don't know if you let them know about the bad SB trip, but if you didn't, please let them know so they can make the necessary corrections. Actually, your SB trip makes me depressed because I never thought they would do something like that to you all.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
If UH starts running low on tix for the OR St. game, I can ask our previous HAPA Hawaiian club president who is going to the OSU vet. school to see if he can buy tix that are in the visitor's section. Matt is originally from Big Island. I'll go check...
May 12th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
LizK, i going be in Alaska at the time of the FL game. What i going to is every time i get one bite, no going say hanapa, but RIP THE GATORS!!!!! Whoooo, hope I no run out of voice.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
I think it is pretty obvious by now that all those pre-season pundits never took a close look at our team, they gave us some rudimentary mentiom about our improved defense, but otherwise, all they talk about is our losses on offense. They really have no idea of the talent we have and still coming in, They also have no real idea how deep and how much better our defense will be. Furthermore, they have no inkling of the quality of our coordinators Cal and Ron Lee, as well as a Rich Miano and our spirited young coaches.
Most of all, they have no idea of how organized and thorough our Head coach is, that he's a man with a plan and knows how to motivate and prepare his team to the fullest. All this lack of respect is fine with me, I don't mind going into the season under the radar, without a Bulls Eye on our backs.
Florida will be thinking blow-out all the way and that is an attitude that can back fire very quickly. If we can hit them hard early and hold them, we could give them a game they won't forget for a long time, if we come out sluggish, we're dead. But Coach will have them ready. The lack of respect will make 2008 so much sweeter.
GO, WARRIORS !!!
May 12th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
ooohhh, whitey- HOOK EM, eh? Now- fishing is my kinda sport - but with this plantar fasciitis , owee! Plus no can go on da rock and roll boats any more eedah... da nite fishing for akule did me in...

May 12th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
eh whitey.....get tv in them alaskan lodges?
May 12th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Florida Ted,
I now agree on your commentary about Coach Mack.
A House,
You'll have to agree that Panda work environment at UH last year was established by the boss HF and the Panda workers' perception of da boss in action. So when I look at Panda last year I'm thinking, with HF hiding the 8 ball from the rest of us (Legislature, Pres, Chancellor, JJ, let alone him never talkin to us on da level), hey Whitey's sayin dat Panda can get it together if you let da Panda slippa krackas no da scoops.
I'm all fo whackin da guyZ wit da slippa, an digging b4 da crowd catches up wit da BAT....
c'mon, only playing.
heh heh heh
May 12th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
bhf2- I would THINK... that with the solid crowd at the SB last year, that UH and the marketing entities- public and private - would be hyping the upcoming season like crazy to get the expats as well as the islanders to start committing to travel.
I don't want to be standing here like last year- when the Saturday before the SB announcement, it was $700 RT to NOLA and $1300 on Monday after the announcement.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Its not a good year for Pandas......look at the earthquake in China......only 1200 Pandas left in the wild......there home range of mountains has been severly affected.......i think the "bachi" went to the wrong Pandas.....
May 12th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Just got off the phone with Rich2176, who arrives in town June 17.
His wife is my Roosevelt classmate, a very gifted screenwriter who is completing her final chemo treatment. I think she arrives in town this summer, too.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Plus they need to downplay any sense of fear because of the upcoming Olympics too.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
A-House,
Too bad about Panda. But they are handling my trip to Tokyo next month. Hope all goes well.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Margo- Ya hoo!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Looking forward to meeting Rich and Ronnie on June 19. Kekoa said Ronnie is extremely intelligent and she knows all the facts about the NFL and UH football. Ask her a question about them and she will give you a factual answer.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Green Alert Green Alert
Mr. Watanabe, Carl Clapp, Jimmy D, Panda. supervisors, ticket peeps, administrators. Lets see. There is much to do and not many hands to perform all tasks in a short time span. The enormity of determining the ID of last season ticket holders, inquiring of each caller how many tickets, they want. Instead, the process becomes a duplicate paper generating time consuming exercise. For example, I got a 5 ticket purchase order on April 21 from Florida. I am GQ public. In Hawaii, we haven't even decided the names of people who want tickets have gotten tickets and where they'll be seated. its some kind of mystery here. But setting a policy of who gets offered to get tickets first. and trying not to regurgitate the same information or process twice and moving down the line so that this process gets done is a much shorter period of time than the Aloha time fram we are now operating on, June 2 when Florida gave them to me on April 21, is way to slow for me.
The peeps wit clout obviously did not pay close enuf attention to the UGA DEs at the SB. We gonna get bus up if our Tline cannot step up. Proper prior planning prevents poor performance.
I wonder how much pay for working da UH office? Callin da peeps, gettin da tickets out, callin up da radio stations, talk about the players, the #s, the inside scoops about families, sacrificies, tv stations, newspaper stations, Letterman's, canoe clubs, karaoke facilities, keaumoku diners, bars (drinking for da team) get da peeps talkin so da mainland peeps talkin so we make parade, show up some places wit big screen and $10 cover charge donation to Na Koa Anuenue. Maybe I get chance for be staff/security/escort, go away games unda da Hermie Plan, planner extraordin .din. hehehehe
but meanwhile, JD takin care of the big money stuff for the long run of the school. Field replacement, goodies....
But da planning and boosterism game needs a shot in da arm. So I am letting you know GREEN ALERT
GO WARRIORS!!!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
gigi- Ronnie is amazing. She's a very pleasant, centered and settled person... but challenge her on the subject of football... well, I put all my chips on Ronnie. Does interactive encyclopedia mean anything to you??? nuff said.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Liz, I wonder how far back her knowledge of football extends.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
gigi- she cut her teeth on football. She and Rob25 are the tag team sisters... big time! Watchout!
As for Rich- he is a sweetheart and while I am more or less a wallflower, I hear he is one fun party person - and in a room with da Tsai-ko gang... on June 19 ... oh yeah... it is gonna be a par-tay!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Liz, which menu did you pick? I picked Menu #1. Price is right and it has tempura!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
gigi- I picked the one with the kalbi.
Their pork tofu smelled sooo good, but I was already grinding my usual nabeyaki udon... which is very ono.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
We probably won't stay late. Hubby likes to take a 2 hr nap and then work out at the gym on Thursday nights.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
I'm looking forward to meeting Margo if she is willing to have a Cattle Call with us... just tell us what flavor... brunch, lunch, dinner, dinner karaoke, bars, or bar karaoke.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
SteveM,
Your RSVP link for the June 19 bash on your site does not work. I wanted to check out the menus again but couldn't.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Actually, the Florida situation is quite different from the SB. We only get 4,000 tickets alloted to begin with, end of August, September and October has tons of Hotel rooms available in Orlando and for lower budgets you have plenty of Quality Inns, Knights Inns and other chains on every freeway exit from $29 to $79 a night. Nice, clean rooms, usually two big beds, etc. cheap places to eat all around. I travel alot along the Free Ways and High Ways and I usually stay in one of those to crash for the night. It's very different from the expensive and busy bowl season in New Oleans. Out side of the travel distance from Hawaii, everything should be far easier than NO. The biggest problem is the flights from Hawaii and decent tickets, because there are so few. Somebody (Tsai-Meister?) should contact JD to find out if the took the pulse of potential travelers and have a grip on the number of fans actually going to Florida.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
psst.... psssstttt. kekoa
where you stay? all dat coachin wea u down? GiGi give you PTSD? i no da symptoms. doze tings don't hit you right away. gotta come home first, sit down, watch da video, get flashback... den u ready 4 send in yoa DD428, claim 200% total disability, coachin 2 of dem. 1 214 no nuff. heh heh
May 12th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
PS. If you want to stay in Gainesville( that's the exception) and don't have a room already, forget about. It's packed on game day.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
I think it's good that Liz is traveling to Orlando by bus cause if she rented a car, where would she park at the stadium?
May 12th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
1. Mei Ling mahalo to you and your Mama for an interesting (and healthy) lunch.
hope to see you folks in Hawaii soon.
2.LizKauai midnight arrival? no problemo, get plenny ono Chinese places to grind, or the world famous Peppermill is also 24 hours too.
easy way to kill 5-6 hours, jus eat.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Gigi,
That's right, it's almost impossible to find parking, unless you have somekind of an arrangement.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Yeah, it's kinda wierd. If I hook up with bhf2 in Orlando, I am actually traveling further away from Pensacola/Gainsville. But the fellowship and Cattle call opportunities with other Tsai-kos is a huge part of the trip.
We'll have to figure out the details as we get closer to the dates. As it is, I will have very little time for fishing with the family in Pensacola!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
ok, las vegas! I am really looking forward to meeting you!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
ah stevem isn't the june 19th a cattle call?
May 12th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
It's a karaoke kall... I think we need an attorney to clear this up.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
BTW, the genius that came up with the idea of final exams should be shot. SHOT I tell you. Either that, or we should have prideperiod knock on his/her front door. I would be satisfied with either action.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Daughter has 2 finals on Wed -- pre-calculus and human anatomy (lecture).
Today she went hiking.
Tonight she went to work.
Don't know what she has planned for Tuesday! Hope it's study!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
gigi -- I just double-checked the links and they are correct. It seems OK -- maybe the blue screen of hanging feature is getting to you (only thing the survey site is coded better and doesn't use superfluous blue graphics.
Please try again.
As for the buffet menu's, I don't want to assume anything right now, but once we have have sufficient numbers for the buffet, we will see the most requested and probably go with that-- but people who chose the other menus will be given a chance to change their mind about the buffet and back out. Then we'll see what if we have enough. We are about 10 days away from this stage yet.
Hopefully we will have enough agreement at the end. This might be the last buffet we ever have too...especially after my cousin sees us eat.
But they are not faint-hearted and the kitchen staff wants Tsai-ko shirts...
Remember, those who are not 100% sure they can attend on June 19 can still RSVP with the "No dinner/order ala carte" option.
RSVP at the survey site OR email the info. Survey site and info at:

May 12th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
Yes it is -- so by your email comment, you CAN be the cashier...
May 12th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
pre-calculus....toughest course ever.
i still have nightmares.
class lecture was to sit in front of a tv monitor 3x per week.
class lab taught by a korean national who "no speaky english".
frustrated even tho i had calculus in hs, opted to hit the surf instead of classes.
wipeout.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
SteveM,
When I go to your site and click on the RSVP link, I get a page that says SurveyMonkey.com Thank you for taking the survey. Looking to create your own?
What is going on?
May 12th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Al, she is taking 3 classes plus a lab and has an A average in all. However, for pre-calculus she has a 90% which means she is borderline.
It helps that my other daughter is a math teacher and can help her when she is stuck on her homework.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
SteveM, it does that even with your link above.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
gigi- it may be doing that because we already participated in the survey. I got the same thing.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Nitey Nite and Sweet Dreams of a Great Football Season to Come and a Softball Victory on Friday!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
gigi -- I don't know. But it sounds like the site planted a cookie to prevent you from doing the same survey multiple times. Since I don't take my own survey, I never noticed. Either delete your browser (IE) cookie for SurveyMonkey or simply use another browser (FireFox, Safari, etc.) that you haven't taken the survey with before.
Free Advice: PC users should always have an additional browser. If something happens to IE, you can't use IE to get another copy via the internet....but you can if you have a "spare" browser already installed.

Lot of aloha for the Daggers of Pahoa/Trogans of Kau. It takes a lot of character to play for a small public school. Small public schools face a lot of adversity in their progams and that develops character.

And if you want to know what my 373 class is like, just change 140 to 373. That final was today; turned out alright, I thought. Thank goodness for open notes; I wish all finals were open notes.

good advice mr. computer. never thought about that one.

May 12th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Rather fustrating that the Warriors are unable to charter all the way Florida. But there still is time to figure out something.
It is not gonna help that fuel prices will still increase.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
al: Good thing about this class is that the prof makes all the notes available, just gotta pick it up at the beginning of class. So today, I brought all five review sheets and practice exams, the four exams we already took, and the homeworks since the last exam. Just had to find problems similar (or the same!) as those on the test.
I'm taking his Math 414 class in the fall, but the final isn't open notes.

NAGOYA -- A man died after turning into a fireball after police supplied him with cigarettes and a lighter and his kerosene-soaked clothes exploded into flames while in a police interrogation room here, police said.
The 45-year-old unemployed Nagoya man, whose name was not disclosed, died late Sunday night, about 21 hours after he burst into flames inside an investigation room at the Atsuta Police Station.
A 54-year-old police sergeant who tried to extinguish the fire that claimed the man's life sustained minor burns to his right hand.
Investigators said they are unsure whether the man set himself alight or he burst into flames by accident.
Atsuta Police Station Deputy Chief Michiharu Kondo slammed his officers for giving the man cigarettes and a lighter despite the station's no smoking policy.
"It was wrong not to get him to change his clothes and to have given him permission to have a cigarette in the smoke-free police station," Kondo said.
Police said they received a call from the man's 59-year-old lover at about 8:40 p.m. on Saturday night after the couple had become embroiled in an argument. Six officers were dispatched to the scene and the man walked out onto the road to greet them, carrying an 18-liter jerry can filled with kerosene. He walked about 200 meters along the road, pouring kerosene over his head as he did so on three separate occasions, using about 5 liters of the flammable liquid.

Good night everyone!

DragonMaster-
Mahalo for your sentiments. I agree. There's just something special to have played for and represent a small public school. From the outer island, no doubt.
I do hope something can be worked out for Pahoa. Hopefully, local businesses and the Dagger community can step up and help these young men experience a chance of a lifetime they will never forget.
Please drop in more often. We need to give this blog more of our small town, outer island country perspective.

LizK,

Otherwise, plan B is to call around. No worries about us. We can eat for you, call you up, play with you on gameday. We would miss you, of course, but when we see the food all is

May 13th, 2008 at 6:27 am
Many Hawaii fans have talked about trying to get UH to join another conference. There are a lot of barriers to this of course, but East Carolina is trying to put together an *amazing* offer to join the Big East just for football.
May 13th, 2008 at 6:31 am
Reagan got a mention in a discussion of Miami's depth chart...I hope that this is just speculation from the reporter and not a reflection of what he's hearing from the coaches.
May 13th, 2008 at 6:41 am
Great Morning All.
Good to read this morning that the softball Wahine have worked out an Itinerary albeit a pretty wild one.
"at least they can sleep on the bus" Gee, if the softball coach gig doesn't work out for Coach Coolen maybe he's got a life as a campaign spokesperson.
May 13th, 2008 at 6:43 am
bhf2,
Just amazed at your early morning "cockadoodle-doo's" What DO you put in your koppe?
May 13th, 2008 at 6:44 am

I hope that writer's mention of Reagan is not prescient but mere conjecture.

Hope none of you face this experience today:
heheheh
May 13th, 2008 at 6:47 am
good morning Tsaikos!!
When reading about the Softball travels this morning, I was thinking, WTF is up with that???!!!??? There are direct flights available but over $940 r/t. I guess that is over the budget allowed?? I wonder if Hawaiian gives special rates to UH teams?? That sucks to have to sit on the bus from LA to Tempe.
May 13th, 2008 at 7:13 am
Stretch,
remember when you'd sit on a bus for a ride from LA to Tempe to go to da dance with all da ladies on da bus, when you thought you'd lost your dance card just a few days ago an nobody was going dance with you? heh heh
May 13th, 2008 at 7:16 am
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Snowing (!) today in Flag-pole! I stay home...working from home nursing a cold. I think I should be able to get to the wahine softball game on Friday. Meeting in the morning, then leave at lunch. I have a green UH football t-shirt, so that's what I'll wear to support the wahine. Gotta figure out tickets & parking. Alohaz!

May 13th, 2008 at 7:33 am
Howzit Tsaikos & Lurkers everywhere!
Has any UH 2007 season ticket holder(s) actually received ticket confirmation for the 8/30 Florida game? what section and seat #s did you receive? interesting to see if the peeps are scattered in the upper sections of 34, 36, 38, 40, 42
or in the upper upper sections of 35, 37, 39, 41, 43. Particularly interested if tickets are being given out for section 36, rows 7-20, da BIG $$$ tix on Stubhub.
The sooner we figure this out the sooner we'll know how much respect Florida is giving us. Or how much snow we're getting in Hawaii. We have options; the sooner we know the sooner we can deploy, go find tix in doze sections thru anodda ruuuht, go to plan B. tsaiko instigators, currycomb da bushes 4 da answas. heh heh heh TANKS EH!

Stretch,
How many hits has your video gotten so far?
Just curious.
May 13th, 2008 at 7:51 am
gigi - it shows 568 views. I bet 300 of them are from you trying to figure out your swing.
May 13th, 2008 at 7:52 am
With Aloha's fleet of long distance aircraft probably sitting on the ground gathering dust, couldn't UH at least check around to see if the owners of the aircraft could explore the possibilty of getting a crew along with the aircraft to take the Warriors to Florida/Oregon St. games????
May 13th, 2008 at 7:55 am
So, the area where you install and eject CDs and DVDs is jammed on my laptop.
I told the techs: It's jammed. It won't allow me to install CDs.
So, naturally, a tech forces a CD in, and now it won't eject.
They said there's no money to fix it.
I asked for a new laptop. They're still laughing.
May 13th, 2008 at 7:57 am
McTruck:
Aloha didn't own its own planes. Only leased them, which is what made it so easy to close down the operations.
In other words, there are no planes sitting around.
May 13th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Thanks...just wondering??
May 13th, 2008 at 7:58 am
morning all
I'm going to check in at Pahoa High today to see if they still need $$ to make the HNL trip for the volleyball team.
any tsaiko's want to pledge, even small $$ might help.
I plan to donate if they need it, my son used to play for the soccer team and my oldest son works as the computer tech for the Pahoa elementary school
BTW air fares to orlando, tampa and jacksonville are all in the high 700's on the airline websites...goodluck to all those going to the swamp
May 13th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Wait-a-minute??..you mean to say that with conditions in the airline industry the way it is, there is a wait list for aircraft to lease or purchase?
May 13th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Oh-well...just wondering??
May 13th, 2008 at 8:07 am

May 13th, 2008 at 8:10 am
let me clarify... it doesn't come out immediately.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:12 am
Hi Everyone,
Seems like I only get to lurk once in a blue moon nowadays. Miss reading about what everyone has to say and all the other nonsense that comes up along the way!
I'm so glad the Wahine Softball team made it to Regionals! They deserve another chance to show what they're really made of, but it's all up to Coach Bob to make the right decisions! (e.g., just because she's your ace pitcher, doesn't mean she's Super Woman. A person can only pitch so many games in a row!) Good luck!
Also wanted to congratulate the Lady Techsters for winning the WAC Tournament. They played great and really showed that they deserved to win.
GO WAHINE!
May 13th, 2008 at 8:13 am
Big Hilo Fan Man ~
My apologies for not screaming at you for the last 24 hours. I had more pressing issues to perform here on the ceded lands.
The Kapolei HS access gate near the front of my hale has been blocked with a temporary wooden barrier. When one side nevah like open da gate and da odda side said, "NO!"...I just hook one chain to my neighbors truck, and when he drove off, the barrier came down! Oops! Da keeds got blamed for making trouble. County hauled off what was left of da gate, problem solved.
SteveM - I might have a similar solution for the Blue Deuce Goose, but I'm short of grenades and det cord at the moment. Got any former Arms dealers live near you?
Actually, all I had should have to say is "does BHF2 mean anything to you?"...and wham! All eyes should light up inside the inner sanctum of da 'Tizer 'puter shop! Hey...that's what you call HILO RESPECT!
May 13th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Yep.
The Tizer is No. 1. By plenty.
But, hey, somebody has to pay for this new Web design.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:24 am
Good Morning Tsaikos!
Sorry, had to clear my desk of more pressing matters this morning with my big island braddah. No like him give me da stink eye today. I'm on a mission of mercy later this morning, so I had to check in with him first.
SteveM, just off da top of your head, how much blasting powder do you think they store over at Lualualei?
May 13th, 2008 at 8:25 am
Tickets to the NCAA Wahine Softball tourney $10. Hawaii is the Home team. Got a ticket over the dugout. WheeHa! Will send updates to LizK.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:29 am
BHF2 ~ Now, back to more pressing matters. What's all this talk about tickets? According to what I heard, they gave out 36 DUI tickets in Hilo town last week alone! So no worry beef curry, seems like there's an ample supply available.
...and another thing, transportation. If your going to da swamp, first, do what Liz did and commandeer one plane. Den go down to da Greyhound station and tell 'em you like charter one skinny, but very fast dog. Wen pau, kalua dat buggah along wid da giant gecko!
May 13th, 2008 at 8:34 am
Mei Ling! - You GO girl! Hey geeve 'em all you get ova deah...Na Wahine deserve your support. Too bad nevah had time to organize all da Hawaiians in Da house!
May 13th, 2008 at 8:50 am
MeiLing, I'm SO J! Mahalo for taking the time to support the Wahine while they're away. Are you related to someone on the team?
May 13th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Since there were no comments about the Pahoa High volleyball team...maybe you knew this already.
They were able to obtain the funds....through local fundraising...plenty smoke meat eh!
To leave for Oahu this afternoon.
Plenty trouble to get on the website from the 'tiser main page from my work computer....it took me back to the old website first.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Sent an email to JD on the bracelets for the Wahine, here is his answer:
Pomai:
My understanding of the entire situation is...
Originally, Coach Coolen wanted to give the bracelets at the WAC softball
tournament, but then was informed that the tournament was actually a WAC function
and not a UH function (i.e. it is an event that is supposed to be run a neutral as
possible.)
He checked with the WAC administrators, and was informed that they felt it would be
inappropriate to distribute them in front of the other teams, especially since UH
was the host institution. So Bob was going to do it after the NCAA announcement on
teams in the tourney (because he figured he'd give the girls something to be
positive about since he was pretty sure they wouldn't make the tourney...)
Once they were announced he decided to wait for now as he didn't want to distract
them from their mission to win as many games as possible in the tourney.
His current plans are to give the bracelets soon after their tourney run is pau --
whenever that is...
THANKS again for all your efforts -- and Coach Coolen is VERY appreciative!
Jim

Bighilofan2, Addahknowjoe, Hilogreg, Dragonmaster & all who care,
Thanks for supporting my ala mater in donations and even just thinking about them is more then we alumni could ask.
I do not want to mention the 'other' paper...but today they have a kinda follow-up article to the Advertiser's one yesterday.
If you are in the area too, please stop by the tourney and make sure to wear Green & White and cheer for them please =)
Mahalo!!!!
Small schools..REPRESENT!
May 13th, 2008 at 8:56 am
hilogreg...
That's actually pretty cheap. Friends of mine have to go to Alaska for work related purposes in August and they just booked their trips. Airfare alone was $1100.
And my nephew just flew back from LMU and his airfare was $650, from LA. Boy was he po'd.....
So, $700 isn't that bad to Orlando/Tampa area.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Good luck Daggers.
Be proud!
Onipa'a!
Represent!
I Mua Pahoa!
May 13th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Hilogreg,
ROFLMAO!!
Yeah, choke smoke meat and port sausage haha.
My pops used to ( and still does to some extent )help the Baseball, Softball and other sports in fund raising. Yes, he of course makes smoke meat and sausage haha...boy..I tell ya, I helped soo much...but its all good. At least the players and coaches come and help...play cards in the meantime, eat, talk story. Good fun!
May 13th, 2008 at 9:15 am
Thanks Pomai for the update. I was wondering what was happening. I guess we have to wait until the come back from the Championsip game in early June.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Wassup Stretch and AJoe....I still waiting for my onion rings....maybe ready today yeah?

Big Workday. Will lurk later.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Pomai,
Good to hear the wahine are going to be recognized at home. Mahalo for your work on the bracelets.
Laieikawai,
No I'm not related to anyone on the team. Just going cuz I want to support them & I'm Tsaiko. Since I'm in AZ, might as well go. There were 5 other bloggers, IanS, etc , who were in AZ closer to ASU than I am. Wonder if Ian is thru w/ classes at ASU? Not many students left on campus here; finals were over on the 8th.
Kekoa, howzit to you & your Pops. Hope he's doing well.
Rich, hope Marge is doing better & she enjoys her time at home this summer.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Kekoa,
Negative, on the smoke meat and sausage at the game haha, but when pops does come up to visit me, he always brings some up. I'll give ya a hollar here when he does and I'll let ya sample. You like the fatty smoke meat of you da healthy kine of guy?
Yeah, that story sums up the struggle the neighbor islands face. let me put it into another context. Punahou probably wins more state titles per year then most small schools have in their history....Money and more money.
May 13th, 2008 at 9:55 am
XxFaithxX - You must plan for a T-gate with da Tsaiko Ohana. Bring your Pops along with that dee-licious smoke meat. No can beat home made yeah?! Then you can sample some of what we dish out.
Check SteveM's site for the details and Hele Mai!
May 13th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Did I read in the Tiser Sports section this morning (over my Huevos Rancheros), tiny kine print, that a Florida football player was shot in a park? He lived and supposedly will play this season.
