Gray matters

Defensive back Joey Iosefa, running back Jon Lister and defensive lineman Marcus Malepeai are grayshirts who are enrolled at UH-Manoa as part-time students this semester. They join the Warriors in January.
Jordan Loeffler, an offensive lineman, is a part-time student at UH-Hilo. He also will come aboard in January.
Defensive end Veni Manu is enrolled at a school on O‘ahu. He should be joining the team in January.
But T.J. Alofipo will need to attend a junior college.

Too bad about T.J. But I'm excited to see how these gray shirts pan out come January. Hopefully they've been working out and building muscles.

Happy Aloha Friday, Tsaikos. Talk about "ALOHA," your tweet, ST, almost made me fall off my chair laughing. Couldn't agree more about the DMV line where the aloha spirit dies.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:37 am
can we bring in any other mid year JC guys besides Sapolu and Cravens?
November 6th, 2009 at 11:44 am
To answer DPK's question on the last post: Moanalua-ʻAiea is the first game at Aloha Stadium, they play at 4:30. Kahuku-Leilehua follows at 7:30. Both games are on OC16; the latter will be on 1420 AM as well.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:51 am
That is good news .
Hopefully tj gets it.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Go Warriors. Let's have an upset this weekend.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:54 am
Good afternoon Tsaikos. ST, hope you passed your DMV licensing

Do grayshirts (part-time students) ever get placed in on-campus housing? Or are they on their own for a place to live?
November 6th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
I don't have problems when I go to DMV! Must be your personality ST.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
It was my son, and he was doomed from the start, when he hit the curb to maneuver past a parked car.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
d1: Gray shirts are on their own all the way: food, housing, tuition.
A little birdie told me that a certain player whose initials are A.M. might have received a grayshirt offer.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
On the bright side, it'll be at least a few more months before you need to buy him a car....
November 6th, 2009 at 12:20 pm

November 6th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
Pono....for real? Even this girl knows who AM is....thinking about some Mules!
November 6th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
A.M. = Andrew Manely? I thought he got a full offer?
November 6th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
d1
loved the video
reminded me when azngamer808 was playing for Iolani Varsity soccer,
Kamehameha parents were talking all kinds of smack and an Iolani
player gestured that the score was 3 for us (Iolani) - ZERO for your team
November 6th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
AM = Andrew Manley?
November 6th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
What about Corey Nielsen's Gahr HS teammate WR Deondre Powell? Last I heard he was also attending a JC?
According to the list on sportshawaii.com, looks like we are also looking at another Gahr WR for 2010.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
Any current verbals for 2010 that are potentials for grayshirt status?
November 6th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
ST:
Thanks for update on "new" recruits.
Keeping fingers crossed for TJ to do well at JC and be ready to contribute when he returns to Hawaii.
BTW, passed your house at 5:32am and all the lights were on!!
November 6th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Looks like things are heating up for 2010! that's just "chummy".
I hope that the Hawaii student athletes are reading/hearing all the SMACK
November 6th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
So what's the Deal'io with Lily?
Attending UH ?
Is she back here in the islands?
November 6th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
Happy Aloha Friday!
Should be interesting to see what it looks like this spring. I don't know anything about these GS guys.
Hope Laupepa gets the medical hardship.
GO WARRIORS!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 1:06 pm
That photo of her was a carrot dangler above the bunny hole.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Apparently the media board at HPD is where the Warrior support goes to die.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
WOW, Lily looks great!!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
dANG!!!!!!! I hit the shift button and my post gets sent - that's just wrong!!
continue from above: about how bad Hawaii is and the Hawaii pride kicks in and those who have committed or leaning to the mainland say, "hey, that's just bullshit - no one puts Hawaii down and now I change committments to the Warriors."
Just dreaming - nothing wrong with that!
It reminded me of my trip home after completing OCS and Jump School - the Hawaii pride was so strong that I stood nearly at attention while waiting for planes at Atlanta and Los Angeles. Little children would approach me and ask "why are you standing so straight?" and my response was because I am an officer and from Hawaii. This is what I carried during basic training, advanced individual training, and at Fort Benning - Hawaiian pride!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
kazz, you got my message. no of defensive turnovers by both navy and wisconsin created by uh defense. my entry is 12.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
ST,
Spak you at softball tonight or tomorrow morning?
November 6th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
What a way to start a page. That's great news about some terrific additions to the team. Stock up on a BIG D-tackle, couple of fast rush D-ends, a few 6'4" and plus sized, quick, aggressive o-line folks and we're good to go next year!
Oh, BTW, I'm thinking it'll be a battle royal on Saturday. Hopefully we'll wind up on top (with referee Wally Tatsumi raising the winnah's hand - Warriors!).
Let's see if peeps old enough to know what I just said.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
Whitey,
My entry is UH creates a total of 5 defensive turnovers combined against Navy and Wisconsin.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
A House, can totally relate to what you stated. At rotc camp, volunteered to be the athletic director for our flight and first question from the squadron captain was, do you know what it entails and what is your experience. Gave him my answers, became the AD for 3 sports, softball, volleyball, and bb. Had guys from UH in my flight and told them our first priority is to win the vb, so stacked the team with UH students and 2 or 3 more taller players. Total of 20 teams in competition and we win the vb title. Like you said, Hawaiian pride and knowledge goes a long way.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
buffo, absolutely the best referee in all sports. I LUV THE BLINDMAN!!! He should be nominated for the Hawaii Hall of Fame or the WWE Hall of Fame. A truly one of a kind character.

November 6th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
whitey:
I was a coward so I chose USAF ROTC over Army at UH because I did not want to carry and clean the M-1. Did my 2 years and then quit.

Congrats to ILH Football Champions Kamehameha! Onward to the State Finals.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Whitey ~ During ROTC annual training, I placed the Hawaiian Reserve Officers against the group from Texas. Was supposed to be flag football, but usually ended up being *tackle* at the end.
Needless to say, the local boys always prevailed. For their reward, they got to stay up late and grind all-you-could-eat crab from the local Hawaiian club members.
November 6th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Good job Pono and crew from KS Kapalama. Hele on to the State's!
Nalani, did you know that you and the girls were featured in Sports Illustrated 11/02/09? (full page ad).

November 6th, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Gotta get past the semi-finals first.

November 6th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
aged marsupial
November 6th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
did she get suspended by the school, she got a yellow card for arguing with the referee, not for tackling and punching #7 and 21, and a single yellow card does not suspend a player from future play. Two yellows equal a soft red, or a straight out red card leads to a one game suspension.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Its hard to believe she stayed in after that hair pull. She looks like she could have a a great future in MMA if the soccer thing doesn't work out. And the look in her eyes... yikes!
November 6th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
kahuku in a game of return of favor.
The. Sack is on tonight. The kicker earns a scholle to manoa .
November 6th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Chawan,
Hmmmm how about a medium-sized megaphone bigger than the mini one but smaller than the cheerleader sized ones?
As for a possible NFA ruling, my "kefe" ruling trumps that!
November 6th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Defense will be the key.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Ralph,
News story says she got yellow card for kicking the ball into an opponent's face (while the opposing player was on the ground about 2 feet from the ball).
November 6th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
kazz,
he did go that route. bigger than the one you had yesterday but smaller than the cheer ones.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:26 pm

November 6th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
re: Elizabeth Lambert. If she has any eligibility left, I would like to see her transfer to Manoa.
Wahines could sure use a goon/enforcer on the squad !
Our girls get beat up; need one goon to pay back.
Remember - Natasha got injured by a bully - no one paid back.
But, I think our coach is "gentlemanly/soft ?", and would not do that.
Fill in your own word for "soft".
November 6th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
yup, she should transfer to Hawaii, we definitely need a center back or middle to enforce the defense. Except for the overt hair pull I've seen the rest of the physical play in club competition on the mainland and these aren't always called, if it were whistled, only a foul, rarely a card.
November 6th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Lets go Bulldogs!
November 6th, 2009 at 5:28 pm

Hi everyone. One last post from the ship.
Just passed the Na Pali coast but the ship has made a 180º turn to return to Nawiliwili for an emergency medevac case. We will not be continuing on around the island.
Time to get ready for dinner and the final shows, and [sniffle] packing. Hope to see you at the tailgate tomorrow!
GO WARRIORS!

I am in an arguement with some folks about a drive in in Kapahulu. Wasn't there a donald duck drive in across the street from Kaimuki High?
November 6th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Jason ~ Your Alma Mater played a good game and displayed great ball control in the last minutes of the game tonite. Congrats to Da Menehune.
I called my daughter in the mainland to tell her the good news. She said, "Well it's about time!" She said they were an embarrassment when she went to school there. She went on to say that her Soccer team suffered thru her senior season...maybe I shouldn't have called...
November 6th, 2009 at 7:34 pm

I was stumped with your #51 until I told Mrs A-House that I cannot put your response to my previous post and then was enlightened - good one!

what is virtual memory, how do i maintain it or increase it. slowing my computer to a crawl.
November 6th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Bess responded to a couple of mistakes he had in games by doing what he always does...put in extra work to make sure that he doesn't make the mistakes again. I remember all the stories about how he worked with the JUGS machine for hours each day...so it is no surprise that he came in on his off day to practice catching punt after punt.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
The Wahines played very well tonight and K5 seem to take a long delay between match 2 and 3.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
Height does matter when it comes to blocking and the Wahines with the additional height up front are truly intimidating.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Now if the Warriors to their basics tomorrow night, victory is highly possible.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Hansen is doing a very good job at rt and if he can block the de to the inside, let estes and the lg pull, they can do some damage on the ground.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:19 pm

night before a game and its all quiet in Hilo town, is Pepeekeo a suburb of Hilo?
will the Warriors greet the fans after the game beyond their circle of family and personal fans, 100% participation in the Alma Mater. Did Slugger get her message to the few who took off for the tunnel while their alma mater played?
November 6th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Regarding #100
Virtual memory is the process where when you are short of ram the computer uses your hard drive as ram. Since the hard drive is slower than ram your computer slows down. Remedy this by installing more ram in your computer.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
thanks olddiver..
November 6th, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Ralph- also clear out temp files and close any unneeded programs working in the background.
November 6th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
ralph,
As ST said, Derek Inouchi wasn't at practice for me to 'scold' him about players not joining their teammates to sing the alma mater. I did let one of the players know personally that I saw him & a couple of his buddies heading for the tunnel while the alma mater was being played. I hope they remember what they are supposed to do. Wonder if the coaches even tell these kids that they should stand & sing the alma mater after the game with the band & the cheer team? Do the Coaches join the team to sing or stand for the alma mater after the game? Leading by example...
Too much kope tonight. Wide awake...
Who won the softball game?
Last year's WVB team received gold Hawaiian bracelets tonight after the game for winning the WAC last year.
Who's going to the San Jose State football game? My sister in SJ wants to hook up with you guys to sit with UH fans.

are you diabetic?
a couple of weeks ago my mother makes this huge pot of shrimp curry.
now, i love curries. i did add half a bottle more to the huge pot just to kick it up a notch.
naturally i pig out on the curry. next morning the blood sugar is waaay low.
thinking nothing of it i have curry for lunch and finish up the pot w/newly added shrimp with the boy during dinner again.
next morning, again the blood sugar is waaaay lower.
coincedence you think? i google and found a few reports that confirm the medicinal qualities of tumeric the main curry spice.
yesterday, made those premade curry cakes into a lamb curry stew. same results. low blood sugar.
go check it out.
November 7th, 2009 at 1:36 am
Al ~ Would you believe Diana woke me up to tell me her blood sugar drop to 35! I made her eat a bowl of ice cream drizzled with homemade guava syrup on top and sprinkled with cookies. Waiting for the numbers to go up.
She wants to attend the t-gate party tomorrow. I have a premeasured shot of the good stuff if it ever comes to that. Remember in your gas chamber exercises at Ft. Ord? We showed you how to administer those atropine seret shots stowed in the mask case.
By switching the blue and red caps on the injection tube and pressing it into your thigh, it produced the desired result instantly. Same idea with the civilian version she was prescribed for emergency.
November 7th, 2009 at 1:46 am
Tom Mui ~ Please come to the t-gate. Leave your car at the cabana, and ride up to the game with me and HoweLee.
We can exchange your ticket for a handicap seat on the mezzanine. I park by the main entrance near the picnic area. Then ride with us back to the cabana after the game for the after action report, coffee, and comfort foods.

A GREAT good morning Tsaiko Nation ! Got my white polo Hawaii shirt ON with my GREEN floral Reebok Aloha shorts as it is TIME to get FIRED UP and see our Warriors to VICTORY !
I know you good folks are READY and Aloha Stadium will be Rocking and Rolling as the "Rainbow Menehune" will be in SPIRIT with each present football player to put this losing streak to an END !
Be there or be square and take no prisoners ! Beautiful morning here in Los Angeles as I get ready to DOMINATE the tennis courts and then off to Magics to except CHALLENGES from the young b-ballers who have been waiting for their chance to GET back at the "Rainbow Legend" as I thoroughly spank them last Monday with my 51 year old game as they have left messages on my cell stating "were waiting for you Legend, we want revenge" !
Pomai: Got your BEAUTIFUL GREEN Reyn Spooner XXL Hawaii Aloha shirt as I pick it up later today from Linda Uyeda who owns and operate "Styles Of Hawaii" which does ALL my aloha wear. I told her this shirt is for an AWESOME gentlemen who needs to state at all times he is of "GQ" status. When I mail off to you with the ceremony dvd if you may be so kind to share my 17 year gala event with fellow Tsaikos who MAY want to view it I will be so appreciative to your efforts. The hour and fifteen minute TRIBUTE is filled with so much ALOHA that I am so PROUD to send it to you as the "GATEKEEPER". Once I have everything package I will let you know it is on it's way to the address you gave me. You are the "VERY BEST" kind sir !
Kekoa: Your reebok green aloha golf shirt arrived Friday morning at the Hawaii address you gave me at 8:01am. I checked my delivery confirmation reciept. Wear it to the game tonight sir as I will be in the spirit of it as you feast the opu and cheer the Warriors on to VICTORY!
Garret: So happy the package came of shirts and sweets for you and your WONDERFUL family. The Hawaii shirts came by Athletic Director Jim Donovan who gave me a BIG box for my kids at the CENTER as many wore them to the ceremony as I put away for Faith and Mika to have their very own. Will talk to you later to get your words eye view on the game as I CONTINUE to spread the wealth of ALOHA with the compassion you kind folks gave me due to HONOR and RESPECT !
Have a WONDERFUL day Tsaiko Nation and "IMUA WARRIORS" !

Utah State isn't very deep and it is interesting that ST's article noted that their top 3 players on defense were hurt in their last game and might miss today's game.

Utah State's head coach points out that UH's offense gives them an advantage in the WAC because teams are using more run-oriented offenses--they faced 3 straight run-oriented offenses before UH (La Tech, Fresno, Nevada). He does point out UH's main weakness on offense so far.

I was looking for the link (heard it on the radio) - SFCC and many CA CC's will not be offering Summer sessions. Classes are already full. It's going to be really tough for students to get their classes and credits for a two year AA. This will impact JC recruiting - and education in general.

I ran into Aaron Kia in the training room several days ago. We had a chat about his quotes from this weeks newspaper article.
It gets interesting when two football letterwinners have a discussion.
We agreed that:
1. You don't step out onto the field with anything less than a 100% effort,
2. You play with teammates that give the same 100 percent,
3. Past and present hasn't changed these percentages
4. I am proud to have been a Warrior Football Player
5. He is proud to be a Warrior Football Player
6. 99 years of Warrior Football players stand behind our 100th year team players, every down, every game
Go Warriors!

The best high school football recruit that I have seen this year is Hauoli Jamora. He proved it last night. Wow! Too bad he verbally committed to BYU. But, I hope he changes his mind. What a pass rusher! UH could use him big time.

Wow! What a site. You have a real knack for making a blog easy on the eyes. Some sites look like train wrecks, but not this one - it's a pleasure to visit. I have been a fan of manga since I was 11 years old. Nice to see a website like this one, it brings back a lot of memories for me. Thanks. I found your site while looking for something else on animenews.com. I don't have time to read it all right now, but I have bookmarked the home page and will come back regularly to see the latest. Please visit my site at http://www.upxy.com and let me know what you think. Have a great weekend!

Global Times has an official image of the production Hyundai Azera- based Kia Cadenza, the replacement for the aged and unlovable Amanti. Not long ago, TTAC’ s sharp- eyed readers had a surprisingly hard time identifying this car’ s interior as a Kia at all. And with a new Schreyer- styled look that’ s light years beyond the Amanti’ s crude E-
