Keomaka signs with indoor-league team

May 15th, 2008 by Stephen Tsai

Cornerback Ryan Keomaka has signed a deal to play for the Billings (Mont.) Outlaws of the United Indoor Football League.
Keomaka’s first game is Saturday.
Keomaka also is expected to receive a tryout with the Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders also have expressed interest in defensive tackle Michael Lafaele.

Timo Paepule and A.J. Martinez will participate in Sunday’s graduation ceremony in the Stan Sheriff Center.
Myron Newberry and Jake Patek are scheduled to complete work on their degrees this summer and also are eligible to participate in Sunday’s ceremony. Patek said he has decided not to walk the line this weekend.

Plans are in the works for the real Coach Mack — Heather McMackin — to lead a clinic on the women’s perspective of football.
Heather, wife of what’s-his-name, ran a similar for-women-only clinic at Texas Tech.
She’ll go over the basic rules and plays. There also is a uniform demonstration that is the highlight of the clinic.
The clinic will be conducted sometime before the start of training camp in August.

At the moment, wideout Jett Jasper is not on the tentative training-camp roster, although he has been invited to join the team on the first day of the fall semester. The coaches love Jasper’s work ethic and attention to detail, and they are trying to find a way to squeeze him into training camp.

Another setback for Manoa lettuce, Kahuku corn and Maui onion:

Taro is in line to become Hawaii’s official state plant this summer.
Acting Gov. James “Duke” Aiona signed the bill into law Wednesday.

    Wow! A clinic!

  2. Kazz:

    My goodness…

The Mack Pack is all over the place!!!!

  3. Stephen Tsai:

    Unfortunately, Jason can’t attend.
But it’ll be cool that Gigi, Doc and Liz can go and pick up a few pointers.
Then they can come back and tell us what’s going on.

  4. Jason:

How about we supplement that clinic with a Tsaiko chat — Ronnie as our guest host. :-)

  5. Stretch:

I think it is a good thing to try and reach out to the people that don’t understand the game and want to learn. It will create interest and increase attendance to the games. One thing I worry about, what if there is a male who doesn’t know the game and wants to attend?? Kind of shame to learn from a lady.

  6. jojo ®:

    typo?

  7. homey ®:

Congratulations to Timo Paepule and A.J. Martinez! Good job!

Also, congratulations to Myron Newberry and Jake Patek!

XLiz will stay positive no matter what situation Jasper is in. She’s like that you know.

Tidbit - Congratulations to Anya for being the runner-up in Cycle 10 of America’s next top model. She’s from Hawaii (originally from Russia) and went/goes to Waipahu High school…so my daughter says.

  8. Jason:

I can borrow one of gigi’s mu‘umu‘u, no one will know. ;-)

  9. homey ®:

jojo - maybe her name is “Healther”???

  10. homey ®:

Jason - That’s right, you look just like her…

  11. Stretch:

homey - maybe that was Jason in the blue muumuu on the driving range??

  12. homey ®:

Stretch - You mean Jason has been working out? His triceps are huge!

  13. gigi-hawaii ©:

“Heal-ther”???? Heather, here we come! Guys are not allowed, sorry, with or without muumuu.

  14. gigi-hawaii ©:

How can Jase look like me? His hair is much longer than mine!

  15. Stephen Tsai:

And Jason golfs vertically, as opposed to Gigi, who appears (from the video) to levitate sideways while hitting.

  16. Jason:

Who said I’d look like gigi if I wear a mu‘umu‘u? No, I’ll look like James.

Seriously, though, I think this is a great idea. Get more of the ladies to the games — particularly mothers. Not only gets more families to the games, but also helps with the development of youth football, as mothers have less anxiety over letting their kids play the game since they have a better understanding of it.

  17. homey ®:

Hey ST. Do you golf? I’m thinking about getting the ‘ol hickory sticks out of storage and having them re-gripped and take some professional lessons from Kekoa.

  18. jojo ®:

    no more typo

  19. Stephen Tsai:

I only golf on the windmill courses.

  20. homey ®:

Jason - I always have to explain to the wifey about punts. She keeps telling me why do the just let the punt go in the endzone? Why don’t they catch it and run? How come the other team watches the ball roll and then touch it when it stops? and on and on and on…

  21. Stephen Tsai:

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I’ll admit that I’m a fool for you
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

  22. homey ®:

ST - You golf in Holland?

  23. Stephen Tsai:

All of which leads me to thinking about grad songs. What’s your favorite grad song?
At Roosevelt, we did the “We Will Rock You” chant before we walked out. Our grad song was Hawai‘i Aloha. Not sure why.

  24. Stephen Tsai:

For brother Mike’s graduation at Kalani, they sang, “That’s What Friends Are For.”
Of course, some wiseacres put on dark glasses during the Stevie Wonder part.

  25. koakane:

    moved over from previous blog.

    homey,

    26th!

  27. homey ®:

Sheesh, if I recall correctly, “Times of Your Life” was our grad song…or was it the year before. So I graduated twice…

  28. Stephen Tsai:

26 is a Heptagonal Pyramidal Number.
Sum of the 1st four Mersenne numbers=26.
The Great Rhombicuboctahedron is an Archimedean Solid with 26 Faces.
The Chemical Element Iron has an atomic number of 26.
The 26 ganglions of the sympathetic system of the Human body.
The 26 letters of the Latin alphabet.
The 26 letters of the English Alphabet.
The Sumerians used a zodiac including 13 constellations and 26 main stars.

Now why is it that women can have “Women only” things but men are not allowed to have “Men only” type things????

  30. gigi-hawaii ©:

remember when you were 26 years old? That was a junk age for me. I am much happier now at age 99.

  31. bonar:

    exactly!

  32. Kazz:

    RE: Graduation Song

When they played “Pomp and Circumstance” during our graduation, a friend of mine proceeded to walk out with makeshift tassels hanging off his arms and began pointing aimlessly into the crowd ala Macho Man Randy Savage.

Oh yeah and someone threw up.

  33. homey ®:

    26 - sum of the 5th, 6th, and 7th Fibonacci numbers…Knights Templar.

  34. Stephen Tsai:

    Those who wore No. 26:

    ST- waxin poetic this morning!

xs-homey- you are right. GO JETT!

    Football 101- sounds good.
Actually, Ronnie could do it - then the guys could show with regular clothes and no shame.

  36. Stephen Tsai:

When I was 26, my daughter was 1, the Mets won the World Series (I have a Bill Buckner autograph) and I was named the UH basketball beat writer.

  37. Stephen Tsai:

    But back to graduation songs.
Remember that one by the Beach Boys? It’s only available on the live album? That’s the one where one of the Boys jumps in and sings the closing line too early.

  38. Stephen Tsai:

The most exciting, for me, non-Tsai graduation was when Colt was announced.

We could have a men’s only wet t-shirt contest.

  43. LizKauai [Believer]:

ST- remember to take your meds.

I don’t remember our grad song but our Freshman dance theme was Popsicles and Icicles, I think.

  44. homey ®:

Back then, many of us HS graduates could legally enjoy a bathtub full of beers, asti spumante, gallo, tj swann, and boones farm strawberry hill.

  45. homey ®:

XLiz - No worry, I don’t expect you to recall something that happened over 60 years ago.

  46. Stephen Tsai:

    Homey in a wet t-shirt?
That last stampede is folks running to the exit of this blog.

  47. Stephen Tsai:

In five years and two days, Jason will be 26.

  56. homey ®:

Yep, ST, Tsaiko men, wet t-shirt calendar.

  57. Stephen Tsai:

Let’s see, I started with the graduation announcement, then I started humming along to Walk The Line, then I thought of Hawai‘i Aloha, and then …

  58. Stephen Tsai:

OK, it’s official. We’re going to have a Men of the Warrior Beat calendar.

  59. homey ®:

So according to ST, I’m pretty much on topic today.

  60. Stephen Tsai:

    Re: blog rules.
Last night, one of my coworkers asked how she could get more comments on her blog.
I said: Well, first you need a football team …

Can I be February? It’s a short month.

  63. Loa:

congrats to Timo and A.J. and good luck to Myron & Jake this summer

  65. Pomai:

homey now tell the truth you wouldn’t want to meet that wahine in a dark ally would you? LOL

  66. LizKauai [Believer]:

So - ah - what kind of calendar are we having? I just saw The Full Monty for the first time last week… not that there would be any connection to a calendar…

  67. Bulla:

    homey,
i’d like to see you in november, it’s turkey month :)

  68. Bulla:

unless we’re giving out binoculars, i’m out of the equation

  69. LizKauai [Believer]:

February - brown paper bag with koa chopstix
March - brew808 - green Warrior cap with ticket stubs and pins.

    hmmm

  70. Bulla:

  72. A-House:

    Pomai:

Your #256 post only 13 points????????

Just means that “betting line folks” don’t have much confidence in florida and/or much confidence in Hawaii. Where are the so-called “football experts” who rate the Warriors so lowwwwwwwwwwwwwww?

    How can a pre-season #5 team “give” only 13 points against a pre-season #88?

Don’t matter to me because on 8/27/08 I will be in Harrah’s with some $$$ to place on UH.

  73. Stephen Tsai:

Yes, Liz, you saw the Full Monty for the plot.

  74. Jason:

So the story behind our graduation song goes like this — it was supposed to be Josh Groban’s You Raise Me Up. Then one day, a friend of mine contacts me on AIM. She knows I like listening to local/Hawaiian music, so she asked me what was the name of a certain song, and she gave me a line or two of the lyrics. I said, “That’s Good Times Together by C&K.” Then a few weeks before graduation, I found out that was our song.

  75. Stephen Tsai:

On a topic related to A-House’s topic, why the heck did the casino give additional markers to Sir Charles when he already owed six figures?

  76. Stephen Tsai:

You’re a man of influence, Jason.

  77. Stephen Tsai:

Of course, if she only heard Jason say “Good Times,” then his class would have sung:

    Good Times.
Any time you meet a payment.
    Good Times.
Any time you need a friend.
    Good Times.
Any time you’re out from under.

Not getting hastled, not getting hustled.
    Keepin’ your head above water,
Making a wave when you can.

    Temporary lay offs.
    Good Times.
    Easy credit rip offs.
    Good Times.
    Scratchin’ and surviving.
    Good Times.
    Hangin in a chow line
    Good Times.
Ain’t we lucky we got ‘em
    Good Times.

  78. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc:

Great!!! Will be there no matter what unless another SUV broadsides the car at 35+ mph.

Although I’d watched games since young kid days, it wasn’t until digital camera techniques came along about a decade ago that the game became somewhat more clear. Up to then, it was just 21 guys jumping all over each other trying to stop or help the 22nd guy throw or run with the football.

However, the announcers and the analysts all assume that everyone who’s watching the game knows what a “strong safety” or a “cornerback” or a “shovel pass” is.

For example, I had no idea that there were two very different ways for the center to get the ball to the quarterback until this past season. Once I learned that, I looked at a couple of UH games we’d recorded earlier and could clearly see the difference between its initial move and the one used by professional teams.

What I still don’t understand is why the intended receiver cannot be tackled before the ball gets to him when it seems like it’s open season on the passer. .

Again, mahalo to Coach Heather McMackin. Maybe I’ll learn the answer to that one in the workshop. When will the date/time/location/cost be announced.

  79. A-House:

    mctruck:

Your #304 post - UH charter a plane for all away games.

Like that very much — extra seats can be sold to anyone who wants to pay fair price to/from each game. Contract with a travel agency to put the plane/hotel package so fans can stay at the same hotel as the team. Can even “temp” hire Aloha flight attendents.

We did that for the 1992 Holiday Bowl when Didi Ahyou put us on the same plane as the UH Band.

  80. bonar:

The line reflects how money’s being played. I’m sure the line will fluctuate a great deal before the game is played. If you’re a Florida fan, put your money down now!

  81. Pomai:

A-House it isn’t going to be a blow-out but we will win we will romp in da swamp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  82. Jason:

That’s a rule, WassupDoc. It’s called pass interference. If they didn’t allow that, then why bother having receivers run routes at all — the defender would just knock the receiver down from the start. There would be no passing game in existence. Instead, the rules allow for contact in the first five yards from the line of scrimmage, then no contact after that. If a defender contacts a receiver while the ball is in the air, that’s defensive pass interference. Similarly, if a receiver contacts a defender, that’s offensive pass interference.

Note: An official can determine that such contact was “incidental,” e.g., the defender and the receivers’ feet tangled together while running. Another exception is if the defender has position on the ball, and accidentally makes contact. The idea behind pass interference is to prevent malicious contact that would hinder one party from being able to make the reception or interception.

  83. Bulla:

they played music at graduation? where was i?

  84. Stephen Tsai:

Bonar is correct. The line has to do with what will create an equal number of bets on both sides.

If anybody is in the Salt Lake City area — in Utah, not near Moanalua High School — in late July, stop by the WAC Football Preview.
    It runs July 22-24.
All of the WAC coaches and top players will be there.

  89. Jason:

We definitely need a picture of prideperiod. Then when anybody complains about off-topic posting, we just show them that picture. :-)

  90. Stephen Tsai:

    A-House:
The benefit of a charter is convenience and comfort.
With Aloha charters last year, there was an empty seat between the players.
That’s why the Sugar Bowl charters were a miserable experience. They packed the planes with so many different folks. Ryan Grice-Mullins said the players didn’t know a lot of the people on board.
The main problem with the charters now is there are no available planes in Hawaii. So a plane has to fly over empty to Hawaii to get the team. Of course, you can charge people to fly on that portion, but that’s a pretty select pool.

  91. Jason:

chawan_cut: I think I’m going to go tonight. I’ve never been able to go to every game in a baseball series, cause I never can make those Sunday games. I’ll be sure to bring my glove. :-)

Stephen: So for the past few weeks at UH, the Gideons have been passing out free pocket New Testament Bibles. I struck a conversation with one of them; when he asked me where I congregate, I told him Salt Lake. Had to explain that it was the one by HNL Airport, not the one in Utah. :-D

From the outside, it would appear that the Warriors have lost their momentum as the sun sets on the greatest run in program history. But new coach Greg McMackin seemed to stick his finger in the enthusiasm leak during spring. Count on defiance and an “us-against-the-haters” mentality fueling Hawaii in 2008.

Chawan-cut & Jason: We’ll be at all three baseball games. Drop by to say hello if you’re in the neighborhood - third base line orange nosebleed seats about four rows up from the concourse.

Jason - mahalo for the explanation with respect to the receiver. Why then is it okay to go after the passer? Who, if anyone, protects the receiver - is that what the offensive line does or is their only task to stop the defense from getting to the passer?

Oh, oh - look at the time - have a 1 pm meeting in town. Look forward to a solid weekend of sports and a major community service project on Sunday afternoon. Hope to see some of you at Murakami Stadium.

  111. chawan_cut:

dang dial up. sorry for the double post.

  112. Stephen Tsai:

See, if DPK went to Roosevelt, he’d know the difference between ninth and “tent.”

  113. Stephen Tsai:

    Gigi:
It’s like the Who’s Who books.
You know, plop down $90, and all of a sudden you’re a “distinguished alumnus.”
The best thing, though, is it contains phone numbers, so I can use it as a resource to contact my fellow big-headed grads.

  114. NYUH:

    Kazz,

I agree. This is not 2005 and the US football community doesn’t get the McMagic yet.

  115. LizKauai [Believer]:

    gigi- _moi_ - social butterfly???
    bwahahaha. Only for Tsai-ko stuff.
besides, I only went to 3 classes at KCC - two photography darkroom classes and vocal music last fall.
    non-credit.

  116. oldie:

    LizKauai,

oldie - we are not off topic… ST started this…

    I guess that’s called the Tsai-exception.

  117. NYUH:

Oh, and I don’t mean McCain.

    2. Getting defensive: The offense started learning this spring, but the defense seems to be figuring stuff out on its own — it should rank among the best in the WAC again, even with the departure of six starters. McMackin believes the front seven will be as good as any in the conference, led by linebackers Solomon Elimimian and Adam Leonard and end David Veikune. While there are three new starters on the line, they combined for 11.5 tackles for a loss last year and played extensively.

  118. NYUH:

I think this is one a major keys to season…

    3. No worries with the feet: Both first-team WAC kicker Dan Kelly and punter Tim Grasso are back. Kelly wasn’t always consistent a year ago but he performed well under pressure, while Grasso likely will need to improve on his 39.7 yard-per-boot average with the offense scoring fewer points.

  119. gigi-hawaii ©:

I have attended almost all of my Roosevelt High class reunions. But I probably won’t attend UH’s reunions. Never belonged to a sorority or any UH clubs when I was a student, so there are no bonds to tie me to the school. Sad, ya?

Lookit yer email. Tanks. BTW, They are also going to make the monk seal the official state mammal. That would be a set back for the good house keeping seal. One makes wine, the other has a spotless house.

  122. NYUH:

Going back to my 2005 reference. We had a redshirt freshman vs. a junior college transfer competing to lead a QB-centric offense.

    Fall questions
    1. Life after Colt: This should have been senior Tyler Graunke’s job to lose, but he had some off-field issues and that gave athletic junior Inoke Funaki an opportunity to top the depth chart this spring and he took advantage, evening the race by the end of the session. Funaki, particularly, was far better in the spring game running a system that put the quarterback under center half the time as opposed to the pure, run-and-shoot shotgun. And the plot here could thicken when junior college transfers Greg Alexander and Brent Rausch report in the fall.

  123. NYUH:

    LizKauai,

I know but its too late. I have gator friends (well, my daughter has a friend who….) and they are quite aware of the Hawaii danger. Although that Miami game is looming for them.

  124. homey ®:

Pomai - I would meet any woman in a dark alley.

Congrats to RK. Hope he and Lafaele get that tryout with the Raiders.

Gosh, Lingle goes out of town and Aiona starts signing all kinds of things.

  125. Jason:

WassupDoc: In passing situations, the offensive line protects the quarterback from defenders. Quarterback is fair game because he has the ball in his hands; defense’s job is to stop the player with the ball in his hands.

O-linemen aren’t allowed to go down the field when the quarterback is passing, since are not “eligible receivers.” As such, receivers don’t have protection by players per se, but they are protected by the rules.

  126. NYUH:

In case Tyler or Inoke feels like there is not much to do after Colt’s success…

    Do you believe in McMagic?

    3. Where was this schedule last year?: Last year — with justification — Hawaii’s schedule was widely mocked and cited as the primary reason the Warriors went undefeated in the regular season. Well, if they played Florida, Oregon State, Washington State and Cincinnati — as well as Fresno State and Boise State on the road — then an undefeated mark would have earned them a No. 1 ranking. This is a brutal schedule by any measure and a hard way for a new coach to say hello to a nervous fanbase.

  127. d1shima [sez:]:

    Stephen,

Okay, heeeeeee’res Johnny! (actually Joan sitting in for Johnny) But it’s still the Beach Boys…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGRSpVl8wss

  128. NYUH:

Maybe UH should buy one of Aloha’s planes. Are they going to make any money going to Florida?

For example, Donovan said the Warriors paid $85,000 to charter to San Jose, Calif. for last year’s game with the Spartans and $125,000 to Idaho for the game with the Vandals, but have been quoted a $319,000 fare for Fresno State this year.

  129. Stephen Tsai:

    Aloha doesn’t own any planes.
    It leased them.

  130. Stephen Tsai:

Hawaiian owns about a third of its planes, but all of its available ones are in use.

  131. d1shima [sez:]:

    NYUH,

    Thanks for the posts.

In their analysis Maisel and Schlabach totally overlook Hawaii. :-(

  132. Stephen Tsai:

I think the Warrior should be the state mammal.

  133. d1shima [sez:]:

Many folks keep going back to the idea of UH getting their own plane. IDK if that’s such a good idea; people who have made careers out of flying them seem to really be struggling nowadays.

  134. d1shima [sez:]:

Best of luck to Ryan Keomaka. Now’s a good time to be playing in Billings! Brrrr…
Hope for good things for him and Lafaele with The Ray-dahs!

  135. Stephen Tsai:

I think UH needs its own hotel. It would be great hands-on experience for the otherwise excellent School of Travel Industry Management.

  136. homey ®:

d1shima - Not only that but the pilots they hire may fly them past Florida and end up in Cuba.

  137. bighilofan2:

    NYUH

I believe in Tyler and Inoke, yes I do. But the starter will EARN the job. Develop the sneaky mind, the look aways, the quicker feet, the speedier forearm relesaes, yada yada. day gotta step it up.
its like da Tsaiko calendar. take a lesson from kekoa. he’ll wear his bes puka bibidees, da one wit da frilly edge. wen you get called out, you gotta step it up. coyote ugly. u no dat!

So what else is good about a D1 scholie besides full tuition?

Got an e-mail from #2 son’s new coach:

The team has chosen to wear white cleats with red highlights. If you do not order Nike Cleats from XXX XXXXXX, then make sure when you purchase your own that they are white with Red

    In a follow-up e-mail to clarify:

We will provide all of your protective gear, helmets, shoulder pads,
    girdles, soft pads etc…

Some extra gear you may need to get such as special braces or visors etc..

You will need to get your own shoes and a team polo for game day, as well as any undergarmets you desire in terms of body armor type clothing, and gloves.

It’s pay to play…all the way!
Start putting your kids on a rack now and S-T-R-E-T-C-H!!!

  141. homey ®:

I’d gladly pay for incidental gear for a full tuition scholie. :D

  142. las vegas:

back in da day, “undergarments” during football games was one bibidee and a cut off shirt.

also you could unscrew and replace your cleats if they got worn

  143. las vegas:

hey! the blog is back up to speed, for now at least.

  144. las vegas:

wow!, i just posted twice in a row!

  145. las vegas:

    can this be happening?
    maybe 4 in a row?

  146. las vegas:

i would hate to just post a #5

  147. las vegas:

must be the kim chee fried rice, chop chae, bi bim kook soo, and mandoo kook soo I had for lunch

    Believe me, so would we!
    He’s playing D3.

  149. las vegas:

things you can do to pass the time

    .
Try to not think about polar bears

    .
(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes) This is especially hard, because by trying too much, you remember what you were trying to avoid thinking of. If you try too little, you end up thinking about polar bears anyway.

  150. las vegas:

things you can do to pass the time

    .
    Scratch yourself

    .
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes) Go ahead, scratch yourself now. Even if nothing itches, go ahead. Doesn’t that feel pretty good?

  151. las vegas:

things you can do to pass the time

    .
    Try to swallow your tongue

    .
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes) There’s not much to say about this one. It is possible.

  152. d1shima(tilted):

    Oops,
    Gomen, las vegas-san

  153. las vegas:

    things you can….you know

    .
Stare at the back of someone’s head until they turn around

    .
(Amusement Potential: 2-5 minutes) This works on the “I have the feeling I’m being watched” principle. Conduct an experiment–does this really work?

  154. las vegas:

Pick up a dog so it can see things from your point of view

    .
(Amusement Potential: 3-5 minutes) Think about it: your dog has only seen the house from a viewpoint from 6″ to 2′ high (15 to 60 cm for all you metric fans). It’s never seen the tops of counters, what you keep on your desk, the tops of shelves, etc. Try looking at things from its point of view, too.

  155. las vegas:

    this is the best one

    .
Pour water in hand, make sneeze noise, throw water on back of person’s neck:
(Amusement Potential: 5-15 minutes) Always a good gag. For an even bigger reaction out of the person, act like you’re not sorry at all for what they think you did. Comment instead on how big that sneeze was or about how there was a lot of mucus in that one.

  156. bighilofan2:

anybody actually get real tix yet from UH for Florida game?

    how about the coaches, players?

  157. homey ®:

My dog can almost see things from my point of view.

  158. LizKauai [Believer]:

  162. homey ®:

XLiz - BTW, did you think of polar bears? I did…especially after seeing “The Golden Compass”.

  163. homey ®:

I wonder whose idea it was when sitting in an arena watching a basketball game and thinking, “They should play football on that court.”

  164. djmitcho:

finally, some warm sunny weather here in Washington

  165. djmitcho:

    homey,
I don’t care who thought of it, I’m just glad they did. We got a good af2 team here in Spokane. In fact attendence at our games are bigger than some Arena teams

  166. homey ®:

Hey djmitcho! speaking of Washington and warm weather, daughter is coming back in June. You planning any vacation time here this year?

  167. las vegas:

ugly putdowns to use when you go home tonight

You’re so ugly, when you walk into the bank they turn off the cameras.
You’re so ugly, you went to a haunted house and came out with an application.
If ugliness was a crime, you’d get the electric chair.
You’re so ugly, when you were born they put tinted windows on your incubator.
You’re so ugly, you have to sneak up on your mirror.
You’re so ugly, your doctor is a vet.
You’re so ugly, you have to Trick or Treat by phone.

  168. BigWave96744:

    Jason,
First you said when you hear a certain Karaoke song you think of Gigi (nothing aginst you Gigi)…

Now you want to wear her Muumuu (nothing against your muumuu’s Gigi)????

What’s going on at Keller Hall?
See, I told you that you should have majored in ICS instead of Math…

  169. djmitcho:

    homey,
Unfortunately no. I was gonna try and come back in July for a cousin’s grad party, but tickets were too much $$$. .

  170. homey ®:

las vegas - my wife already told me those…

  171. homey ®:

djmitcho - Yep, prices are getting ridiculous. I’m thinking of buying my daughter a house up there instead of flying back and forth.

And the thing about Spokane is that there are no direct flights to Honolulu!!! ARRRGHHHH! …and vice versa! Well that’s what my daughter tells me. I’m just the banker.

  172. d1shima(tilted):

    bhf2,
Yeah. I think both sides get real players and coaches.

    heheheheh

  173. las vegas:

    Homey,
    cuppla questions,

does the world smell different to short people?

wouldn’t you someday like to sneak on a E.K.Fernadez ride?
y’know the ones with the sign that says “You Must Be This Tall To Ride”

  174. homey ®:

lv - sometimes and only for certain rides. At least Disneyland caters to me.

  175. Kazz:

Ugh, just came back from lunch and may I recommend Tae’s Teppanyaki.

If you just enter Kalakaua, take a right onto Makaloa St. then take your first left and turn into the parking lot.

    383-2280 for take outs.

    Ono steak plates!

  176. chawan_cut:

    bigwave…
my thoughts exactly. look how us ics majors ended up. just fine!

  177. homey ®:

Kazz - is it a big place to accommodate, oh say, football conversation?

  178. Jason:

BigWave96744: That’s what happens when homey mentors me instead of Garret. And, um, what degree does homey have? ‘Nuff said. :-)

  179. djmitcho:

    homey,
yeah, no direct flights. most times you at least gotta go through Seattle.

  180. Jason:

Aha, chawan_cut is an ICS guy as well. Figures. Never did take him for a smart guy. If he had any brain matter at all, he’s major in math. And if he were really smart, we’d be mentioning chawan_cut and Garret in the same breath.

  181. las vegas:

    Homey,
Knott’s Berry Farm has Snoopy Land, as long as an adult holds your hand no issues with height

  182. d1shima(tilted):

  184. las vegas:

    ICS=Irritated Colonoscopy Survivors?

    possibilities are endless

  185. homey ®:

lv - funny you mentioned KBF. Me and the kids rode the same rides! Nice bonding experience.

  186. chawan_cut:

    Jason,
never said i was smart…. well, in some ways i’m smart, but not the good kine. maybe that’s why i’m so lame. maybe thats a side effect?

i shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as garret….

  187. homey ®:

Jason - Now that was funny! chawan? Are you going to take that? C’mon say something!

  188. homey ®:

    oops, you just did…

  189. djmitcho:

    d1,
That means I’ll probably see him play at least once or twice.

  190. chawan_cut:

    someone’s slow…. heh.

  191. Jason:

    chawan_cut and homey… Need I say more? :-)

    But Garret >> everyone.

  192. las vegas:

    chawan_cut,
    Why no chawan cut?
i had one until my head grew too big for da saimen bowl.
afta that it was the barber shop next to Himuro store across from Leonards.

  193. homey ®:

chawan - that someone is called blog tekkies. Did you see the titles they hold at the ‘Tizer?

Online Operations Manager/Webmaster - Scott Morifuji
    Online Supervisor - John Garcia
    Online Supervisor - Brian Takemura
    Programmer - Tyson Oshiro
Online Content Producer - John Miyakado
Online Content Producer - Scott Nishi

Where does Andreas Arvman fit into all this?

  194. MeiLing:

Dang! I’m going to miss the clinic & I could use it.

Congrats to the grads, Timo & A.J.!!!

  195. homey ®:

Wow chawan, are you going to take that? I think Jason needs a challenge. I propose a challenge that is non-major related. Like something in ocean sports or field sports or indoor sports or ballroom dancing or karaoke.

Hey, what about golf! gigi can compete too!

  196. las vegas:

    Homey,
    i got opposite problem.
about 12 years ago after the LA sumo exhibition we took the boys to Magic Mountain.
one of the kids was too thick for “Superman the ride” and could not fasten the chest harness.
the teenage attendant told him to “just hold on” luckily the kid was smart enough to get off.

  197. d1shima(tilted):

    dj,

    Yep.
Punish da Pirates! (sorry, I’m new @ this)

speaking of da LG, his son will be returning for his 2nd season there.

  199. gigi-hawaii ©:

*sigh* Hubby doesn’t want to practice golf on week nights — just on Sundays. We’ll never get good enough to compete at the rate we are going.

  200. Jason:

gigi: Just go on your own! You’re a big girl, no need hubby to hold your hand all the time. ;-)

homey: If it’s shots, I lose.

  201. homey ®:

Speaking of the LG. Did anyone see this oldie from Cat Toth. I know A-Joe linked it before.

  202. homey ®:

lv - Was that for real? That’s what the attendant said! What a dummy!

  203. las vegas:

    gigi,
just go to the range in the afternoon.
walk into the clubhouse and flash a little leg.
i’m sure you’ll catch the attention of one of the old men who would be more than happy to teach you.

  204. homey ®:

gigi - Jason is pau school, take him with you.

  205. djmitcho:

    d1,

I’ve heard that LG’s son isn’t coming back to spokane next year.

  206. las vegas:

    H,
    true
btw “superman the ride” is scary, may have let loose a few drops during some of the inverted parts.

  207. gigi-hawaii ©:

I am too scared to go out alone at night. Anything could happen to me with my luck.

I thought nights would be better because it would be cooler than golfing during the day.

  208. A-House:

    Charter flights for UH football:

Maybe something can be worked out with Omni Airlines who can bring in returning residents/others from Vegas or other locales using Pleasant Holidays tours, turn around and take team to wherever, then do charters, come back for team to fly home, and take a Vacations charter flight to Vegas or Pleasant Holidays tour to another city.

All it takes is some creative minds to figure out a schedule, contacting travel agents in the surrounding area to take people somewhere and back during the “down time” before bringing team home.

What we truly need is a person who will donate XXX$$$ to UHAD for the sole purpose of hiring charter flights.

Maybe WAC can work out a schedule, whenever possible, where other sports( volleyball, basketball, etc), can be played at the same city where football will be played.

This will help all members as travel costs continue to skyrocket.

  209. Jason:

Hmm, where can we find a good security guard to protect gigi…

  210. gigi-hawaii ©:

BTW, does anyone know the address for the golf courses in Pearl City and in Kaneohe? How do you find them in map quest?

The only course we know how to get to is Ala Wai, but kinda crowded, ya?

  211. gigi-hawaii ©:

speak of the devil, hubby just called. We are going to golf in Waikele cause he knows where the course is located.

  212. Maverick:

With the travel blues inevitable for our Warriors and us, why not strike a deal with Southwest air to get here and back.
They hedged into the gas prices long ago, and still pay the cheapest fuel.

I’m sure they can cut a deal with Hawaii.

  213. homey ®:

gigi - You can go in the morning or evening.

  214. homey ®:

gigi - I would hope you spend additional time at the driving range before you explore golf on the course. I would also get some work in at the practice putting and chipping greens.

Then when you feel you are ready for the course I would go with someone who is familiar with the rules and etiquette of the game.

  215. Stephen Tsai:

  217. homey ®:

Just for the sake of conversation, say those mucka-muckas make an average of $70k a year. That’s almost 1/2 a million a year to support this online community. Wowza!

  218. Kazz:

    Homey,

Tae’s Teppanyaki is kinda small to accomodate a sit in cattle call. It’s more like a get your food and go kinda place.

  219. Rich2176:

  227. Kekoa:

Gigi ~ DANGER WILL ROBBINS!…Do not even think of going out on a golf course just yet! You and hubby need to work on your swing and making solid contact from a DRIVING RANGE. The course is not a place to “practice.”

You will not only embarrass yourselves, but you will get scolded by the course Marshall for slowing play, because other golfers will complain.

This game requires lots of attention to detail in crafting a good basic swing in order to control the ball. Like ANY round ball game, the key is you controlling the ball and not vice-versa. You must build that foundation first, and that takes a lot of practice.

The tournament you are playing in is going to be for fun. They will overlook a lot of the “normal” etiquette rules of golf because they know that there will be some unskilled players on the course. In the real world of golf, ahhh…no! Course Marshalls are very unforgiving.

Stick to the range until game day on Kauai, and then follow the lead of your experienced golf partner.

  228. wafan:

    bhf2 . . .
